Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. Vapor shouldn’t crave her caresses, steal her kisses, make her scream … make her scream with ecstasy. The cyborgs want her dead and they would question his loyalty if he didn’t kill her. The humans would shoot him on sight if he dared to touch her.
Their love is forbidden. Their desire could be lethal. One human and one cyborg will risk everything for a moment of passion.

Mira was a natural liar. She lied so much that it was sometimes hard for her to distinguish the truth. Her lies were meant to protect. Her lies were spoken in order to save lives. Her biggest lie was the mask she wore of Mira The Merciless. She had cultivated a cold and lethal armor to protect her and those she cared about from the Human Alliance. And only one being threatened her cool resolve… Vapor. He lurked in shadows, following her around, destined to kill her because what was one more human life really worth? But Vapor and his comrades would soon find out the truths behind Mira’s lies and together they would be stronger than they ever could have been apart.
When I’m looking for something to bring me out of a funk, something to read that will titillate my senses and give me thrills and tons of entertainment, I’ve found that the worlds that Cynthia Sax has created more than do the trick. There’s the edge of your seat action, the intense chemistry and hot sex between the main characters, and a plethora of side characters I can’t wait to learn more about. With Breathing Vapor, I found myself glued to the pages, unable to let go, even when I got to the end. These characters not only suffer, they suffer greatly. The horrors they face and have faced are tremendous. But I’m in love with the way this author builds up their triumphs. I feel like I’m a part of each of their wins. I’m off to read the next book, Crash and Burn because I cannot get enough of these cyborgs and their fight for freedom.
3 stars – I liked it
Vapor is determined to escape with his brethren but he is distracted by Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter. She is all he thinks about, but the other cyborgs want her dead. They consider her just as heartless as her father, but is it true.
Vapor, and the other cyborgs in this book, are a new group trying to escape from the Human Alliance. Vapor is considered one of the deadliest and is tasked with ending Mira’s life. But the more he finds out about her the less he can resist her. Vapor is a controlling alpha male. He doesn’t hesitate to punish Mira with a spanking when she lies or disobeys, which is often. He grew on me as the book went on, especially after he admitted his feelings.
“I want your honesty and your lies, your submission and your rebellion, your unbreakable spirit and your unending softness. I want to be your now and your future, the male you wake up with and the warrior you fight beside.”
Mira is living a lie. She has been hiding her true self for so long she no longer knows how to be normal. She is just seen as the merciless daughter of the Designer, which works in her favor. Vapor teaches her to trust others again. He also allows her to finally be her true self. I thought Mira was a strong woman who took a terrible situation and used it to her advantage as much as she could.
Overall, this was a steamy cyborg romance. I do hope we get more information about the Humanoid Alliance and the Homeworld soon. So far we have only gotten a few pieces of information about them.
Interesting dystopic world. Little kinky but very steamy. This is exactly how humans would react to cyborgs. Very well written. Bought a couple more because I loved the world and the sexy men and intelligent women.
It wasn’t a bad read but the author didn’t grab me into the characters the way I like to get me to care about them all that much; so many things were glossed over. Too much time was spent on the sex and not enough on character building and the sex got boring fast. A couple well placed, well done sex scenes is enough, make it about the STORY. I was looking for a bit different kind of ending, it wasn’t a bad ending, just not what I was hoping for. Usually I like this authors books better than this one.
Vapor is the best, and he has the best female. Love this book!
I love a heroine (Mira) who, as a child, manages to take a horrifying experience and turn it into a lifelong plan to help others. She does this while coming across as “Mira, the Merciless.” What strength of character!
I love the dialog and the cyborg thought process. It seems so ‘right’ for a logic driven being. Vapor is determined to help his brethren escape, but is irresistibly drawn to a human female; the Designer’s daughter, Mira. He may have to kill her. Betrayal is likely…until he gets to know her better. It’s wonderful watching their relationship blossom. Each provides something missing that enriches the other’s life. Such a satisfying story! It couldn’t be better!
Great series. Love them all.
An exciting and compelling story, this is a fantastic story that pulls you in from the start and holds you to the end. Vapor and Mira are wonderfully crafted characters that are adversarial at first then grow into something more as the plot is revealed. Mira is a dynamic individual who is surrounded by intrigue, subterfuge and immense isolation. All through the story you will be rooting for her to end up on top. The other supporting characters, the cyborg brothers, are a great way to deepen the story line. This is a series that you should definitely read from beginning to end!
