From USA Today Bestselling Author, Casi McLean, five award-winning novelettes with supernatural twists grab you on page one and hold you spellbound long after you read “The End.” At first these stories reel you into what appears to be a formula romance. Then they turn the genre on its head, throwing a perfectly aimed, delightful curveball at the surprising and satisfying endings. The writer … writer doesn’t rush any part of these stories, letting the reader see, hear, and feel the magical eeriness of one fateful night.
A note from the author
I designed The Destiny Series to give readers a taste of my writing and leave them wanting more. Five short stories in a collection that capture the essence of my genre and style: ethereal, supernatural, romantic, paranormal, heartwarming, all rolled into one book, sprinkled with a touch of magic. I hope my shorts entice you into my novels. Allow me to introduce you to my heroines.
Self-reliant Reagan Nichols is no stranger to challenges, but ever since twilight fell over Spirit Lake and a murky mist oozed inland, everything felt surreal. When she finds a little girl wandering through the eerie fog, Reagan vows to save the child’s father from the bowels of a ghostly vessel adrift on the lake. Will the three survive a confrontation with pure evil in order to meet their Destiny?
Savanna Bradford’s impulsive reaction to her boyfriend Ryan’s proposal spirals her into a rendezvous with fate and a mystical gift that could alter her future. Will the timeless struggle between dreams and passion bait her into repeating history, or will a simple gift from her bizarre encounter steer Savannah toward her true destiny before it’s too late?
Sabrina Wentworth’s bewildering gift swept her into the sensuous arms of a dream lover. Every night––after midnight––she slips into an illusory world drenched in passion. But the sands of time run out tonight. Can Brie find the key to her fantasy world before the reality of her ex boyfriend’s deadly plot plays through, or will she be destined to death after midnight?
Prominent heart surgeon, Sierra Norton, performs minor miracles on a daily basis, but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine she would live one. When lightning strikes her flight the aircraft plunges, swirls through turbulence, and catapults Sierra into a treacherous past––the attack on Pearl Harbor. In a whirlwind blur, Sierra’s courage, skill, and passion challenges her sanity. Can the convergence of three strong women reset history to fulfill her destiny?
When New York Time’s best selling author, Katlyn Harris, discovers a timeworn painting in the attic of the isolated home she mysteriously inherits, she feels a surge of déjà vu that spins her into a mysterious fantasy. Can dreams pierce the realm of reality or is Katlyn’s mystic connection to the antique painting the fulfillment of a promise torn from the pages of history?
Just when you think you’ve got the story figured out, BOOM. Romance, suspense, time-slips, mystery and a touch of paranormal, all wrapped into one ingeniously creative book.

10 STARS OMG!!!!!!!!!! If you love thrills, chills, love and laughter you have to read these books. I loved everyone of these stories. Starting out one way but there was a twist that surprised and thrilled me. Everyone of them had me crying at one time or another during each of them. Casi McLean , these are all winners to me , thank you so much for writing them and bringing a little magic into the lives of all that read them.
Destiny:
What I really liked the most about this story is the eeriness conveyed by the prose. I love how it all revolved around a mysterious lake!
“Sycamore and oak branches, interspersed with tall Georgia pines stretched across the cove like fingers pressing the mist into the watery depths. What appeared to be an old wooden mast pierced through the hovering fog toward the hazy moon.”
This was an eye unexpected gem of a story that brings two souls together under unusual circumstances. The only thing I didn’t really follow was the mentioning of “dark and foreboding spirits” since we don’t meet any and the story has a surprise at the end that is pretty far from dark and foreboding. But I loved the characters and the fact that you don’t really get a full idea of what was going on. I was ok with that. I believe that there’s so much whimsy that you don’t always need the black and white to fall for the charms of a story.
The Gift:
This was my favorite out of Author McLean’s short stories. It was a terrific tale of regret and being frightened of the unknown. Savy finds something that scares the heck out of her, and she literally runs away from what could be. A timely snowstorm and stuck vehicle cause her to reevaluate her values.
“The wind whistled, shifting her car, luring it toward more mounding drifts along the roadside. Ice crawled across tree limbs pressing branches together into a mesmeric maze.”
There’s always a mystery about Author McLean’s stories and this one is like no other. Will Savy decide to follow her career or refuse to embrace regret in her life? I loved this simple yet powerful message that is important to all of us.
After Midnight:
I’m not sure I followed everything in this short story, but the concept was magical. I loved the idea of having dreams about a mystery man. Sabrina was very lonely and submerged herself in work… Until after midnight when her dreams pulled her into a perfect relationship. It was unfortunate that she played out her needs with her coworker, who had nefarious plans.
“But the cold, drizzly day still slunk around her like a shroud reminding her of how utterly alone she was.”
Sabrina didn’t seem to really care for Derek, which made their relationship sad and weird. He never seemed to be “right” for her, and I’m assuming she thought she was just comparing him to her dream time boyfriend. There was a couple places where Derek’s dialogue was clunky, and his point of view made him sound more like a Disney villain. But I loved the mystery and the story of the clock. It was nice to see workaholic Sabrina get her love in the end, no matter how crazy it sounded.
Convergent:
I’m a sucker for a little girl. Especially one that’s not annoying, and Brooklyn is a sweet, sick little one. Love her interactions with her father and Sierra. This story was fascinating to me. I know we all know about WWII but I appreciated the amount of detail Author McLean put in those scenes.
“Faded newspaper clippings and photographs, yellowed with age, showed the highlights of a lost generation.”
I know this is ridiculous, but this story just seemed so realistic and relatable. Yes, its a paranormal short story, but the chemistry was so strong between ALL the characters that it seemed like something that could really happen. The ending made me smile hard.
The Pegasus Chronicle:
I loved the Greek myths and the ones with Pegasus were just magic. A beautiful white horse with wings. It’s the epitome of what a little girl thinks is magical. Katlyn is no different. She used a story she knew from her childhood to create best selling fiction. Poor Kat didn’t know her family so this story helped her through the tough times. And now she inherited a mansion in the middle of the country that may have come just when she needed it most.
“Here, she listened to the silence, relaxed to the tranquil hush of unfamiliar stillness.”
But what’s with the portrait of the lonely man? Why does it call to her? I adored the outrageous way the Pegasus was the missing link to her forgotten past. And the surprise ending was both smart and unbelievable. But unbelievable was the key to everything here. Kat missed out on so much growing up that she needed a little unbelievable in her life.
The Destiny Series is comprised of five short novelette ranging from sci-fi to time travel, mystery, and romance. They each stand alone, but they’re very quick reads, just edify to get a good feel for the plot. If you need a quick bite off adventure, this is a nice set of stories to sink into.
Romance with a paramoral twist. These 5 movelettes are a fabulous read. Casi Mclean is a master storyteller who draws you into each of the stories . Loved them, imposible to pick a favorite. The supernatual twist in each one of the five is so intriguing and they will leave you with happy endings. You will love these as much as her full length novels.
This was a well-written and unique collection of short stories. All of them involve women who are (seemingly) successful and not interested in a romantic relationship. However, something seems to have a very different idea for each of them! In each story, there was an aspect of deja vu/time travel. Have you ever felt like you have met someone before or that you have experienced something beyond belief? Each of these tales will make you question reality.
The author does a great job with describing the scenes and drawing the reader into the stories. Full of details, feelings and emotions, I read each of these stories quickly. There is an aspect of fate or destiny in each and you will enjoy the HEA endings for each of these women. I was given the chance to read this book through a review group and chose to review it.
Format: Kindle Edition
