Everyone knows that all’s fair in love and war. But these two will learn that sabotage is a dish best served naked. The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love. Despite the odds against them from an … odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.
But when their two agencies merge–causing the pair to vie for the same position–all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals–so why can’t they act like it?
Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending, or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, hilarious story of romance in the modern world.more
I feel like Christina Lauren has ruined me for other books, because while this was a REALLY GOOD book, if it were any other author, I would have given it 5 Stars. Since it was a CL book, I have to give it 4, because I’ve read Roomies and Love and Other Words. I don’t love books about Hollywood and films and TV and famous people, generally; I prefer stories about “normal” people. But this was really good. It was a workplace romance, a kind of enemies-to-lovers story, but much more than “will they won’t they?” Snappy, fun, smart, sexy, with characters that you love and want to see get their happy ending.
I was down with the great banter between Carter and Evie. There were quite a few hijinks and shenanigans going on. Some were a little over the top, but some of them were really good. Another entertaining story, glad I finally got around to reading it.
This is an amazing real world romance. Carter and Evie are great characters and I love how they first meet before all the chaos about their jobs. The storyline is creative, funny and at times makes you want to scream in frustration.
I highly recommend this book for the romance, the work place drama and for the friends who always have your back.
The writing duo authors come up with terrific plots and quirky characters that never disappoint.
“…women are not that complicated…Smarter? Yes. Complicated? Not really. We want progress, not perfection.”
I always love reading books by this duo. It’s seamless, fresh, creative, funny, steamy and so much more every time I read a new creation they have created.
“It feels like we’re standing on the deck of the Titanic as it goes down, saying, It’s gonna bob back up any second now.”
When two people find themselves fighting for the same thing can they put the personal aside and work on the professional side? Can you keep dirty play behind doors and not in the workplace? When you find yourself letting down your walls only to want to build them higher. You start asking who are you protecting…yourself or the ones trying to break down your walls?
“I was so excited to see him, and now I’m confused all over again about who he is. It’s like fate keeps telling us there’s just no way to make it work.”
This book didn’t read like the usual quick-witted, funny, and sarcastic Christina Lauren books. It didn’t have the same feel as their other books or the same writing flow. It felt very stunted, like it had been heavily edited or there was a creative block.
If I really enjoy a book, I can finish it in a day. It took me two weeks to complete this book. I kept thinking I was about to get to the good part, but by the time I determined that wasn’t going to happen, I was over half-way through with the book; might as well finish it at that point. There were brief parts that were fun to read like the tipsy spy endeavor, but most of it just kind of fell flat.
Others might really enjoy this book, but for me personally, I was disappointed.
Problems with Bookbub (and too many words). Refer to this link for my full review: https://wp.me/p3Tp0d-Kg
A couple of agents from rival firms in Hollywood are set up by mutual friends and meet at a party. Despite their competitive jobs, they hit it off and the possibility of a relationship is in the horizon. But when their agencies merge, they’ll find themselves competing for the same job.
This book is one of the best office romances I’ve ever read. An underhanded, chauvinistic boss, an all-out sabotage war between co-workers and a love-hate relationship will have Carter and Evie making you laugh and swoon at the same time.
Christina Lauren are so good at developing worlds in such a way that I feel like a sort of like an honorary character, or in this case an honorary talent agent. However, as much as I kind of enjoyed reading about Carter and Evie’s jobs and, while I understand that their jobs were the center of their storyline, sometimes those pages seemed to drag on. Not enough to get me to stop reading though.
I really liked Carter and Evie’s meet cute and was really enjoying the first part of their story but I did feel less invested in them as a couple for the second half. Strangely enough, one of my favorite parts of this book was Michael Christopher.
While this is probably my least favorite Christina Lauren book to date, their writing and world-building remains top notch and I wouldn’t have any trouble telling people to go ahead and give this story a try.
*About the narrators. I approve. Their voices seemed to fit the characters and I would definitely listen to more books narrated by this duo
This book wasn’t what I was expecting from these authors – it does have humor but still was a little on the boring side.
4.5 stars – Another wonderful book from Christina Lauren. As I have had such good luck with this author, I was hesitant to read this book – you know, too good to be true issues. I enjoyed the bantering back and forth with Carter and Evie, even more since they didn’t get vindictive when their boss seemed to put them against each other. The practical jokes they played on each other were cute – the car glitter bomb would have been amazing to see! A delightful holiday weekend read!
A fun and funny romantic comedy that tackles the glass ceiling head-on. Witty characters, steamy romance, supportive (and hilarious) besties, and a sexist boss you’ll love to hate make this a perfect beach read!
I have read and loved every contemporary romance Christina Lauren have written and Dating You Hating You is no exception. The banter between Evie and Carter is laugh out loud funny most of the time and sweet and heart-warming the rest. The “rivalry” and ensuing battle between the two of them is nothing short of genius! CL have a way of making you feel every embrassing, hilarious and swoon-worthy moment. Definitely worth a read.
Could not get into it, didn’t read even a third, returned.
Actually, a bore! This was a far cry from most of the “Beautiful” offerings. Skip it.
