Edited by Leslie Mitchell at G2 Freelance Editing and re-released 8/20/13. What do you do when the one you love is also you worst enemy? Trapped in a destiny she does not want, Cassie finds herself lost and adrift, until he walks into her life, turning it upside down and awakening her in ways that she never dreamed possible. Cassie is stunned and devastated to learn that she belongs to a long … that she belongs to a long line of vampire slayers known as The Hunters. A murderous rampage by a group of elder vampires has left the Hunter line decimated and the remaining Hunters scattered around the world. With her friends Chris and Melissa’s aid, Cassie struggles to rid the world of the monsters that murdered her parents. Though Cassie knows it is her fate, she chafes against her heritage, and is resentful of the shortened lifespan that has been placed upon her by the circumstances of birth. Struggling to get through every day, Cassie finds herself simply going through the motions of living. That is, until Devon arrives. Tall, dark, and mysterious his arrival turns the school, and Cassie’s life, upside down. Fighting against her fierce attraction to him, and the chaos he represents in her carefully ordered days, she is irresistibly drawn to him. Though worried that what she truly is will place Devon in danger, she is unable to fight her feelings for him. He is the one light, and the only source of hope she has in a world that revolves around death and fear. What she does not know is that Devon has some dark secrets of his own, secrets even more frightening and dangerous than hers. Secrets that threaten to tear them apart forever.

I couldn’t put this series down. Loved the characters and relationships. There are a few grammatical errors throughout but I just blew by them.
A great read. Bought the other books in this series, too.
Interesting vampire fantasy with good dramatic tension between good and evil.
Kindred is the first book in the Kindred series and this was just a great introduction into this new world. I was just drawn into this world and I just fell in love with these amazing characters. I can’t wait to read more wonderful stories in this series.
Audiobook Version Review
Good performance from the narrator. It is such a lively story I think it would have better more lively with multiple narrators to really bring out the characters more, but it is great just as it is now. I won’t spoil the end for future listeners but this story really draws you into it and its a cliffhanger ending so be sure to get that next book.
You see things from Cassie and Devon’s point of view in just the right way. Cassie is a teenager with teen thoughts and concerns, but with deadly consequences to deal with at the same time. That’s a lot of pressure for a young woman.
This is the first book of five in the Kindred Series, a YA Vampire Romance. The characters are great and intriguing. Cassie, a hunter, is strong and determined. Devon, a vampire, is attractive, and protective. I liked Cassie’s friends, Chris and Melissa. The storyline is great, and intriguing. The story ends with a cliffhanger. Overall, the plot is easy to follow, and the characters easy to like. If you like vampire romance, you will like this one. Sarah Puckett did a great reading of this story. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Ashes.
Never could get into the book
good writing & story
It was good, but I don’t like a book that makes you buy the next one to se what happens.
interestingly addictive. I have already bought the second book and will buy the next one. Read it. Different vampire type book completely. High school kids and actiivities and jealousy. Fresh new look at things.
Definitely for a teenager. What happened to the ending?
Wish it didn’t end so abruptly. I devour books and enjoyed the twists and turns of this storyline.
Very disappointing, more like a teenagers book
I love everything this author has written!
I liked Cassie & Devon’s story as much with this audiobook as I did when I first read the story 5 years ago. Some on Amazon eluded that they see a Twilight & Buffy similarity…apparently they never read or listened to the stories. No Buffy with fantastical demons (I could go on but why bother). No timid Bella with a glittery vampire and what felt like forced attraction. Hunters & instant attraction yes, but different storyline and characters and plenty of fighting. Anyway, good story with interesting & attention grabbing storyline from the start. The characters have depth and are likable. The narrator did a nice job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really wanted to like this book because I actually loved other books by this author. However, I just could not bring myself to finish it. There is nothing wrong with the main character (Bethany) being a little self-conscience but I hated how she thought the world of everyone else and her self-esteem was little to none. Another thing was that once she started discussing or thinking about something it went on for quite a while dragging the story out. I could not take any more of her comparing Cade to Bret; what she felt for them, how they made her feel, etc. she definitely killed the book for me.
