What a scoundrel wants, a scoundrel gets…
A decade ago, the Marquess of Bourne was cast from society with nothing but his title. Now a partner in London’s most exclusive gaming hell, the cold, ruthless Bourne will do whatever it takes to regain his inheritance — including marrying perfect, proper Lady Penelope Marbury.
A broken engagement and years of disappointing courtships have left … have left Penelope with little interest in a quiet, comfortable marriage, and a longing for something more. How lucky that her new husband has access to an unexplored world of pleasures.
Bourne may be a prince of London’s illicit underworld, but he vows to keep Penelope untouched by its wickedness — a challenge indeed as the lady discovers her own desires, and her willingness to wager anything for them… even her heart.

A Rogue By Any Other Name, the 1st in the “Rules of Scoundrels” series was addictive! I love reading those misguided, uber-alpha heroes who dig a hole so deep you can’t imagine how they’re going to dig out. Bourne (Michael) was super-sexy, wounded by his past, and blinded by the need for revenge.
Then Penelope got hold of him and oh-my-goodness, …
Loved this book! I really enjoyed the banter with Penelope and Bourne. He was such a fun hero and Penelope was a likable heroine. The story was fun and the scene towards the end *fans self*.
I devoured this book like it was a box of rare dark chocolates. And in a sense, that’s exactly what this book was. It was a treasure and divinely delicious. Each page I turned made me sigh with pleasure, and I felt completely satisfied at the end. I have to say, this is only my second book I have read by Sarah MacLean, but it will not be my last. …
I have to admit it was a challenge to like Lord Bourne, but once I got into the book I couldn’t put it down, even with Bourne’s boorishness. Of course he realizes the error of his ways. Kudos to Penelope for her perseverance!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. Bourne was appropriately moody and rude at the beginning turning charming and alluring in the end. Penelope was suitably obedient daughter and loyal sister who turned to be a bit of spitfire and appeared to have grown a spine in the course of the book. I absolutely adored The Fallen Angel Club and the mysterious …
I admit I expect a lot from this author because she crafts such beautiful romances and great characters. This one delivered. So much. Penelope is the dutiful daughter trying to make things right for her sisters. Michael is the rogue hellbent on revenge. Watching them twist and turn on their way to HEA, sigh, was just splendid. Highly recommend.
I absolutely LOVE this whole series. Everyone is witty, fun, and lovely. I cannot speak highly enough about this cast of characters.
I have lots of feels about this book. And there is only one thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars, which I will explain in a bit. Honestly, if I could rate it exactly 4.5 stars I would! It’s just shy of a 5 star for me, but I don’t want to actually give it five as that wouldn’t be true to how I really felt.
I joined Sarah MacLean’s FB …
I’ve enjoyed every one of the books I’ve read by Sarah MacLean. What I really liked about this one was that the heroine wasn’t some dewey-eyed young maiden. At 28, she’s well on the shelf with a broken engagement in her past. Then her father ups the ante by increasing her dowry with a piece of land that the hero lost in his youth at the gaming …
Good Story, Sketchy Hero
I liked this story, mainly from Penelope’s point of view. Bourne was a step below a rogue. His downfall was tragic, but he played a key role in it. Had he been cast from society without culpability, I could understand why he felt so betrayed. However, he wasn’t, yet he was so consumed with revenge, he planned to use …
One of my favorite historical romances. It was hard to put down and I recommend it!
I purchased the Nook version of “A Rogue by Any Other Name.” I loved Sarah’s writing style and I was immediately drawn into the story. If I could, I would rate this as 6 stars.
I’m so glad I found her books. I just recently started reading historical romance books. Nothing has truly grabbed my attention as much as her books have. I’m going through and reading her back list now.
While dark and wounded heroes bring out the nurturer in a woman’s soul, I also think that they ignite the naughty spark in a woman’s spirit! There is something about them, even though you may try to remain proper, that makes you want to show your own naughty self : ) They certainly won’t reproach you for letting down your hair and giving in to …
Cast from society with nothing but his title, the Marquess of Bourne has become partner in the most exclusive gaming hell in London. Cold and ruthless, he’ll stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, even compromise his childhood friend, Penelope Marbury, forcing her to marry him.
A wager lost him everything, another might win him more than he …
There is so much about this book that is overwhelming as can be expected from MacLean’s writing. If you want a beautiful love story of triumph, this is your read.
