Cast out by his own family after a wolf’s bite infects him, a young thirteen-year-old boy is forced to roam the streets and fend for himself. In a world of Humans and Others, he belongs to neither. No longer considered Human, but nor a purebred Other, a race of powerful supernatural beings, he will be unwanted and hunted by both. Danger lurks at every turn. Young, vulnerable and afraid, he tries … afraid, he tries to come to terms with the physical changes taking place in him while at the same time trying to find a way to survive.
In a menacing world filled with threats and hate, is there any hope of salvation for this orphaned fledgling?
Please note, this is a Society Short.

The Rise of the Phoenix: Society Series, Book 0, my first read from author Mason Sabre. I got this back in July hadn’t got around to yet. 71-pages/1-hour 43-minutes. I was given the Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing. Gary Murrell’s accented narration was the best part of this read, I’m not really into werewolves, but don’t let that discourage you. I doubt I’ll read more from this author due to the subject. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
OMG! This my first time one of Mason Sabre stories. This is a first book in The Society series. I could not put it down. I had to know what will happen next. This story is about Phoenix. You will see what Phoenix went through and how he got to where he is at today. My heart went out to Phoenix so much. I was really to scream at those Humans. This is a MUST HAVE!! I HIGHLY recommend this one. Keep up the awesome work Mason! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I received a copy of “The rise of the Phoenix” (A Society Series Companion Story book 0) by Mason Sabre in exchange for my honest review and here it is. The rise of the Phoenix is a prequel to the society series. It gives you an insight as to how he is who he is. At the same time, you get hook in the story wanting to know what happens next. It is a quick read with great information that sets up the story. I recommend reading it before starting the series, even if you can read them stand alone in what ever order you like. I like to read them in order, to fallow the story of each character and know what their talking about that something was mention in other books.
In this tragic and heart wrenching tale, the boy finds himself in the space between. No longer human, but not quite other, he’s thrown from his home and left to survive on his own.
The Rise of the Phoenix is a brilliant introduction to the bigotry, hatred, and general lack of empathy felt when very different groups converge. Sabre masterfully details the early stages of self-discovery, cast against a harsh and unforgiving landscape. A beautifully written piece of fiction, Phoenix resonates with truths of a world that lacks acceptance and understanding.
The book starts out at a Mother’s funereal, but one of her young sons is not allowed to participate. They don’t even want him there saying that it his fault he killed his mother. After the service he goes home. His drunken father beats him up, throws him out of the house and says he is no loner his son. The boy is 13 and you can tell he loved his mother, it all started with a flat tire and when his mother and the man who lived nearby went to change the tire, the son stayed in the house with the man’s son. The man’s son was what everyone around called others, and he asked the boy if he wanted to know what it felt like? At 13 all kids are courious, so he took off his coat and sleeve and let the other boy bite him, not realizing the significance of that one pour choice. It is very said for a 13 yr old to hold so much responsibility. We need as the walks long distances. This is going to be a GREAT Series.
Mason Sabre is new to me and I’m now hooked. I must find out what happens to the thirteen year old boy who was outcast by his family and friends because he was bitten and is no longer human but an “other”.
This might be short but it’s captivating and keeps your attention from the beginning. It draws you in where you’re needing more.
Really good introduction to this series. Totally a worthwhile read.
The Rise of the Phoenix is a heart wrenching short story of a 13yr old boy is left on his own; shunned from his own family for the death of a loved one; thrown to the wolves with nowhere to go.
“You’re dead to me. I will never accept one of your kind into my life. Do not ever come back here.”
He starts his journey in search for something… a place where he belongs now that he is no longer a human but considered an “other” with no direction and not willing to allow the beast inside him to grow, to feed & to control him.
“He stood there, absolutely still, and let his eyes roam over the path, searching for answers. But the problem was he didn’t know what the questions were.”
This author has a way with his words; giving you the ability to feel every emotion with the character. I’m excited to see how this story continues and if this young boy will find a place of his own; a place where he belongs.
Where to begin…this was such a gut wrenching story! WOW!! My emotions were all over the place. I was so very sad and beyond angry, but at the very end I was left with HOPE!! After reading this, I told myself to make sure my kids knew how much I loved them and how proud I was to be their mom! This was so much more that a paranormal story. I adored this book and I’m looking forward to reading CADE!!
I loved this book. It made me want to read the next book to see what happened ….. which I bought when I finished this one. I loved Phoenix. The story made you feel for the main character which is the sign of a good book. A great beginning to the series.
