AJ Reed grew up in foster care until he ran away in his teens and started earning his way through the rodeo circuit, until injury made him quit. Left adrift with no real skills, he wandered through almost as many towns and jobs as he did women. He’s finally found a decent place to settle as the foreman on the Rydell River Ranch, until he is faced with the shocking surprise that shows up one … afternoon in the form of a girl who the state claims is his daughter.
Kate Morgan comes to the Rydell River Resort to stay for the summer to grieve for the mother she lost and to meet the brother she only just recently learned she had. Her mother’s secret has left her spiraling in confusion as well as grief. Unsure what to do with this knowledge, she makes arrangements to be a guest at the resort that her half-brother is owner of. She has no idea what she is seeking by coming here, but it certainly isn’t the ranch employee who catches her eye nor his daughter who catches her heart.
AJ soon realizes that the woman he just might have feelings for is his boss’s sister, and she threatens the only real place he’s ever belonged. All the while, a young girl he never imagined he wanted illustrates that permanent is far more than an address. But how can a man who’s never been accountable to anything or anyone hope to commit to not just a place, but a woman and a daughter?

Leanne Davis has really outdone herself with this book. AJ’s story is something that many people face and deal with. Kate stumbles into AJ Read and neither saw it coming.
This book deals with the effects of foster care and trauma in like through it. As a foster parent Davis has represented AJ’s story profoundly well!
This is book #4 this is about Aj is the brothers ranch hand. He meets Kate which we find out on her mothers dying bed she finds out she has a half brother named jack that he had no clue he had a sister. Aj has a tough life and he finds out a secret that might change his life and he might want Kate to share it with.
Just the absolute best story. Everything I like to read about and more. Such a great story I will read again and again. A keeper!!
River Road is a brilliant and heart rendering book. AJ just grabs your heart with his shy endearing ways and you yearn for him to find happiness and security. As for Kate with her brash confidence and yet underlying vunerableness I loved the way she wormed her way into the Rydell family and ranch. Yet another wonderful book and one I highly recommend.
This may be book 4 of the series but it made a great standalone read as well. AJ Reed is a cowboy through and through. His life growing up was anything but good and yet AJ managed to turn his life around and make a life for himself at the Rivers End Ranch. He meets his match in Kate Morgan a visiting city girl who just learned the owner is her half brother. This book has redemption, religion, romance, healing and a few surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat!
