BraedynI’m an asshole. I wasn’t always this way; life has made me this way. I once believed in the good in all people, but then “life happened”. I’m not religious; I don’t believe in God. How can someone who created the world be so willing to take away life and all I believed in and loved? I was young. I believed in love and forever. Brooklynn Marsden was my high school sweetheart. We grew … Brooklynn Marsden was my high school sweetheart. We grew up together in Phoenix and she became my wife. I loved life with her more than anything. Until it was over. Then I hated life and vowed I would never love a woman again.
Women became an outlet to release my pent-up frustrations. Wham bam thank you ma’am was the motto I lived for years.
Until Rylee.
Rylee
Men are pigs. You heard me. Pigs. They are selfish and only concerned with what benefits them both in life and in bed. I believed in Prince Charming like every other little girl. Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, they all got the knight in shining armor who saved them from their dreary little lives and made them the happiest girls on the face of the earth.
Those were stories written for little girls, making them believe that one day a man would sweep them off their feet and worship them. BULLSHIT!!! All I’ve found are the court jesters and a bunch of cheaters.
Gone is the carefree girl who dreamed of fairy tales and believed in soul mates. In her place is the woman who trusts no one.
Until Braedyn.

Who doesn’t love a firefighter and a second chance at love romance, that would be nobody. Reawaken His Heart is an emotional story for both characters. Both suffering at the hands of love in such different ways, giving them a totally different outlook on life and erecting walls around their hearts so high it is going to take a ladder truck to get over it. A chance encounter between Braedyn and Rylee forms a connection that neither of them can ignore. As these two struggle to move past the hurt that still weighs them down from previous commitments, mistakes will be made, tears will be shed and apologies will need to be made. Their story is about confronting the past head on and moving forward. My only negative is that I found it hard in the past sections of the book at the beginning to connect to the characters, however once we hit the present day the story gripped and wouldn’t let go.
I loved this book. I loved the characters in this book. I loved the way the characters were developed. Most of all I loved their story. I loved the way they fell in love and I loved their HEA. They deserved it!
3.5

(Dual POVs)
The story starts off with a glimpse into both character’s pasts, giving you background as to why they both feel the way that they do about life and the opposite sex. Ry and Brae cross paths when Rylee’s car is upside down in a ditch and Braedyn pulls over to save her. Not having much of anyone to help, Braedyn offers to help Rylee with a few tasks and their relationship blossoms from there.
I’d say this story is very much insta-love. I appreciated that the characters were consciously aware of the pull they felt towards each other and didn’t try to fight it. There were quite a few sex scenes, which I’m not complaining about, I just wish we got more of a deeper intellectual connection. It saddened me when there were quite a few time jumps where it would’ve been nice for some of those intellectual developments. I understood Rylee being co-dependent in her previous relationship but I didn’t like that she felt she needed a man to complete her. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will be giving the next book in the series a try!
Favorite quotes:
Rylee has reawakened my heart to the possibility of a future. -Braedyn pg 109
“Your smile warms me, your eyes center me, and your arms calm my soul and provide the comfort and peace I need to make it through each day.” -Braedyn pg 193
Wonderful storyline. More sex than I usually like to read, but still a great read.
Reawaken His Heart by K.L. Myers is a contemporary romance told in first person, alternating point of view format. Braedyn rescues Rylee when her ex rams her car into a ditch. Both characters are overflowing with angst. Their story is loaded with angst, drama, lots of sex and a little action. This book might be right up someone’s ally, but it wasn’t mine. Frankly, I was happy to get to the end. Maybe it’s an age thing but I felt like I was reading something from a high school student. I can honestly say, I won’t be reading anything else from K.L. Myers.
