From the team that brought you The Obstacle Is the Way and Ego Is the Enemy, a beautiful daily devotional of Stoic meditations—an instant Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller. Why have history’s greatest minds—from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with today’s top performers from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities—embraced the … coaches to CEOs and celebrities—embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise.
The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as lesser-known luminaries like Zeno, Cleanthes, and Musonius Rufus. Every day of the year you’ll find one of their pithy, powerful quotations, as well as historical anecdotes, provocative commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms.
By following these teachings over the course of a year (and, indeed, for years to come) you’ll find the serenity, self-knowledge, and resilience you need to live well.

I love this book. Read a page from it every day. Great wisdom.
For anyone interested in stoicism this books serves as the perfect primer to be digested at the right pace, offering a principle you can meditate upon each day.
I began this as nightly reading for the new year. It is very interesting and inspirational. I love how something from centuries ago can have practical application. I find myself highlighting and jotting notes and I am only 8 days in!
The search for truth is not external but internal, in confronting ourselves with the external world.
Every moment of our life must be seen as a moment of experience and growth.
We are and become what we think of ourselves. If we have greater clarity, a correct interpretation of who we are and who we want to become, we can truly begin our journey towards awareness instead of turning around in circles, void of new experiences and evolution.
Great book!
I began this book, and its corresponding journal, on January 1st, 2021. Each morning, I sit down and read the selection and then turn to the journal and answer the question the reading has inspired.
I was concerned that it would expect me to be without any emotion whatsoever, but the truth is that it simply teaching one to not overly indulge in emotion, or emotional outbursts, when a sense of calm should endure.
The book points out, in simple, consumable bites, the pillars of stoicism, and invites one to improve their own life by turning your focus to what you can control, and not trying to be everything and anything at all times.
What should I be worrying about in this moment? What can I control? How should I react, or not react?
I’m reading this book at the same time as I work my way through Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. And the addition of spending half an hour a day with her suggested Morning Pages, has literally changed my life. My focus is where it needs to be – on my hopes and dreams, and the things that I can control. In any case, I highly recommend The Daily Stoic, as well as The Daily Stoic Journal.
Timeless. How to be a grown up and not a Karen.
I’ve used this as a daily reader for 4 years. Great advice and motivation for those wishing to change attitudes in their life and bring a sense of calm and internal peace.
Very concrete actionable philosophy in bite sized chunks.
I like this book because I like inspirational quotes and sayings on life and this book is perfect.
Essentially a collection of other people’s aphoristic thoughts. Delivered in a calendar type format that precludes easy access to the nugget you might actually be in need of at any given time. A handy reference for quotes, not much else here though.
Very thought provoking!
Good way to start morning: Brief thought from the Stoics.
Stoic philosophy served up in daily doses to ponder and help you get through the morass of madness in the world. I consider myself a joyful skeptic and stoicism is part of how to get there.
Great book really helps to keep one centered.
The truth is you are never finished with this book. I’m on my 2nd year of going through the daily readings. Great stuff.
The most empowering book I’ve read in a long time. If you want to take back control of your life, read this book! The great philosophers are considered “Great” for a reason… their common sense. An easy, yet fascinating read that had me slapping my forehead, thinking, “Of course, so simple; I can do that and be much calmer & happier!
