“Tristan and Kyla…..how I adore the…this trilogy took us up and down side to side and inside out! The twists and turns and never ending yummy darkness…”
“5 bloody stars! I don’t give them out easily anymore. I loved this story from the beginning and all I can say is… “What a perfect end to a wonderful series! Tristan and Kyla’s story was so different from the typical vampire romance. I know there was a lot of romance in this series but it wasn’t cheesy and if you have read it from the beginning you know that it took a lot of obstacles for their relationship to mature. My favourite thing about this series was that it wasn’t predictable and for me that was refreshing!”

Alright….first and foremost I am a self proclaimed vampire queen. I have easily read over 100 vampire books. I collect vampire books and own over 300(I have a huge tbr…I know) in paperback form. I have read everything from Twilight to Anne Rice.
That being said Nectar is, to date, my favorite vampire series I have read thus far! This is a DARK(ish) romance and may contain themes and scenes that make some uncomfortable but its oh so worth it. Tristan and Kyla are such an awesome couple. I adore them so. Tristan is so torn and possessive and just….amazing. Kyla has her own demons she is fighting. Together they are fire and gasoline.
I was so deeply entralled with this story and needing to know more about this vampire race that the Amazing DD Prince created that I constantly found myself wanting to do nothing more than tune everything out and drown myself in this world.
I found myself feeling so many emotions. Pain. Fear. Sadness. Joy. Just everything. I absolutely suggest this book for any vampire lover. Go in with an opened mind and prepare for it to be blown!
I can honestly say I have never read such an imaginative take on vampire lore before. Tristan is a delicious dominating alpha male who made my toes curl. Kyla’s reactions seemed realistic to me if I were to be kidnapped by vampires. There is plenty of drama to keep you happily reading.I liked that there was a real story unfolding while the romance was the center.I enjoy reading this author’s work.
There are not enough good things to say about this series. This trilogy introduced me to this writer and started my long distance love affair with all the words of this author.
If you are looking for sparkling vampires, or sugar and sweet then move along. However, if you want a vampire that pushes as far as he can to get what he wants, makes your panties combust, and elicits smells of a smorgasbord of all your favorite deserts then look no further because Tristan will own your heart and will set you on a course of wanting to beat him with a club to falling head over heels over and over again. Kyla will have you smiling with her snark want to smother you with a pillow, and then want to sign her up for sainthood for putting up with a moody volatile vampire.
I have read them all singularly and as part of the series. I highly recommend it.
This entire trilogy was the BEST vampire series that I have ever read! It takes all the known lore and adds some spins and twists that make it very unique and original. Tristan is every woman’s wet dream and so incredibly sexy. I can’t stress enough how fantastic this series is and would highly recommend it!
I’m a big fan of the writer DD Prince’s books. The only books still on my TBR pile was the trilogy ‘Nectar’ that’s about vampires. So when I was in the mood for a paranormal story, I decided to give this trilogy a try and I’m happy that I did. This wasn’t my first vampire story, I had read others vampire books but the writer DD Prince still managed to surprise me with some things. The basics stayed the same (you can’t have a vampire that doesn’t love a bite) but the vampire world and rules were little different than other stories. Kyla and Tristan’s story was very interesting, emotional, steamy and intense. It was dark but I, personally, found it balanced between not too dark and not too light. I think it’s perfect if you want to try a dark read but also nothing too dark. It does have a few triggers, so It isn’t for the tender-hearted.
For each book in this box I have writing a separately review.
BOOK 1 : NECTARr (4 stars)
This story is about Kyla Spencer, a human who is all alone in the world and who works very hard to build a better future for herself. But then one night, she is kidnapped outside of her workplace by two men. She wakes up in an unfamiliar bedroom where another stranger is watching her. A very handsome, alluring, arrogant, dominant stranger. During that night Kyla discovers that the man, whose name is Tristan, isn’t just a man. No, he’s a vampire! A vampire that doesn’t only want to have sex with her but he also wants to feed from her, by drinking her blood during sex! And that is the beginning of their story because once Tristan tastes her blood, he becomes obsessed with Kyla and her blood and he has no plans of letting her go. But Tristan may be a very dangerous vampire, the world where he lives in is even more dangerous. Can Tristan keep Kyla safe and can he convince her that they belong together?
I must say that it took me some time to really get into the story. I think that part of that was because for the last few weeks, I had read mostly sweet romance stories (and Nectar wasn’t sweet) and the other reason was because of the build-up of the story. Where other writers bombard you in the beginning of a new story with (sometimes too much) information and facts, here the opposite was the case. The vampire world was very slowly revealed to the reader (and also to the female main character Kyla) with a sentence here and there, very slowburn, so it took me some time to figure out the vampires and their world in this story. Because they felt a bit different than vampires in other stories that I have read. The vampires here didn’t have problems with sunlight, they didn’t need to sleep during the day, they could eat food and drink alcohol. They did have fangs (you can’t be a vampire without them), they were also strong, beautiful and moved very quickly and some also had other extra talents.
But where the story was slowburn the connection between Tristan and Kyla was the total opposite of that, it was very fastburn. Right, from the first bite Tristan knew that Kyla was special and he tried to convince her of that in very sexy ways. Tristan was a very possessive, intelligent, dominant alpha vampire but he also had a softer and sweeter side that he only showed to Kyla. You could really feel his struggle with those two sides inside him, the dangerous vampire side and the softer, emotional ‘human’ side and because of that I could forgive him many things (just like Kyla did). Kyla was also a very fascinating character. She was strong, hardworking, independent, sassy but she was also very guarded with her feelings. But the one thing that I really appreciated about her is that although she shared her opinions very clearly with Tristan and sometimes very heatedly, she also knew when to stop arguing/fighting, she wasn’t being difficult just to be difficult. No! She was a human woman kidnapped and held prisoner and was very conflicted about that and especially about her emotions for the sensual and sexy vampire who kept her in his bedroom. For me, she acted very humanly on her situation.
The connection between Tristan and Kyla was intense, sexual, deep and mysterious. The story was intense with steamy sex scenes where the dangerous vampire took what he wanted and needed from the human woman (sex and blood) but to me, it never really felt like rape. Because from the first sex scene you could already feel the connection between them. But I can understand if other readers think differently about it. In the end, I enjoyed the story.
BOOK 2 : AMBROSIA (3,75 stars)
Here, you get mostly Kyla’s POV in the story but now and then you also get a few thoughts from Tristan too. This story was darker then the first one.
In this story we learn a lot more of the vampire world and what a dangerous and predatory world it is! A lot of things become much clearer, not only for us (the readers) but also for Tristan and Kyla themselves, because it becomes more and more obvious that they are being manipulated by the royal vampires around them and that not everything is what it seems and everyone around them is keeping secrets and it becomes difficult to know who is a friend and who is an enemy.
This may be a vampire story but it also has a lot of suspense in it. Unlike other vampire stories that I have read in the past, the world created here is very dangerous, very predatory where a vampire can only rely on himself. The vampires with royal bloodlines only want two things, they want more and more power and ensure that their bloodline become better and stronger and they will do anything to accomplish that!
From the first book I have tried to predict what would come next in the story but Kyla and Tristan’s story is unpredictable, I just had to let got and enjoy their journey without thoughts of what could happen next. Their story is really a rollercoaster of emotions! The things that happens to Kyra (and Tristan) are very emotional and sometimes hard to read.
The connection between Kyla and Tristian is very intense, raw, all-consuming. It grows deeper with each book. I love both character very much. It’s wonderful to see how Tristan is fighting in his own dangerous way to protect Kyla and their love. It isn’t always easy because sometimes his vampire instinct takes over and that can be lethal. But he really tries for Kyla to be a better man/vampire.
Kyla is a very strong woman, that just like Tristan, she is fighting for their love. But it is extra hard for her because she’s a human fighting in a vampire world.
I found it very hard to rate this story. Because I really love the couple Tristan and Kyla but I felt less connected with the vampire world. It’s really predatory, dangerous and it’s very sad what happens with a turned vampire female. So tragic. In other vampire stories that I have read, there was almost always a brotherhood, a group of vampires that supported each other. And I missed that a bit in this story but that’s totally my personal view!! The writer did create a great and dangerous world, it was just a bit different than I was used too but that wasn’t a bad thing, just a different perspective of the vampire world.
BOOK 3 : ESSENCE (4,5 stars)
This story was divided into two parts, in the first part we got Tristan’s POV and in the second part we got Kyla’s POV. I’m very happy that the writer did it this way. It made me understand Tristan’s character and feelings so much more. You really could feel Tristan’s despair, pain, guilt and love in the first part. It was so emotional. I loved that! But don’t worry, Tristan may now be more ‘human’ sensitive then in the first book that if he needs to be, he can still be very vampire ruthless and very deadly. In the he is an alpha, dominant vampire that is very protective of his woman.
Of the three books, this one was my favourite. I think because the main focus of the story was again on the couple Kyla and Tristan and their feelings. it was a little bit less dark then the second book (or to me it felt that way) but the story was still very emotional and intense and with each secret revealed there came a hopefulness in the story too.
After what happened in the previous book I was very curious what would happen next and the writer did a wonderful job of giving us the answers needed to leave this vampire world with a good feeling. All my questions were answered (I loved the epilogue(s)) and they may still have a hard and difficult route ahead of them but I have all confidence in this couple.
The secondary characters in this story were very interesting. It was lovely discover new (family) characters and to get to know other familiar characters better.
The best book series I’ve ever read. I love the characters. I love the darkness. Oh, and I most definitely love the steam.
