“An addictively satisfying, deeply amusing, dirty-ass masterpiece.”—William Gibson
“A sharp-edged urban fantasy, drenched in blood and cynicism, tipping its hat to Sam Peckinpah, Raymond Chandler, and the anti-heroes of Hong Kong cinema….A bravura performance.”—San Francisco Chronicle
“I couldn’t put it down.”—Charlaine Harris
Sandman Slim has arrived—a wild and weird, edge-of-your-seat … has arrived—a wild and weird, edge-of-your-seat supernatural roller-coaster rider that propels author Richard Kadrey to the forefront of the fantasy, thriller, and a host of other literary genres. This spellbinding, utterly remarkable tale of a vengeful magician/hitman’s return from hell is part H.P. Lovecraft, part Christopher Moore, part Jim Butcher, and totally, unabashedly dark, twisted, and hilarious.

Kadrey has a twisted, sardonic mind and a sailor’s mouth. His dark, tormented characters had me laughing out loud all the way through.
Really enjoyed this book! Classic and entertaining!
Interesting . I am looking for more like this.
Loved this series
Snarky and funny, if I have to keep the description to just a few words. I generally borrow books from my library, because I am cheap. I love these books enough that I am currently buying them when they are on sale.
Stark is the bad guy who plays the good guy that you root for, in this fast paced, supernatural, funny, violent, B movie, full of magic type novel.
After escaping from Hell, after 11 years of just trying to stay alive in the arena, Stark is back in L.A. to kill those in the Circle who sent him there and murdered his Alice. Stark is not an all too …
Richard Kadrey’s “Sandman Slim” series is what I’d call Hardboiled Urban Fantasy Noir. For a hardcore supernatural tough guy, you can’t really beat an angel-human half-breed former magician and movie buff who’s spent a decade as a supernaturally enhanced gladiator fighting cage matches in Hell, and becoming a champion, who finally finds a way to …
I’ve enjoyed the entire series, but Sandman Slim, Book the First, is the best place to start. Urban fantasy noir filled with grit, snark, magic. A netherworld turned upside-down, and an antiheroic protagonist by the name of James Stark, aka Sandman Slim
You might be able to jump in anywhere in the series, but the mythology and backstory are dense …
If you like edgy urban fantasy this book is a blast.
I love this book so much. James Stark is the poster boy for reluctant hero. He’ll save the world but he’ll hate it. I could wax poetic about Stark and my huge heart eyes for him. He’s filled with flaws, self-hatred to rival Dean Winchester, and an alcoholic with a heart of…well he has one and that’s what counts.
I love the Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey. Every year, I eagerly await the newest entry to the series. This year, I went back and reread every book before the new release and it surprised me how much I enjoyed it. If you like Supernatural (I swear the writers of that show have to be fans), but are sick of Sam, try this. It’s Dean with …
Dark and disgusting in the best way. Loved sandman slim, the character was wonderfully horrible. Lots of action, terrific writing, cool story line. More!
