Fredrik Gustavsson never considered the possibility of love, or that anyone could ever understand or accept his dark and bloody lifestyle—until he met Seraphina, a woman as vicious and blood-thirsty as Fredrik himself. They spent two short but unforgettable years together, full of lust and killing and the darkest kind of love that two people can share. And then Seraphina was gone. It’s been six … gone.
It’s been six years since Fredrik’s lover and sadistic partner in crime turned his world upside-down. Seraphina went into hiding and has eluded him ever since. Now, he’s getting closer to finding her, and an innocent woman named Cassia is the key to drawing Seraphina from the shadows. But Cassia—after sustaining injuries from a fire that Seraphina ignited—suffers from amnesia and can’t give Fredrik the information he desperately seeks. Having no other choice, Fredrik has been keeping Cassia locked in his basement as he not only tries to get her to recall her past—because she and Seraphina share it—but also to protect her from Seraphina, who clearly wants her dead.
But Cassia is a light in the darkness that Fredrik never believed existed. After a year subjected to her kindness and compassion, he finds himself struggling with his love for Seraphina, and his growing feelings for Cassia—because he knows that to love one, the other must die.
Will light win out over darkness, or will something more powerful than either further destroy an already tortured soul?

The Swan & the Jackal is the third installment in author J.A. Redmerski’s In The Company of Killers series. When I heard that she was continuing this series with Fredrik’s story I was so excited! Oh Fredrik…our violent, murderous, damaged, sadistic, serial-killing Fredrik. I loved seeing his character developed in this book. His character resembled the television character: Dexter to me. “I don’t kill innocent people. I, while although a sadistic bastard and torturer and killer, have limits and standards.”
This story is told in alternating perspectives between Fredrik and Cassia, a woman who he hopes can lead him to his ex-wife Seraphina who betrayed him. Fredrik and Seraphina’s relationship is very interesting. They are cut from the same sadistic cloth and she helped (and hurt) Fredrik in many ways. Although the betrayal happened years ago, he will never stop looking for her. And even he doesn’t know what he will do once he finds her.
I can’t reveal anymore of this story or the dynamics between the characters, but I can say that there is a huge plot twist that made me absolutely freak! Also, Victor and Izabel make more than a few appearances in this book. If you enjoyed the other two books in In The Company of Killers series then you will love this one too!
5 TWISTED, DAMAGED, ADDICTIVE STARS!
Holy wow, I totally LOVED this book!! Dark, raw, shocking, and utterly addictive
J.A Redmerski writes some of the best dark romance out there. Her writing is strong and compelling.
The Swan and the Jackal, the third, and the best, in my personal opinion, book in “In the Company of Killers” series. One of the best books I have ever read in my life!
Fredrik Gustavsson he’s mysterious, and he’s got a dark past and a sadistic appetite for torturing and killing people. He’s easily the darkest and most damaged of the main characters. Know Jackal,
The Specialist. Fredrik is the go-to torturer in Victor’s new Order (a contract killer organization).
It’s been six years since Seraphina went into hiding and has eluded him ever since. Now, he’s getting closer to finding herFredrik was very much in love with his wife, Seraphina.
Seraphina was like him. They both lived in the dark side, and Fredrik found his match in her.
Fredrik determines that the key to finding Seraphina and stopping her evil game is Cassia, suffering from amnesia and kept prisoner. Might think this is your run-of-the-mill captive story, where the prisoner has Stockholm Syndrome to the extreme and falls in love with her captor. But it is so much more than that.
I never expected to feel Fredrik’s pain, but it was so palpable, that my heart felt so heavy,
This dark, sick, twisted man has stolen my fucking heart!!! I need him. I love him.
Can people like him get a happy end?
Everything seems to step up a notch. The violence and gore, the passion and chemistry. The dark and gritty mind messing. It’s all full on and extreme, but amazing and such an totally addicitve read.
The Swan and The Jackal will challenge you. It will make you uncomfortable. But, most of all, it will make you feel . My gosh, did this book play with me. And, if I am to be completely honest, I liked it. A lot.
These books are must-reads on my list and I recommend them for all readers.
