Rose Gardner is trying to build a new normal. One that leaves the Fenton County crime world – including James “Skeeter” Malcom, the current king – behind. Her best friend and roommate is a big part of that effort, but Neely Kate is busy building her own life anew. She disappeared for a few days, scaring the spit out of Rose – which is why Rose finds it impossible to deny her when she suggests … they look for a missing parrot. Only this time Neely Kate isn’t interested in the reward money; she’s set them up to work with a cranky private investigator known as Kermit the Hermit. Rose sees it for what it is: another bid for them to become private investigators.
If nothing else, it’s a good distraction… until one of James’s nemeses, Buck Reynolds, comes calling for help. James’s brother has gone missing, and Reynolds is number one on the crime king’s suspect list. Only, according to him, he’s innocent.
Rose had promised herself she was through with the crime world, but she wants to see James’s brother safe. Besides, can she really say no when she might be the only one who can keep order in the county?

When the book starts out with…“I hadn’t intended to start off my day with a hostage negotiation…” you KNOW it’s gonna be good! Haha…
Rose and Neely Kate start investigating finding a missing parrot, what kind of trouble can they get into looking for a bird?
All hell breaks loose when Skeeter’s brother Scooter is kidnapped. Add two cases on their load makes it entertaining and suspenseful.
One, find a best friend to an elderly man. Two, not only find Scooter but save the country for a potential war. With Rose and Neely Kate, you never know what they will get into.
This one definitely pull your emotions all over the place but it is such an enjoyable ride even with heartbreak.
Loved the whole series
If you like the Rose Gardner series you will like For the Birds. Funny fast paced
This book ended on the biggest roller coaster of emotions that I’ve ever had. It started off slow with not a lot of action, then burst to life with it. A lot is happening in these books and I cannot get enough. I know the next installment will be just as fantastic. I love though that these books have a short timeline. They’re not spread out over years. It’s more spread out over a few days to a week. I love it! It’s like a movie in my head! Onto the next!
For the Birds starts with another wild adventure for Rose and Neely Kate as they work to solve a case of a missing parrot, only to then stumble into the case of a missing man, James Malcom’s brother, Scooter. Local crime lord Buck Reynolds is the top suspect, and Rose has to decide if she wants to step back into this crazy underground world. We also learn that Rose’s new roommate Neely Kate disappears for a few days without warning, and Rose becomes increasingly worried. If you’ve read Trailer Trash, you will learn about Neely Kate’s trip back to her hometown with companion, Jed Carlisle. The new vet and potential love interest, Levi Romano makes his debut in this book. Who will win Rose’s heart and will Neely Kate come clean about her recent whereabouts?!
WOW! This second book in the new series was really good. As always, Swank does an amazing job creating a story line that will keep you on the edge of you seat, wondering what will happen next. I am captivated by Swank’s ability to keep me wanting more, I never want Rose’s stories to end. I am looking forward to the next addition to the series.
When I read that Rose and NK decide to find a missing bird I thought it was pretty lame, but Denise doesn’t disappoint, naturally. Mrs. Mildred is hilarious in this book creating great comic relief. Throughout the book I tried to guess the outcome but there is a plot twist I didn’t see coming. I do love all the Rose and NK books. This one doesn’t disappoint!
Denise has done it again, this book was phenomenal! Such great writing and you can’t go wrong with Rose and Neely Kate duo!
I have been waiting for this book since I finished reading Family Jewels and it was definitely worth the wait! I love all of the Rose Gardner books but this is definitely my favorite one. This book was filled with excitement, mystery, romance, and humor…all the things I love in a book. Rose has grown so much throughout the books and I feel like she is closer to figuring out who she really is and it seems as though she is starting to embrace her true self.
The story Denise has been writing about Rose and her life is always exceeding my expectations and I could not be a bigger fan than I am right now. I’m only sad that the book was not longer and that I have to wait until next year for the next Rose Gardner Investigations book. I am really looking forward to it and to reading what Rose’s future holds for her and the people she loves. Thank you Denise for another amazing book!
Rose and Neely Kate are making fresh starts and what better way than in their new series?! Both having to make some hard decisions in their lives, Rose agrees to take on another case with Neely Kate for a welcome distraction. These two have a penchant for finding trouble in the most unexpected ways and this time is no exception.
I loved this book and I’m loving this series. Can’t wait for their next adventure!
I love the Rose Gardner Investigation series even more than the Rose Gardner Mysteries. I did not think this book could be better than Family Jewels but it definitely surpassed it! I absolutely loved everything about this book! Rose has grown so much since Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes! I have loved traveling on this journey with Rose! For the Birds left me so excited for the next installment of Rose’s investigation series. I have so many questions and thoughts going through my mind. For the Birds has brought my level of enthusiasm to a whole new level that I have never experienced before with a book!
Of all the Rose Gardner books this one is my favorite! I swear, with every Rose Gardner book Denise Grover Swank writes I fall more and more in love with these characters.
I cannot even tell you how much I was engrossed in this book. From the very first page I was transported back to Fenton County with the people that I love to follow. Rose, Neely Kate, Skeeter and Jed have evolved so much. I absolutely love who they have become – especially Rose. Rose has blossomed (see what I did there?) into such a strong woman. She still has a huge heart and uses her strength to protect her county and the people she loves.
My heart was breaking at the end of the book. Denise always leaves us wanting more. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to see where Rose and James’ relationship goes. For now, I will reread the series and mark my calendar for the next release date! Five stars – more if I could give them – highly recommended!!
I like this book. It is a series that I hope continues.
Once you start one of Rose Gardner’s stories you can’t pit the book down until the end. This time Rose and Neely Kate must find a lost parrot, and turns out it must be related with Scooter Malcolm disappearance. Will Rose be able to save Scooter? Will she and Skeeter Malcolm be friends again? Amazing.
I have read all the Rose Gardner books and can’t wait for the next one. I can’t put them down. I read before I go into work in the morning, during my lunch break, as I’m eating my dinner every evening and when I go to bed. It is very difficult getting up for work in the morning because I’m up till 2 am most nights reading. I love Denise Grover books and I’m not reading Center Stage and can’t put that down. Thank you Denise Grover Swank
Love Denise Grover Swank. I have read all her books
The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is sometimes the main character thinks to much. If that makes sense? It’s a personal thing I have.. these series is fantastic otherwise.
