What Amazon reviewers are saying –
– I could not put this down. And when you think you know who did it, you will most likely be wrong. Loved it.
– Wow! I absolutely LOVED this book! I’m always looking to be surprised by the books that I read, I like something a little different-a twist on the norm. And this book had it all for me!
– Marvellous! Defies cliche.
– completely unputdownable! Not your traditional who-dun-it, Death Stalks Kettle Street is a character fueled murder mystery, cleverly written, shining a comedic insight into the quintessential English street.
– Beth has cerebral palsy and Greg OCD, however, they complement each other and add that much more heart to the story. I myself have been diagnosed with OCD and found that the subject is very accurately described and given the respect the subject deserves.
– Brilliant, quirky and charming, I could go on and on. John Bowen has written and absolute corker of a book which I struggled to put down.
– A gripping ‘cosy’ murder mystery, one of the best I’ve read in a long time. An absolute must for the fans of Agatha Christie. Well written, intelligent, with wonderful, original characters and unpredictable, suspenseful storyline.
– What a gem of a book! I loved the characters, the plot, the beautiful prose – just everything!
– A thoroughly enjoyable read, with many jaw dropping moments.
– I love both quirky reads and old fashioned ‘cosy crime’ novels; this is a brilliant combining of the two to give a modern challenging ‘whodunnit’ puzzle with some fabulous lead characters. It has some great twists and turns, enough convincing ‘suspects’ for you to consider but I think Greg and Beth are the real stars of this book.
– So much more than just a murder/mystery book. Full of wonderful characters!
– a brilliant murder mystery that keeps you guessing right until the end. With lots of twists and wonderful character moments throughout this is a book I won’t easily forget.
– This book has brought back my mojo for reading.
– If you are a sucker for a great ‘who dunnit’ that keeps you guessing right until the end then this is definitely one for you – BUT this book is so much more than that!! It is beautifully written and has the most wonderful lead characters.

This is a great book for mystery fans and mystery writers alike. There’s also a mystery story within the story. The characters are new and fresh and the author keeps you guessing to the end you’ll never see coming. Highly recommend.
This was an intriguing listen from the outset. I loved the main characters, Greg and his OCD made me laugh out loud although I felt guilty for doing so! Beth, a sound and solid character with mild cerebral palsy brings understanding and compassion into Greg’s life. There is a murderer on the loose in Kettle Street and the two unlikely sleuths put their heads together to try to find out who is killing off residents. I did guess fairly early on who was responsible but that didn’t detract from the story as it developed. Greg’s struggles were funny and tragic at times but always compelling.
Helen Clapp does an amazing job with the narration and I would listen to her again. All in all, a great audiobook listen.
Format: audiobook
This is clever, a murder mystery where one of the characters, Beth, is taking a course on writing a book, she chooses the murder mystery genre so we get to listen/read her mystery story whilst she learns the details to look for simultaneously noticing odd details about local deaths! even more so once she meets Greg. I love Greg, his OCD makes him an incredibly interesting character.
Throughout the story my mind jumped between the several characters that I thought the killer could be but I never truly knew for sure who it was until they had been revealed.
This Is a murder mystery with a difference and I loved every second of it.
It was an interesting story, the main characters were dealing with their own issues, but managed to solve the mystery.
Really an interesting take on a murder mystery. The charachters are different from those you usually find in this type of book.
started reading this book and stopped 20% into it. boring.
Yes, there is a mystery involved, but the beauty of this book lies in the unforgettable characters. The main characters and even the minor ones are Memorable for their flaws and inspirational in the way they challenge themselves to overcome them. In a lovely way, this book is a love story, sometimes whimsical and always heart warming.
I’ve never read a book like this!! Do you know what a pure delight this book is ? !!
Original in so many ways, a joy to read, a terrific puzzle of a mystery to solve and the nicest, very real Beth and Greg trying to live their daily lives and solve a crime.
This author deserves recognition for a terrific plot, wonderful characters that seamlessly walk off the pages and talk to you. The descriptions are on the mark, no over the top flowery prose, to describe Kettle Street and the people that live there. If you close your eyes, you can walk the street and hear the sounds of the neighborhood. And Greg, a person struggling with severe OCD, let’s you into his small world and see it through his eyes. Beth, a librarian, has cerebral palsy and good looks, and a brain and a witty sense of humor to deal with people.
And oh the delight of trying to be them, with binoculars doing “rear window” and hoping to catch a killer without pain to themselves.
The killer is a shocker and the reasons for the killings is one of a person in anguish because he/she can’t comprehend a past incident.
On one level, it’s a story about disabilities, on another, it’s about murder, and above that, it’s about love and understanding.
I promise you won’t be disappointed if you are waiting for a great original mystery or fiction or love story….this read has it all!
