Sort of.When she buys a sealed box at an estate sale and cat-related circumstances cause that box to be opened, life in Nocturne Falls starts to go haywire. Jayne has no choice … Jayne has no choice but to figure out what she unleashed and how to recapture it.
But Jayne suspects the woman behind the box is hiding something. Something that could cause a town resident serious trouble. Or worse, to lose their life.
With the help of her two favorite guys, a sexy vampire and a hot summer elf, and a few new friends, Jayne tackles what feels like an impossible mission. And winds up almost iced herself.

I’m loving this little series I’m reading along with the Nocturne Falls series. In this one Jayne’s cat accidentally releases an imp who immediately escapes and starts doing all sorts of pranks on the town. With a little help from her two guys and some quirky townies it’s up to Jayne to recapture the little guy and put everything back to normal (or as normal as things can be in a town full of paranormal characters). 🙂
4 stars – It was really good
When Jayne Frost buys a sealed box at an estate sale she expects to be empty but instead she finds herself dealing with a mischievous imp who is wreaking havoc in Nocturne Falls. With the help of a sexy vampire, a hot summer elf, and a few new friends, Jayne sets out to find and stop the imp.
This was a fun mystery. The imp causes all kinds of havoc in Nocturne Falls which made for a fun read. Jayne has grown more confident in herself since the last book. She is starting to find her place in her kingdom. Before becoming manager she was shuffled around throughout the North Pole and never really enjoyed what she was doing. Now she has a job she loves, friends, and two beau’s. She has really grown from her introduction.
Jayne is still dating both Cooper and Greyson in this book. They have more meaningful discussion about their relationships in this book, including how they were both ok with Jayne dating both of them because it’s normal to have feelings for more than one person. I loved how accepting and supportive Greyson and Cooper both were with Jayne’s decision to continue to date both of them and see what the future brings. This love triangle doesn’t feel hostile or a race to see who can one up the other, and that is the only reason why I like it. I normally hate anything involving love triangles, but this one works for me because they discuss it and act like adults about it.
The continued theme of friendship in this book was wonderful. Jayne is gaining new friends with other members of the town and it really helps cement her place in the community. Also I love Birdie! She is a hoot. The mystery in this book was fun and slightly silly with the Imps hijinks, which just made for a great story.
Overall, this was a great story that had some great development in the characters. I am really enjoying the slow paced relationship and the exciting mysteries that Jayne faces.
Miss Frost returns for her second adventure in what proved to be a more light-hearted mystery, but one that still showed the darker underside of Nocturne Falls. The plot is extremely straightforward. Having moved to Nocturne Falls, Miss Frost visits an estate sale to help her furnish her apartment and purchases a decorative box that wasn’t supposed to be for sale. The box is knocked over in her apartment releasing an imp—a chaotic and mischievous spirit which begins wreaking playful but annoying havoc on the town that threatens to reveal their supernatural secrets. (For example, it’s hard to explain how the fire engine truck got on top of the fire station.)
In trying to figure out how to get the imp back in the box, Miss Frost is forced to learn about the woman who previously owned the box—a human who ran a business in magical artifacts and who doesn’t appear to have had a good deed in mind when she acquired the imp.
All in all, this is another fun book in the Nocturne Falls setting. Jane Frost continues to positively remind me of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum. She’s far more competent than Stephanie, but she’s gathering a group of zany collaborating friends and she has the same sort of man problems. The one thing that surprised me most about the novel was the reappearance of Frost’s ex-best friend, Lark. It makes me wonder if Ms. Painter is planning a future novel around the treacherous pal. I guess I’ll have to keep reading to find out.
Cute cozy mystery
It’s amazing how strange people look at you when you’re walking down the aisle at Walmart and let out a chuckle here and a giggle there. But that is exactly what I did and the culprit was this audiobook. I have decided it’s the only way to shop.
Jayne Frost, with the aid of her cat, Spider lets a magical being out of the box and loose on the unsuspecting citizens of Nocturne Falls. Let’s just say chaos ensues. Which is what had me laughing my way down the store aisles. In this, the second book of the Jane Frost series, we get to meet more residents of Nocturne Falls, as Jayne tries to recapture the mischief-maker before it destroys the town or reveals that most of the townspeople are not human. But no worries, Jayne has the help from her erstwhile suiters, Yep, that’s plural. She has the hotty summer elf, a long-lost love from her college days, and a sexy vampire who is all too happy to aid and abet Jayne in her not-so-legal means of sleuthing.
I was completely captivated throughout this book and look forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series.
Love Nocturne Falls – wish there was one in real life. This is a very fun original series
A fun, light hearted, original romp!
This series of books never disappoints. The characters are charming, the story pulls you in and makes you keep turning the page.
Love the addition to the nocturne falls world and that it’s a twist with a mystery
