Wow!! I absolutely loved every part of this book. I am a huge fan of Susan May Warren’s books anyway. I have read several of her books and have enjoyed every one of them. But, this one was better than even my expectations were. It was well written with developed characters with real emotions and fears and concerns. I love that her books are clean and are based on Christian values but that not all the characters demonstrate those same values and even those that do have flaws that are real. They make mistakes and seek redemption and sometimes lash out at God when things don’t turn out the way they want them to.
Kacey Benjamin had grown up in Mercy Falls, Montana. They loved each other but when hard times came they didn’t listen to their hearts and let others influence them and they let each other down.
It is now thirteen years later and they have both returned to Mercy Falls and are thrown back together. Kacey is a hero having flown helicopters in many missions in the Middle East but she is reeling from an accident and the loss of several soldiers on a mission. Ben is a successful musician who now lives in Nashville but has come home to help his father after his father was almost killed in a helicopter accident. They begin to learn that things that they had believed were not always the way they had been. The betrayal and anger they had once felt begins to melt away as they learn more about the circumstances surrounding the time when their relationship ended.
Susan May Warren always delivers a fantastic book. Wild Montana Skies is fabulous. Her writing is uncomplicated, full of raw emotion, thought-provoking and so heartfelt.
The theme of redemption in this book is quite powerful. The forgiveness that needs to occur amongst multiple characters in the book is eye-opening and makes me think about the hidden pain/hurt that all of us carry that only God can heal as long as we’re willing vessels of and for forgiveness.
Kacey and Ben are such amazing, broken people needing love, grace, and forgiveness. On the outside, they’re two wildly successful people – Kacey a bronze star Blackhawk pilot and Ben a country music heartthrob. But deep inside, they both carry hurts from their past mistakes and need to find the faith and courage to overcome them. The love they share is incredibly deep and intense and I found my heart breaking a little every time something went wrong in their attempt at a second relationship (and believe me, Kacey and Ben go through A LOT in this book).
As for Ian and Sierra, the author does a fantastic job dangling that proverbial carrot in front of the readers. If you read “If Ever I Would Leave You”, the prequel novella to the Montana Rescue series, you’re probably holding your breath to see what happens to these two, as I am. Well, we will need to hold our breaths a little longer. Though Ian and Sierra (especially since Sierra is Kacey’s best friend) have supporting roles in this story, their story is far from over…..I’m on to Rescue Me, book 2 in this series, hoping that I can release my breath!!
I received a digital advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions and comments are solely my own.
I loved this book so much and am trying to read more books like this and when I was reading it I COULD NOT put it down!
3 1/2 out of 5 stars
This was definitely a page turning adventure. The characters were flawed and the inspirational thread was well woven through.
Note: I received this book complimentary in a giveaway. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
There are a lot of problems to be worked out between 2 old flames. The story is filled with a lot of action, saving lives in Montana floods, using gifts and abilities that each of them have.
Enjoyed this clean romance book. Recommend read
I love Susan’s writing. Draws you in from the first page til the last. Makes you want to read everything she’s ever written! Romance, suspense, adventure all rolled into one!
I bought this book a while ago and apparently decided it didn’t need to be read right away….shame on me. I needed some action and romance in my life, so I decided to prop it open and see what it was about.
LOTS OF VERY GOOD THINGS APPARENTLY.
This is different than her Christiansen family series, obviously. There’s a lot more lingo, plane crashes, violence, etc. in this series, and her corresponding series. Which is honestly great, because she writes intensity and action so well.
And redemption stories. Good golly, I’m a sucker for those. This was a hard-core one, and I honestly loved every second of it. I really liked the theme of Psalm 23, and then the words that Kacey and Ben both heard from family and friends about WHY they came home. To God. That message was clear throughout the book, and I liked that. Loved it.
And there’s nothing better than a man in cowboy boots, jeans, and a Stetson
I loved the entire Montana Rescue series!
Ok, I know I’m late to the game, but this entire series has been on my shelf for years and it was time to get started. Needless to say, after finishing them all, I now feel a compulsion to read everything Susan May Warren! This was a world I did not want to escape from, and I had such a large book hangover when it was all done! I’ve also lived in Montana and visited Glacier National Park on multiple occasions, so this had a touch of nostalgia for me.
On the topic of Wild Montana Skies: Wow! What a place to start this series. Kacey is such a deep character. I felt like just when I thought I knew her, she surprised me all over again. An outcast and a war hero make for a gritty girl you come to love. Ben is a charmer that is easy to love despite his faults, and I love the role they both play throughout the series (That is the joy of reviewing after reading the entire thing. I couldn’t help it, I couldn’t put them down!!) Also, don’t get me started on Chet! I love that wise mastermind. He makes the overall arc of this series work.
If true love, overcoming mistakes, heroic rescues, faith, and a touch of the unknown are your style, The Montana Rescue series is for you. RUN don’t walk, to your local bookstore or library to grab Wild Montana Skies, and get ready for one of the best series you’ve read in some time.
True love can overcome the mistakes of the past if we just trust God to help us forgive. This book captured mistakes and forgiveness in a beautiful way.
I really enjoyed this book. There are several story lines which are well-woven together. I like that the author keeps things interesting, keeps things moving, without making it confusing. There is tension, suspense, romance, and adventure….all the makings of a great story!
Loved this book!!
Love this kind of book
A great book, and a great series. Love this author.
Susan is a great author. I’ve read almost all of her books.
At first this story reminded me of a rehash of a Karen Kingsbury story; two young sweethearts, parents lying, a broken engagement, and then years of living lonely and hurt until a chance encounter brings them together again. But this story grew on me and I found that by the end I couldn’t put the book down! The ongoing secondary story line weaves well into the story but is left open to continue in book 2. This is a good story, but I would recommend starting with the prequel novella, If Ever I Would Leave You.
