The New York Times bestselling author “brings back her irresistibly humorous, snarky, action packed, violent and outrageously larger than life dragons” (Smexy Books). HE SAYS . . . I, Aidan the Divine, am, well divine. My name was given to me by the Dragon Queen herself! I’m a delight! Cheerful. Charming. And a mighty warrior who is extremely handsome with a very large and well-hidden hoard of … warrior who is extremely handsome with a very large and well-hidden hoard of gold. I am also royal born, despite the fact that most in my family are horrendous beings that don’t deserve to live. And yet, Branwen the Awful—a low-born, no less—either tells me to shut up or, worse, ignores me completely.
SHE SAYS . . .
I’ll admit, I ignore Aidan the Divine because it annoys him. A lot. But, we have so much to do right now, I can’t worry about why he keeps looking at me like he’s thinking about kissing me. We have our nations to save and no time for such bloody foolishness . . . no matter how good Aidan looks or how long his spiked tail is. Because before this war destroys everything we love, we’ll have to face our enemies together. But if we make it out alive, who knows what the future will hold . . .

I love these books on the dragons by GA Aiken. She makes them so funny and such characters. The whimsy, snark, and humor keep me laughing while the stories are really interesting and keep me reading. These are fun books to read, especially this one, and I know I’ll be reading it again.
Love the whole series
Aidan the Divine is helping Branwen the Awful with the war against the zealots. Aidan is royalty, he is used to admiration and to have people revel in his good looks. Brawnen is a low born and a fighter. She is gruff and tells it as it is. She doesn’t know what to do with Aidan but he seems determined to follow her around and when one night ends up with them sleeping together, she makes sure he knows it is what it is, after all they have a war to win. What happens though when the war is over?
One of my favorite authors and she always brings humor, chemistry, and a unique story to each of her books. This was fantastic, had a couple of my favorite characters make appearances and I loved Branwen, she is just awful but in a good way. Excellent read.
The war against the Chramnesind zealots has gone on for years. Key players are missing and it’s time to make one last stand or die. Branwen the Awful is tasked with going with Keita the Viper to locate her missing friend. While all the army amass to take make a last stand against the zealots.
I have liked Branwen the Awful since she was introduced. She is always kicking ass and keeping everyone in line. Unless she is with Izzy then she turns into a giggling teenager who keeps getting in trouble. Aiden the Divine is really the best person for her. She needs someone who can smooth talk and calm down a group, like her father Bram. Aiden is great at that but he is also a deadly Mì-runach warrior. I love how Brannie freaked out at the end and failed at dealing with her feelings. It was a nice change to see it be the female, not the male doing that.
The war against the zealots finally ends but the series is left open for another book. I hope we do get either more books for this series or a side series in the same world. Especially since I want to see what Brigida the Most Foul is up to.
Also, still not a fan of Keita the Viper.
I have waited so long for Branwen’s book and I absolutely adored it!!! By herself, Branwen is great. She is hilarious and totally over the top at times, but then you pair her up with Izzy and crap hits the fans in the most awesome way! The hilarity in the story is totally over the top and so typical of this author. And the story itself really kept me interested.
One thing that I can say about the author, she brings on some freaking amazing characters, steam between them, and a freaking awesome story that totally keeps me engaged in the book. What she does with each plot is great. They always bring something new and interesting that i think will keep readers wanting more.
Amazing!
This is another book from my blogger shame pile… another one that got caught up in my moving transition between New Orleans and Tucson. But I’m kinda glad that I waited on it now because it really helped lighten my mood this week while I’ve been trying to read and not die of the plague (thanks to all those germ harbingers of doom that you pick up on an airplane).
It seems like its been a long time since I’ve read a Dragon Kin book. I had no problem remembering our heroine, Branwen the Awful, but I couldn’t seem to place our hero, Aidan the Divine. That didn’t really matter in the long run as Aidan is the typical egotistical dragon, he thinks he’s the GOAT (greatest of all time) and its up to our heroine to bring him back down to earth. I like it when the pretty boy and/or intelligent dragons have been paired with the Cadwaladr females, who are big tough fighting machines. Branwen definitely takes after her mother, Ghleanna, and is a renowned warrior known in all the realms. I like the mix of ridiculous and relatable and felt like Branwen hit both of those marks. She and Aiden definitely kept me entertained.
There was less focus on the romance in this installment and more focus on the continuing story arc, i.e. the dragons battling the evil god Chramnesind and his Zealot followers. I do not recommend reading this series out of order as the storyline is advanced with each installment. As with previous stories, we aren’t always following our main characters, but will have diversions to follow Annwyl the Bloody, Keita the Viper, Dagmar the Beast, and the abominations, Talan, Talwyn and Unvarr.
The story arc does seem to conclude with this installment, so I hope this is not the end of the series. I really enjoy all the banter and sass in these books, and I absolutely love all the over-the-top dragons.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher.
loved IT
As usual the author dazzles us with her fabulous writing skills in this page-turner. I loved returning to her world of dragons and all the characters I simply adore.
This story is mainly about Branwen the Awful and Aiden the Devine. But all the characters we have come to know and love have their moments in the epic battle against the zealot followers of the eyeless God.
I love love loved this book and highly recommend all the books in the Dragon Kin series, as well as all the books G.A. Aiken writes under the name Shelly Laurenston. You won’t be disappointed.
This series needs to be read in order.
Oh the joy of returning to the Dragon Kin series. I love these hilarious and bloodthirsty dragons and characters along with their fierce loyalty and unconditional love. The books tend to be over the top and ruthless, but so much fun!
It took me a moment to get on the same page. Several years have passed from Feel the Burn to Bring the Heat and I had to remember what was happening. The big war that the series has been building up to is now going to go down. The Zealots have made their move.
The romance between Brannie and Aiden doesn’t start right away. Ya, their is something their, but they don’t see it until later and then things heat up quickly.
The banter is phenomenal; between all the characters. It’s one thing that I have come to love and enjoy about this series is that it’s present throughout the books. I also have come to love how Aiken writes strong and independent heroines who are also quite ruthless.
I was surprised to get a lot of Keita. Well not surprised that she shows up like other previous characters, but that she plays a big part in this book. Keita and Briannie are cousins. It was fun and made me laugh watching these two fight with each other.
Bring the Heat brings us romance, the war, and it’s politics. This novel defiantly lived up to my expectations.
Rated: 4 Stars
I can always count on a fun and interesting book from G.A. Aiken/Shelley Laurenston. This is book 9 in the Dragon Kin series. It features Aiden and Branwen and, while light on romance, there’s lots of Aiken’s signature fun, laughter, and zaniness. Other characters in the series show up, of course, and sometimes take over the story a bit but it just adds to the overall fun of this book.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher, Kensington, via NetGalley
4.5 stars– BRING THE HEAT is the ninth full-length installment in G.A.Aiken’s adult DRAGON KIN fantasy romance series focusing on a group of Southland dragon shifters and their mates. This is Aidan the Divine, and Branwen, the Awful’s story line. BRING THE HEAT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order for history, cohesion and character back stories. There is an ongoing threat against Queen Annwyl and the ‘abominations’-the powerful offspring of the dragon and human matings.
Told from several third person points of view including Aidan and Branwen BRING THE HEAT focuses on the upcoming war threatening Queen Annwyl the Bloody, and the children known as the ‘abominations’. A rather larger group of dragon-haters known as the Zealots has targeted the human Queen in an attempt to destroy that which they fear-the unknown. When several dragons, and the Queen go missing from the most recent battle, Branwen the Awful is charged with protecting her cousin and royal offspring, Keita the Viper, as she prepares to do battle with a potential threat of a different kind. Enter Aidan the Divine, a dragon warrior and member of the Queen’s most terrifying army known as the Mi-runach who is tasked with escorting Branwen and Keita on a journey towards another possible war. What ensues is the building relationship between Branwen and Aidan, and the inevitable battle between the dragons, the gods, the witches and the demons.
BRING THE HEAT is a story line that follows several converging paths with a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples and characters, as well as their growing families of gifted offspring. Talwyn, Talan and Rhiannwen, otherwise known as the ‘abominations’ continue to slowly come into their powers but it is Gwenvael and Dagmar’s hatchlings that may be a bigger surprise going towards the future. With the introduction of more extended kin, cousins and family, as well as the growing number of ‘hybrid’ offspring, I suspect many more story lines focusing on the Dragon Kin and threats to their less than idyllic family dynamics.
G.A.Aiken uses humor, sarcasm, playful banter, and witty one on one repartee between the characters as she takes the reader on a journey into the fantastic. Her world building is colorful, energetic and vast-you can feel the emotional highs and lows, the anxiety and excitement as the war kicks into high gear, threatening everyone and everything in its’ path. There is plenty of bloodshed and violence wrapped in a comforting blanket of family, kinship and ….fun! If you haven’t read G.A.Aiken’s DRAGON KIN, what are you waiting for? And, for even more fun, check out her Pack, Pride and new Honey Badger shifter series !!
