Mark Beckett is the most annoying, patronizing, arrogant jerk on the face of the earth. So, naturally, I can’t get the damn man out of my head.Fiona: Like the old saying goes, I’m a jill of all trades but a master of none. What I lack in skill, however, I make up for in enthusiasm—something certain people (ahem) find irritating. But I have my reasons for living my life the way I do, for diving … life the way I do, for diving into one project after another and trying to make a difference. And if Mark Beckett doesn’t like it, he knows where to find the door. I don’t need his approval … or his panty-melting kisses.
Mark:
I enjoy the simple things in life: a job well done, a cold beer, a hot woman … you get the idea. But there’s nothing simple about the mess I just found myself in. The last thing I need is a pint-sized princess sticking her nose in my business and pushing every damn one of my buttons like it’s her job. But Fiona Pierce may be the only one with the tools to solve my problems—and the power to change everything.

“The Spark” (nook) was quite funny, I laughed out loud several times as I read the book. In addition to the humor, the story had angst, romance and sighs. Plus, of course, the HEA.
Ok, in the first chapter but quickly became junior high humor. Not my nitch
“The Spark” audiobook is just wonderful and tells the story of Fiona, a tiny dynamo of a woman and Mark, the muscular construction foreman. It isn’t love at first sight for Fiona and Mark. In fact, from the start, they can barely stand each other. Fortunately, due to a circumstance with Mark’s mom, they are forced to spend time together. Mark and Fiona slowly learn that their first impressions of each other were very wrong and that they are perfect for each other. Loved everything about this book, Sylvie had me rooting for Mark and Fiona from the very beginning.
4.5 Hilarious & Heartfelt Stars!
I absolutely loved this second book in the Carolina Connections series! We first met both Fiona and Mark in the first book, and I could not wait for this feisty couple! Mark tried some of his charming moves on Fiona, but she was not going to fall for this arrogant player. But when Mark needed help with his mom, Fiona was the first to the rescue. This story was a huge surprise to me. I loved the humor, heart and steam in the first book, and this one definitely had all of that! But this one really moved me. Fiona has a secret past she keeps from her friends, never letting on the pain she is feeling. She is always perky, sassy, but the first to offer help and comes up with the craziest ideas, I really loved her! Mark has his own past that caused him to build his walls against love. They make the perfect pair with Mark going along with her crazy ideas, but loving it the whole time. This enemies to lovers story was so hilarious, but it had me in tears at times as well. Amanda Stribling, and David Black nailed these wonderful characters so perfectly. They easily brought out all of the complex emotions that Fiona and Mark felt, from sassy to vulnerable, heartbreak to passion, and everything in between. I really enjoyed both their performances and thought they made this hilarious, exciting, and steamy romance even better!
i had previously read this book, and really liked it. Audio makes it even better . Perfect casting and some of funniest, wittiest dialogues are made even better in audio. I laughed out loud so much i think the other drivers thought I was crazy!
This story is hysterical. People probably thought I was crazy as I listen to this story on the way to work. I laughed so hard, people stared at me from their cars at lights. Mark and Fiona are a laugh a minute together. What made this story great was how these two broken people overcame together. This story made my 45 minute drive to work a piece of cake.
My second book by Sylvie sure didn’t disappoint. I loved it. Funny with suspense. The banter between Fiona and Mark was awesome and the chemistry was hot. Loved it and will recommend!
Fantastic RomCom & Listen Enjoyable & Heartfelt!
The Spark
An Enemies-to-Lovers Romantic Comedy (Carolina Connections, Book 2)
By: Sylvie Stewart
Narrated by: Amanda Stribling, David Black
This is Sylvie Stewart’s second book in her “Carolina Connections” series and I loved every word of it. I love how she finds the perfect balance of humor and heart in her stories, how she creates characters that are realistic and relatable. This is Fiona and Mark’s story, Fiona is Laney’s best friend, I feel in love with her in Laney & Nate’s story “The Fix”, the first book of the series. Fiona was a hoot back then and continues to be in this book, she is full of sass and personality. Mark works for Nate, he has a reputation with the ladies, he is a player who does not do repeats. Fiona and Mark do not exactly hit it off right away, I loved the banter between them, he could not help himself from getting under her skin to rile her up. A lot goes on in this book, it is well written and well plotted. I enjoyed finding out more about both characters, Mark had a heart of gold when it came to his Mom and Fiona had issues with commitment and longterm relationships. She had her reasons and they were heartbreaking ones. Mark really impressed me the way he handled her issues. This enemies to lovers romance is a great one, there is plenty of drama, angst, great humor and dialogue (Way to go Sylvie Stewart) some twists and suspenseful moments and some hot loving. It was great to see characters from the 1st book again as Laney & Nate take another step in their relationship. I am looking forward to what comes next in this wonderful series. Sylvie Stewart, thank you for another enjoyable story, the laughs and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Amanda Stripling and David Black are terrific narrators and voice artists. They bring these characters to life, give each their own voice and personality. Their portrayal of the characters was spot on, they were a perfect match and did them justices. They did a great job with capturing and projecting the characters emotions into their performances, with banter and landing the humor. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen
What I thought was going to be a funny book really gave me all of the feels! Fiona and Mark’s story definitely had its laugh out loud moments, but there was something so real about these two, especially Fiona and what she has been through and how she holds everyone at arms length. It was refreshing to watch Mark be the one to really pursue Fiona and I melted at the way he went about it.
The banter between these two was hilarious and sweet at times. Fiona’s chats with herself left me in fits of giggles all of the time. Those were so well written and so funny. Then just like that Ms. Stewart could turn things around and have it be a completely emotional scene and give me all of the feels. I wasn’t expecting that from this book, but so glad I found it!
Great read! I really enjoy this series and can’t wait for the next book!
I enjoyed this funny romcom. Sylvie did a good job of mixing humor with romance. The narrators were good. Made me laugh and feel good. This was my first Sylvie Stewart book and I’m looking forward to checking out her other books.
Fiona- OMG where do I start that girl is so special. Her thoughts and I suppose the way she thinks will keep you laughing. Mark- an amazing man after your own heart! Sylvie Stewart writes an amazing story, but the way she writes there are no words to explain. She has your heart attached at the beginning and does not ever let go!! Her writing is so different than any other I have read!! She tells a story like no others. If you want to go one click- go ahead and so. No regrets!! Love the story!
Short review. Funny hate to lovers love story. Every time Mark and Fiona are in the same room they’re being sarcastic and poking fun at the other, the more time they spend together the more they are drawn to each other in a way that they’ve never been to another.
