This story upped anything that gets you to pondering. Original and imaginative keeps it interesting throughout.
If you live reverse harems with a little humor, you are going to love this particular story. October is a correctional nurse with a lot of responsibility and just when she thinks she’s had enough, her life is about to get a whole lot interesting. This story has a lot of drama with twists and turns that will keep you captivated but the Filipino folklore aspect of the story itself is what got me.

October is a 22 year old nurse working at a correctional institute and caring for her mentally ill mother. One day odd things stared to happen. Bugs seem to congregate and look at her. She touches a stone and it glows. Someone slashes her tires. Soon, October is embroiled in the politics and cares of a sister world called Terraway. Teamed with a shape shifting warrior and a half vampire, October seeks to reap enough souls to save both her world and that of Terraway.
So, wow! This novel was very good. I loved how seamlessly this other world was brought into our familiar world. October is a well developed person and her narrating voice is strong. The supporting characters are interesting and varied. We don’t know a ton about Terraway yet but the glimpse are very interesting. I’m not familiar at all with Filipino folklore but the story is supposed to contain characters from this folklore.

It starts off a tad slow and it made me want to put it down but then suddenly I was hooked and drawn into a whole new world. It was very psychological as well as action packed. My heart bled for our heroine. I really want to know what happens next.
Wow! What a read!
From the beginning to the end, easy flowing words. The plot clear. The characters different and interesting. I loved the television and movie star references. The main female has severe OCD as well as undiagnosed PTSD due to her poor living conditions. She’s a germophobe due to her mother’s unhygienic living conditions. We are reading through her perspective and it makes the story comprehensive. We do not have to guess what is going on. Thus easy flowing scenarios. She’s a nurse at the prison which enables her addictive cleaning behavior. What I enjoy most is the original of this story. Real life and magic meet. The different magical creatures gives a paranormal feel. I do think enjoy her humor and mental dialogue. Comedic. Very well written.
As always I am truly blown away. LOVED THIS Book !!!
What’s not to like? Shapeshifting, laugh-out-loud hilarity, and an intriguing main character.
This book was outstanding! I loved the wonderful ride that was this story. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
Taste is book one in an 8-part fantasy romance series and my first ‘taste’ of Mary E. Twomey’s writing. Although the series indicates a reverse harem, this first book spends most of the time setting the stage for the subsequent books in the series and is tame in comparison to others who just dive right in. The first chapter starts a little rocky but picks up speed and starts to become clear where the author is going with the story and the main character, October Grace.
This unique story is jam packed with crazy creatures – not just vampires and shapeshifters – living below Topside, in Terraway. October Grace soon discovers she is more than a correctional nurse and care taker of her mother. She is a rare Omen who can help feed the citizens of Terraway by reaping souls of people who are facing death’s door. However, not everyone in Terraway is on October’s side. Will she be able to concur her internal demons and become the Omen everyone says she is?
Great 3-D characters you can relate with and bond to throughout the story. Loaded with strange and unique creatures you don’t normally come across, and woven with adventure throughout. Definitely would recommend this to folks looking for a new spin to the normal PNR stories.
