An emotional M/M romance between a blind man and his guide dog’s new veterinarian. Carter and Isaac’s story had moments of humor, raw emotion, steam, frustration and empathy. For the most part I enjoyed the main characters’ chemistry and interactions.
I appreciated Carter’s patience with Isaac and willingness to let Isaac have his little temper tantrums. I wanted to really like Isaac but at times his character felt so childish and moody. I understood the foundation of his frustrations and reservations but his continued behavior became too much at times, especially around his dog Brady. I’m just glad he redeemed himself in the end.
The romance in this story was sweet and a beautiful slow burn. I loved the physical exploration that the couple took together. Their trust in each other was palpable. I enjoyed how Isaac’s disability didn’t effect their relationship in the slightest.
The dialogue in the book was a little bland and felt kind of cheesy at times. It wasn’t too deep or complex.
N.R. Walker is beyond talented at creating flawed characters and making us love the heck out of their journey. I do not know how she does it, but she does it with every book I read. I love her fun, lighthearted books, but I really enjoy her books that make us engage a range of emotions while reading them. Sometimes we even find ourselves a little frustrated with the character, but love them nonetheless. Isaac is such a character. I wanted to hug him, shake him, laugh with him, and cry with him.
I loved that their love story was not fast and furious. With the storyline, a slow burn was absolutely perfect. Sometimes love moves fast, and sometimes it’s gradual. Their chemistry was undeniable, and I loved how Carter was with Isaac. He really understood Isaac, and he cared about him. It was more than just attraction, and he was definitely attracted.
Alongside the two main characters, the side characters were enjoyable. I loved Brady. It’s hard to deal with the loss of a pet, but Isaac needed a new guide dog.
Michael Pauley (Dean) did a great job bringing this story to life. I love listening to his voice. It’s as comfortable as a plush blanket, while snuggled on the couch to read/listen to a book.
I listened to this as an Audiobook and I must say it was quite fitting to experience a blind man’s love story by listening to it
Carter is a vet who just moved to Boston to take over a practice. When he goes to do a house call to Isaac’s place he is quite surprised that his patient is a guide dog. Not to mention his interest in the gorgeous owner.
Soon it’s obvious man and dog has not connected after Rosie’s (Isaac’s previous guide dog) death and Carter wants to help.
Though, once their tentative friendship and relationship blooms, Isaac’s moods and anger might ruin everything.
The most intriguing character was obviously Isaac with his totally different way of living and his emotions, but seeing Carter getting used to and managing the blind man and his temper perfectly was fascinating. Their relationship showed nicely how two people should go through and fight their problems and open up so they can be together.
There were many many sweet moments between the two men, as well as with Brady, the smartest doggo of all. The love story was quite unique and I loved to hear how one’s disability does not matter (as it shouldn’t) when the right person arrives in their life.
Beautiful, sweet and of course scorching hot as expected from the author. M/M romance lovers don’t hasitate to pick this up.
A few words on the audiobook… it was my first and it was a totally different experience. I loved listening to Michael Pauley, he has quite a sexy voice to be honest but also really expressing. The bonus is that listening to a story about someone who doesn’t see and his hearing and other senses are hightened was fitting and amazing.
Was not my last Audiobook for sure.
