From the author of the New York Times bestseller All the Missing Girls–the gripping story of a journalist who sets out to find her missing friend, a friend who may never have existed at all. “Think: Luckiest Girl Alive, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl” (TheSkimm). When Leah Stevens’ career implodes, a chance meeting with her old friend Emmy Grey offers her the perfect opportunity to start over. … Emmy Grey offers her the perfect opportunity to start over. Emmy, just out of a bad relationship, convinces Leah to come live with her in rural Pennsylvania, where there are teaching positions available and no one knows Leah’s past.
Or Emmy’s.
When the town sees a spate of vicious crimes and Emmy Grey disappears, Leah begins to realize how very little she knows about her friend and roommate. Unable to find friends, family, a paper trail or a digital footprint, the police question whether Emmy Grey existed at all. And mark Leah as a prime suspect.
Fighting the doubts of the police and her own sanity, Leah must uncover the truth about Emmy Grey–and along the way, confront her old demons, find out who she can really trust, and clear her own name.
Megan Miranda delivers a deep, dark and twisty novel just as thrilling as her New York Times bestseller All the Missing Girls.more
I loved this book. And I was intrigued by how it made me think about how do we know what is true.
I only read a few chapters but I want more!
I would love to read more from this book as I got hooked from the first page.
It is a new to me author but I really enjoyed the writing style and I can see easily how i will probably read this book in one sitting as I don’t know where to go from here, there are so many possibilities for the story to take us on a rollercoaster of emotions for sure.
They say you do not know the person next to you in a lifetime even if you live together and this story might be another example how much we let ourselves trust the friends that come into our lives and we think we know everything about them but there are always small pieces of us that we won’t share with anyone no matter how much that person means to us. Looking forward to read more of this story
OK read, not a page turner. A little rambling jumping from character to character
This author writes some of the best descriptions and scenes I’ve read in long time. I’m talking about a beautiful turn of phrase that can have you seeing, smelling and feeling everything from the sweater being worn and the scent of winter air.
We all make mistakes. You’ve heard the term “fight or flight”. If after making a big mistake you found yourself becoming a “runner” and wanting to start somewhere anew… would you? Moving from a City to the sticks in effort to find her fresh start the main character Leah Stevens actually brings along a former roommate from her college days along for the journey. Or did her roommate bring her along?
There were places where the tension should have been ramped up. I kept waiting for it. I’m uncertain if the author telegraphed the ending or I just got there too quickly.
The writing is fantastic and I will definitely read her next books…..I say books because I do look forward to reading more from Megan Miranda.
The description was better than the book. The story and writing weren’t absorbing enough to hold my interest. The book dragged, and finally arrived at a predictable ending. Not a book I would recommend.
It was very intriguing and just when I thought I had it figured out, something happened to change my thoughts. Loved the ending.
Unexpected events in this book, a thriller type book that will have you reading faster to try and figure out the outcome! If you’re a Gone Girl fan, you will enjoy this one.
I haven’t read this book. I want to had it to my wish list but I don’t get the option to go back!
Suspenseful
I would read it again in the future. Exciting without overuse of gore or sex.
Its awesome
The Perfect Stranger is my first read by author, Megan Miranda. This is a story about secrets, lies, and past lives. I do love the author’s writing style. Megan Miranda is good at weaving a tale of suspenseful mystery. The cover art for this book was very cool.
I felt the pace was good but throughout most of the book I was just confused. Maybe it was just me but I struggled to keep everything straight. I didn’t care for any of the characters which makes it hard for me to get into a story. Overall I thought the book was okay and I would read more written by the author.
Three out of five stars for The Perfect Stranger!!!
Thank you Megan Miranda, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book to read.
Really enjoyed reading this…nothing was what it seemed.
Any time a review says a book is “the next Gone Girl or Girl on the Train” I take it with a grain of salt. It seems like every suspense book with a female protagonist gets labeled that way. However, I love a good suspenseful novel. So, this isn’t Gone Girl but it’s pretty good. It was slow to start but sped up toward the end, and I stayed up to finish it. There’s more than one twist which is always nice. The main character isn’t perfect or all that lovable. I liked that the author did that as it gave the character more depth. It’s an easy read and worth it.
Pretty good story, kept me guessing until the end. Character development was weak.
This was not one of her better books but I still enjoyed it.
I was so blown away by All The Missing Girls, that I might have had too high of expectations for this. Leah is a disgraced reporter who has a chance encounter with an old roommate and decides to start life anew far away from the scandal of her hometown Boston. However, when a women is brutally attacked in her new small town, and Leah discovers her roommate is missing, her desire for a fresh start turns into a nightmare of a search for the truth. This was suspenseful and kept me guessing, but not as engaging or original as Megan Miranda’s previous thriller.
