I always have high hopes for this author and she never disappoints, but even with a familiar world, she made it feel brand spanking new! It helps that now we have bears. I loved this book, this couple and I loved the bears. I am thrilled with the direction this series is going. Can’t wait for more!
HOLY.COW!
I am Ang from PNR Book Lover Reviews and I am guest reviewing over here at Saucy Reviews On Kinky Korner.
Why? Because Bloggers should help each other out, we should support each other and that’s what I love about Kylie and Myself.
Anyways on to my Review, Silver Silence by my favorite author Nalini.
What an emotional ride this was, I am so grateful…thankful to be guest reviewing my queen of PNR I am literally blown away with this story, I can’t even begin to explain how much I loved this story. It gave me all them feels, like I did almost 10 years ago when I picked up Slave to Sensation.
This book was everything I was hoping it would be, as always Nalini takes us to this amazing real like the world that swallows us up, the character’s leap from the page and the emotions that she can pull from us while reading.
Silver Mercant and her Gentleman Bear Valentin!
Let’s pause here, Bears! YASS *inserts twirls and confetti* Bears are in equal place my other fav shifter alongside Wolfs, and wow Valentin nailed being a bear in every way, Hawk will always be my #1 man but seriously guys he’s up there with the best of them.
Okay! Continuing. This story is like Season Two of the Psy-Changeling series so it’s technically book 16 but it’s also book 1 in the Psy-Changeling Trinity. Honestly being a fan since the begging and have been able to read them all, I don’t really think you could go into this without reading the first 15 it just would not make any sense. In my opinion.
This story picks up after the last book has established the Trinity Accords, and we watch the courting of an alpha gentleman bear Valentin and an ice queen Silver who is Kaleb’s assistant and in charge of EmNet. With this new chapter in this world the Psy, Humans, and Changelings the three races must work together as a united front.
Nalini does some of the most freaking amazing world creating, in this book she must do that again only because its set-in Mosco with a different. New clan. As always, the romance is on point, Valentin is legit head over heels crushing on Silver but she is Silence in a way that she just needs to be. Without too many spoilers she has one intense power.Tp-A
I love that he has been trying to woo her over the last ten months, and we come into the story at a point where she needs to lay low, and what better place to lay low with a clan of bears. Denhome hold their own secrets and I just love that under all Silvers iciness she is the perfect fit for our gentleman bear. I can’t gush enough about how much I really loved this new setting and to meet some new characters like Silvers brother, and to have him possibly going to be courted by another clan mate, I can’t wait to see them two guys falling hard. That’s my own take from that.
“Today an apple, tomorrow ice cream, the next day licking honey from her body, it was all about strategy…and stubborn bearish hope.”
Valentin, is beautiful inside and out him and his bear have picked Silver as there’s. Val is fun, playful and family means everything. I loved watching the interactions with his clanmates the cute and adorable baby bears, and his own family are the perfect recipe for a fantastic story. I am so excited to see where this next chapter in season two will take us. Mate. Family and clan that is a bear’s heart! What I thought was funny, is that Val kept telling himself be sneaky like a cat… be the cat. I legit love this man.
“Mr I.A.M. Medvezhonok. Mr. I’m a Teddy Bear”
So much happens with the Human alliance, the new bad guys and I have realized how hard it is to write a review you want to gush about without giving everything away. Dudes this is harder than I thought it would be.
What I also loved that Silver had so many things in common with Valentin, she also believed family is and foremost #1 and when her life is in danger the lengths that Ena Merchant will go is a little creepy but you got to love that grandmother!
With the fall of silence already happened in the first chapter of this series, we know what Silver has watched and seen what can happen. When it comes to her own silence it’s a great way to see her choice why and when she will break. (that was hard not to give it away)
“Ain’t no party like a bear party. It’s the hangover that’s the problem. Worth it. Carpe-the-diem! Wolves are cool, bears are fools.” ~Graffiti on a Mosco wall
You can never be upset picking up a Nalini story, this story was fresh and the writing is just beautiful with the way we just get caught up in all that is happening, I found myself laughing and crying and throwing tantrums because I just couldn’t believe what was happening before my eyes. The perfect blend of everything you want in a PNR story.
“moyo solnyshko” – Sun of my heart. Sunshine of my life.
I want to start this review off by saying I listened to this book on audio and the lady that read it Angela Dawe did an amazing job. She brought the characters to life with all the different voices she used and she did a pretty good job at the Russian accent too! Now all that being said this book wasn’t as good as others, but it wasn’t bad either. I liked Valentin and Silver but their relationship was missing something for me. On top of that the author had the hero give the heroine a nickname and it was repeated and over to the point were I was ready to rip my fucking hair out. That nickname was “Silver F$%#ing Mercant” and after the first 100 times it was said I started yelling Stop!!!!
Just saying it lost it’s cool after the first 100 or so times……we get it She is Silver Mercant whatever. At least there was lots of cute little bear cubs! I can’t wait for Bo’s book to come out.
This is one of my two favorite Psy-Changeling books. I re-read it every few months because I just love the scenes between Silver and alpha bear Valentin. 🙂
Silver Silence is the start of a new storyline in the Psy Changeling series. Players are being set on the chess board as changes still ripple around the world in the aftermath of fallen Silence. There also seems to be a larger focus on human and Psy in regards to personal relationships. I’m looking forward to reading about those developments, but I’m especially curious about the role Bowen Knight and the Human Alliance will play in future books!
And the bears! I can’t forget to mention the bears! Their charismatic, endearing, protective, snarky, and bossy personalities were so stinking funny! I knew I loved bears for a reason!
I liked getting to learn more about the dynamics of the Mercant family and Silver Mercant herself, but Valentin Nikolaev’s cunning and mischievous personality had me utterly enthralled! I didn’t think Silver had a chance of holding out on him for long, but she was actually ballsier than I expected and gave as good as she got! Their chemistry and romance was just so…beautiful!
Overall, the story was solid. The romance was fantastic and the characters were relatively well rounded. The Trinity Accord storyline didn’t seem to progress too much, but the foundation was obviously being laid for future books. If you haven’t read the series, this would be a good starting point! The first story line is summarized in the beginning, but if you have the chance to read from the start of the series, go for it!
This Is possibly the best book that Nalini Singh has written to date. This series is just amazing and have loved every single book and didn’t think you could get any better. But it has.
To be honest, I read this book twice before writing my review. The first time I read it was solely for my own enjoyment. I absolutely adore everything Nalini Singh has ever written and this book is no exception! Silver Silence made me both chuckle and cry, and
Me with Nalini Singh when I was lucky enough to meet her in 2015.
by cry, I mean ugly sob for the second part of the book. I was afraid I was dehydrated by the time I finished this book. It was all I could have wanted for Silver’s book. Okay, enough gushing and on to the review!
Silver Mercant was introduced in the first half of the Psy-Changeling series. She was Kaleb Krychek’s personal assistant and her family is a Psy shadow power. In the later books, she heads up the EmNet which is a worldwide emergency response system. Needless to say, Silver’s a complete badass and alpha heroine! She needs a hero who can both appreciate her badassness and break through the shield of Silence surrounding her. Luckily the readers, Nalini Singh had the perfect hero up her sleeve. Valentin Nikolaev, the alpha of the StoneWater Bears. Yup, bears! Singh has moved away from her usual leopards and wolves to bring us to a new pack of bears! And the bears are freaking awesome. Like the SnowDancer wolves, the bears reside in the same housing complex, this time a cave. Silver is introduced to the world of the bears after being poisoned and needing a secure place to reside. Luckily for her, Valentin had his eye on Silver for a while now and was more than willing to offer her safe haven.
While a majority of the book focused on Silver and Valentin, Singh continued introduce the arc of the new series, Psy-Changeling Trinity, of which Silver Silence is the first book. Unlike her previous books, i.e. Slave to Sensation, Kiss of Snow, etc, these books have two word titles, singling the start of the new storyline. Silence and the Psy Council fell in the previous books and now a new world order is developing, complete with a new unknown villain. One of the storytelling techniques Singh excels at is keeping the reader engaged throughout a long series. While each of her books is standalone, apart from Allegiance of Honor, there is an overall storyline which ties them together. Silver Silence continues that new storyline as the stability of this new world is threaten by fringe groups as well as the Architect. I have my guess about how the Architect is but I have feeling we won’t find out for a while, especially considering how long it took us to find out who the Ghost was in the previous series.
As much as I admire Singh’s world shaping, my favorite part of this book is the relationship between Silver and Valentin. In this series, we’ve seen many examples of Pys’s breaking their Silence and forming relationships. However, Silver presented a new twist to this familiar story. She quickly gives in to Valentin’s playful seduction but her Silence is still necessary. She has a very different reason for needing to suppress her emotions and when she has to make that choice, my heart broke. Without spoilers, the depth of their relationship is severely tested and how Valentin deals with it shots him up to the top of my all-time favorite heroes list. He is so passionate and loving of Silver even when facing something which surely means his own heartbreak. I honestly have no words for the emotions I experienced reading their love story. It was just so beautiful.
I’m sure I’ve gushed enough over this book by now but I’d just like to throw out a few more things. There was a myriad of nicknames within this book, which some characters like Valentin having as many as four. While initially confusing, it actually proved to be very sweet once you realized they symbolized a special connection. I’m also hoping for a MM romance for Nalini Singh. There were hints of it in this book and maybe if we all wish hard enough, Nalini Singh will give us a novella with Silver’s brother, Arwen and Pavel, Valentin’s lieutenant. I want to end this review with saying that everyone should read this book!
Nalini Singh takes her excellent story-telling skills to a new level in this first book of the second “season” of her Psy-Changeling universe. This series is one of my very favorites, and Silver Silence is a totally awesome beginning to the new season. The introduction of the bear clan with their raucous humor and in your face honesty paired with Silver, who appears so unemotional but is not, is brilliant. Throw in the complication that occurs (no details so I don’t spoil it) and you have a really excellent story that I hated to see end. Absolutely a 5 star read.
I have really enjoyed this series and look forward to more.
The latest installment in the Psy-Changeling series does not disappoint. Can’t wait for the next book!
Love the Psy-Changling world!
Silver Silence by Nalini Singh is the first book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series, but remains within the Psy-Changeling world. I know, I am kind of stating the obvious by the name, but it needed to be said. If you have not read the first 15 books in the Psy-Changeling series, I think you could easily read this book and not be confused or feel lost. You are going to miss the connections and deeper layer that one gains from knowing the existing characters, but that is typically true in any series.
If you read many of my reviews, you know I am stingy with the 5 bullet (or star) ratings. It is a rare sight around here and even some of my favorites don’t pull off a perfect rating, but Silver Silence earned every one of those 5 bullets. Singh compelled me to care about every character and ripped emotions from me at every twist and turn.
The bear shifters are my people! Or..shifters. Whatever. You know what I am saying here. Singh’s ability to pull back the layer of multiple characters within one book, is mind blowing. The romance rang true and their journey was full of surprising twists and turns. Silver Silence was so much more than a typical romance story. Their story squeezed your heart, made you bleed and then gently puts you back together again.
The antics and polarity between Valentin and Silver HIT. On many different levels. The character building, world building and writing in general is flawless in Silver Silence.
Truly, my favorite by Nalini Singh to date.
I love it!!
