This one may have been my favorite!! I still have two more to go so you never know! I love Sloan though! She came out of her shell so much in this book. It helped that she had a hottie like Jude to help with that! I cannot wait to read the next book!
Ahhhh the continuity of this series gets better and better.
Forbidden Promises is a suspenseful, well written Mafia romance. Sloan O’Malley has left her family behind in Boston, and moved to Callaway Rock for a fresh start. Spoiled Mafia princess that she is, though, she’s never had to work for a living, so starting off anew means doing something she’s never had to do: work. So, work she does, at a local diner, and she lives the life of the rest of us. Coming home at the end of the day, tired from a long day, knowing you have to go and do the same thing tomorrow. But, she’s free, free of the Irish Mafia lifestyle, with only contact with her brother Teague. Teague, the one who helped her start over.
Then there’s Jude, her mysterious, unapproachable neighbor. Her hot, sexy with a man bun neighbor, who has secrets she doesn’t know about. Secrets like he’s a hit man with little to no morals. A hit man with only one goal in mind: vengeance. Vengeance upon the people to killed his family. And Sloan plays into that quest for vengeance. So, he sets out to seduce her. And seduce her, he does, and their relationship is initially just physical. After all, he’s just using her and he happens to be attracted to her. But, something changes his plans and he’ll have to face the biggest choice of his life: love or vengeance? Which will win out?
I love Forbidden Promises. Although I haven’t read the other stories in this series, I was able to quickly pick up on what was going on, so I’d say Forbidden Promises is a standalone. I am curious about the previous stories, though, and plan on reading them all. If you like your Mafia romances with intrigue, action, suspense, and steamy, passionate love then I highly recommend you pick up Forbidden Promises!
I really liked Jude the man knew how to care for his woman, “this might not be forever, sunshine, but you’re mine for the duration. And I take care of what’s mine.” There was so much sexual tension between Sloan and Jude and that was after they sleep together, the man just ignites something in Sloan, “that’s the dumbest effing thing I’ve ever heard.” He grinned when she jerked on his hair. “I like you when you’ve missed me.” Even injured Jude has a big appetite, “…he shifted fully onto his back. “But if you’re so concerned, you can ride my ***k so I don’t move too much.” I loved this book, Jude was quite the alpha, he was demanding, at times unforgiving, but man did he have a soft spot for Sloan
Sloan O’Malley craves normalcy, it’s something she’s never had and something she has dreamed of having for a long time, and now it is finally becoming a reality. But of course change comes with major challenges, for the first time in her life she will have to find employment, and pay her own way, and as much as it scares her it also excites her too. Everything is falling right into place… that is until she meets her handsome, yet very grouchy, new neighbor.
Jude MacNamara likes a good challenge as much as anyone, but when he meets his new neighbor he instantly realizes she is most definitely a challenge he should walk away from, and never look back. But no matter how hard he tries to ignore the beauty living next door, she always manages to find a way to catch his attention.
This one was kind of a new one for me, I haven’t really delved into too many mafia novels, but I have to say I’m glad I decided to check this one out, it was quite the literary treat for me. The writing style was easy to fall right into, and the story line was very engaging and held me captive the whole way through. You can tell that the author put a lot of thought and care into the development of the characters, they were very well rounded, likable, and pretty unforgettable. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two, and having the opportunity to get a glimpse of fellow characters in the series, I am hoping to get back to them very soon.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I really enjoyed reading Forbidden Promises. This is the first book in the series that I have read. The characters and the story were great. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
