In a glittering underwater world, where danger lurks behind beauty and power…
For the past twelve months since her parents’ death, seventeen-year-old Miranda Sun has harboured a dark secret — a secret that has strained the close relationship she once shared with her older sister, Lauren. In an effort to repair this broken bond, Miranda’s grandparents whisk the siblings away on a secluded beach … secluded beach holiday. Except before Miranda gets a chance to confess her life-changing secret, she’s dragged underwater by a mysterious stranger while taking a midnight swim.
Awakening days later, Miranda discovers that she’s being held captive in a glittering underwater city by an arrogant young king named Marko.
Nineteen-year-old Marko intends to marry Miranda in order to keep his crown from falling into the sinister clutches of his brother, Damir. There’s only one problem. Miranda is desperate to return home to right things with her sister and she wants nothing to do with Marko. Trying to secure her freedom, Miranda quickly forms an alliance with Robbie — Marko’s personal guard. However, she soon discovers that even underwater, people have secrets too, dangerous secrets…

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I instantly liked the main character Miranda and felt for her as she went through this ordeal. I love that she is a curvy girl, not rail thin like a lot of YA books describe the main characters. The side characters were also enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book .
I couldn’t put it down..ended up buying the series! Even my friends bought it. Loved them all!
Captivate was extremely compelling with a need to read more. I need more.
I found it interesting…not realistic but I like the fantasy.
Kidnapped to a strange new world at the bottom of the sea….to help a foreign race repopulate. Very intriquing.
I bought the whole series.
It felt really juvenile and poorly written
I read this book and had to go immediately buy the other 2 in the trilogy. You can’t just read this and expect to be done. It leaves it wide open and you have to keep reading. Some of the characters really irked me in the book, but I still loved it and couldn’t stop reading. I read all 3 books in less than a week.
Have to admit I was a little disappointed with this book. It was an original story, and plot was interesting, just not enough to lure me into wanting to read the next two books in the series. A little too much insecurity & low self esteem going on with the main character, Miranda. Got old in a hurry. I prefer my heroines to have stronger characters.
I absolutely loved the entire series. I truly wish there is more. I mean what about Sylvia. Maybe she comes back after discovering one of the chutes near the new relatives in Croatia that were just introduced. I need more….. I crave more. What about Nana and Pop and Lauren and Robbie and Lily? Please give me more!!! What happened to the city? Paint me a picture!
Unrealistic love story and a main character the author tries too hard to make relatable to the reader.
Really enjoyed this book! Twists, turns, and romance. Can’t wait to read the next in the series!
It was a very original plot. The characters were interesting. Forcing someone to marry someone does not work well when the young lady is used to making her own decisions. That made the ending more believable.
The book lacked development of its characters and the writing was not descriptive.
The story was different from those that I’d read recently, so caught my eye and was worth it.
After reading the book summary for this book I was pretty excited. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy reading about someone being kidnapped by people who live under the sea and forced to marry their king? But sadly I was doomed to be disappointed.
I firmly believe that characters are what make or break a book, and so the most prominent reason I didn’t enjoy this book very much was the characters. I felt like they were really distant and not entirely realistic, not because it was written in a strange point of view, but because it seemed a little robotic. Multiple times I found that Miranda’s reactions to what she saw and experienced were just not realistic or terribly true to her character.
I believe that if the characters are spot on than you can get away with a lot of weird and mysterious scenes, but Captivate didn’t seem to have the characters to get away with the far-fetched rituals and similar incidents.
This does not mean that I absolutely hated the story, I just wasn’t enthralled and couldn’t seem to find the rhythm in this book. If you want to form your own opinion then read the book, don’t just take my word for it but…. don’t go into it with too high expectations.
