Book three in the four book USA Today best selling Magnolia Steele Mystery series. When Magnolia Steele started digging into her father’s disappearance, she had no idea she’d find so much dirt. The secrets she unearthed have changed the official story of what happened to him. Everyone other than her now believes that he embezzled from a client with the help of several accomplices, one of whom got … of whom got greedy and killed the rest, but Magnolia’s convinced there’s more to it. She finds plenty of conflicting evidence, including startling links between several recent deaths and her father’s past.
As if she didn’t have worries enough, someone has hidden cameras in her apartment, and the stalker who’s been tormenting her amps up his campaign. She wants to trust someone with her secrets, but who? The police are out—there’s someone crooked on the force, and she has reason to believe it’s her maybe-boyfriend’s best friend—and even the people closest to her are suspect. Her sister-in-law and her sinfully attractive friend, Colt, both have agendas of their own; her mother is as tight-lipped as a vault; and in addition to having shady connections, her policeman suitor has a troubling secret.
Before she gets very far in her investigation, a murderer strikes again in Franklin, and this time the victim is someone she knows. The message is clear—step back and keep quiet—but to Magnolia Steele, it’s a call to action.

Call Back continues with more suspense, twists and shocks. I don’t recall reading a series when I’m so psychologically absorbed into like these. More pieces to plug into the giant complex puzzle. Denise is astonishing with how she can create something this large and complex. Details and all the events happening she doesn’t leave anything out. She gives the right amount of emotions throughout the book.
At a few parts I even had to set the book down because I was laughing so hard. Then I cried.
This series continues to get better and better.
Call Back is book three in the Magnolia Steele Mystery series by Denise Grover Swank. I can honestly admit that I never expected the level of involvement I would feel reading this series. The first book hooked me, but the second and now the third have me at the highest level of obsession. I can think of nothing else at this point. I need to read the final book to see how this all ends.
Magnolia wants to know what happened to her father. She continues to dig even though she is warned time and time again to leave the past alone. She and her father had been close before he disappeared. But every secret she uncovers proves that he was not the man she thought he was.
At the same time, Maggie is dealing with her mother’s illness. They have finally gotten to a point where they are sharing with each other. Each has regrets but more important now is how they use the time they have left.
Maggie struggles with knowing who to trust. Is Brady being honest? Is Colt? What about her sister in law, Belinda? Everyone says they care about her, they want to help her or protect her. But in reality, they all have their own agendas. They all have secrets of their own.
“Our life lessons often come with a bitter medicine, but we have to take it to be better people.”
If that’s not enough to deal with, a killer is watching her and lets her know on numerous occasions that he has her in his sights. She has no idea who it is, only that he’s always there, watching.
If I wasn’t reading today, I was thinking about reading. These characters are just about all I think about right now. Magnolia Steele is so brave. She has faced one threat after another and all it does is make her more determined to keep moving forward. I have no earthly idea how this is all going to turn out. So I have no choice but to keep on going with the fourth and final book, Curtain Call. I hope my heart can take it!
Magnolia Steele is one gutsy woman. She seems to attract dead bodies like flies. Life kicks her but she won’t stay down. A lesser woman could not handle all that life has dealt her. The author has done well at keeping me guessing and spacing out the suspense between each book in this series. I am so hooked on this series. I can’t wait to read book #4, the final book in this series. I have to know if Magnolia ever gets her happily ever after.
Would recommend the Magnolia Steel series, fantastic read, great characters! I only wish there were more books in the series!!
Wow! It’s so difficult to write a review for this book without spoilers, but I promise it’s worth it! We are back with Magnolia as more secrets are revealed and the mystery surrounding her father gets more in depth. This time, somebody has hidden cameras in Magnolia’s apartment and is watching her every move. Belinda and Colt are dealing with their own issues and she’s not sure who else she can trust. Especially when she is so suspicious of her “friend”‘s best friend.
This series is so good! I can’t wait to see how Denise is going to end it!
I couldn’t quit reading! Can’t wait to pick up book 4! I need to find out who her stalker is. Colt has me flushed, but he’s shady. People need to just come out and speak their mind / let out their secrets to the right people. But who can you really trust?! Magnolia isn’t one to back down and I don’t think she should. Let’s see what Curtain Call has in store!
Oh my goodness! I love this series and Magnolia so much. A true mystery series with so many interwoven questions and conflicts. Magnolia is investigating her father’s disappearance and finds out more than she bargained for. So many lies and secrets to work out and unravel. Everyone believes the story that he was embezzling a client’s money. but Magnolia does not buy it and feels there is more to this story than meets the eye. She finds cameras around her apartment and is trying to evade a stalker the closer she gets to uncovering the truth. Can she trust her brother and sister in law, Belinda? Or is Colt and Brady on her side? I have so many questions and cannot wait to read the next book!
Magnolia feels more alone than ever with not knowing who to turn to and who to trust. This story evolves in this book answering some questions but bringing up others. I couldn’t put it down! Great mystery and thrilling plot! I can’t wait to read book 4 to find out the rest of the story!
This series keeps getting better and better! Magnolia is a very strong woman who doesn’t take any stuff. Definitely a great series to read!
Call Back is the third book in the Magnolia Steele series and, once again, Denise did not disappoint. I love books that make me feel a range of emotions throughout and this book made me laugh, cry, excited, and even angry. I stayed very interested in the mystery while also being invested in the characters in the book. Many books that I’ve read can be too wordy or boring but Call Back was neither of those things. Denise does an excellent job at keeping the reader interested whether she is writing about the mysteries in the book or the characters and their relationships . I was able to read this book in less than 12 hours because I could not put it down. I really loved this book and I am looking forward to the fourth book in this series.
I just finished Call Back, it’s the third book in the Magnolia Steele mystery series, and it didn’t disappoint. I love Maggie, she’s been through so much and she’s still trying to figure out who she is and understand her past.
Call Back picks up where Act Two left off. Maggie was trying to uncover the past. She’s trying to find out what happened to her father while trying to come to terms with her own mysterious past. She still doesn’t quite understand what happened to her on the night of her graduation and she doesn’t understand why. But every time she seems to get any answers to that, or about her father, she seems to have more questions. She’s also getting answers to questions she didn’t even know she had.
Magnolia is trying to figure out who she can and cannot trust. She has her suspicions about everyone she comes in contact with. But will she be able to put her fears aside and trust the right people, people who will be able to help her instead of hurt her? Will Maggie be able to uncover the horrible secrets from the past before it’s to late? Will Magnolia be able to put her differences aside to fix her relationship with her mother before it’s to late?
The Magnolia Steele Mysteries are amazing! When you start reading you won’t want to put it down. So what are you waiting for?
This series is quickly becoming one of Denise Grover Swank’s best yet. Each book escalates and keeps you guessing. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, plot twist and you’re back at square one. It’s a suspenseful mystery that will still give you a few laughs and some action to keep you on your toes. I can’t wait to see how this will all go down in the final book. So many questions and I’m anxiously awaiting for all the answers.
The Magnolia Steele series gets better with each book and so do the mysteries. Through out the book I wanted to trust Colt and not sure about whether to trust Brady. Colt has been my choice to trust, I hope I am correct. Magnolia has come so far in these last three books. I have wanted to give Roy a good kick in the butt through all of the books but especially in this book. My heart broke in this book and am excited and nervous about the showdown that will be coming in the next book. I have so many questions still but am excited for the journey these past three books have taken me on and the finale in Curtain Call.
