Favorite Quotes:
So she wasn’t afraid of him, and she certainly didn’t care that his wasn’t the prettiest face in the room… All she cared about right now was the fact that he had helped them, not once, not twice, but three times going on four. Her heart swelled with gratitude for this strange, gruff giant who’d been her savior today.
Every time, without exception, kindness made her cry faster than meanness…
She was so effortlessly bright and beautiful, his breath caught. It seemed like, if she pricked her finger, she wouldn’t bleed red – she’d bleed sunshine.
“That’s about all I know about wine too. It’s either red or white.” She took a look at her glass. “Really it’s yellow. But I guess that would make people think of pee, so they say white instead…”
I was unplanned, and my parents were busy on the farm. Ryan was… he was my sweet place, you know… My hugs and kisses and smiles and songs and ‘I love yous.’… My sweet place.
For now, all she knew was this: You were meant for me. And I was meant for you. And I will never let you go.
My Review:
Colt was painfully lonely, had a volatile temper, stoic countenance, and an unfortunate childhood, yet he hid a responsible nature and a kind and tender heart. While Verity was proud, and doing her best – she was existing on fumes, and living a life of quiet desperation while trying to provide for her disabled sibling. Colt did not want to see their neediness or acknowledge their destitution or personal pain, something he knew all too well. Yet even during his self-cautioning to keep moving and not get involved – to his repeated consternation – he could not walk away or leave them vulnerable. Dark Sexy Knight was a relevant, heart-squeezing, eye-burning, throat-constricting, and deeply moving tale. Hot tears stung my eyes and I was periodically and unexpectedly required to put down my kindle to catch my breath. Ms. Regnery has mad skills. I have now read close to half of her Goodreads listing and covet the remainder while adding them to my TBR.
Dark Sexy Knight is the newest release in Katy Regnery’s Modern Fairytale Series. These are all standalone books, loosely inspired by a fairytale, and this one happens to be a very adult The Legend of Camelot. This is a very sweet love story that reminds me very much of the first book I ever read by Katy Regnery (The Vixen and the Vet) and still remains my favorite, but this one comes so close to at least a tie.
Colt Lane is the Viking Knight at a medieval dinner theater The Legend of Camelot. Colt has Nordic good looks, but is dark and brooding, edgy and all male. A very sexy beast! He was blond and gray-eyed. His face was rough and so was his voice to the point he growled when he talked. His body seemed almost built for fighting. But he was the very definition of a loner, and a lone wolf with no interest of ever joining a pack.
Colt was reluctantly, but given no choice, in attending a job fair to recruit new employees for the dinner theater, where he had worked for over the last 5 years. He would have rather been anywhere else, when he watched two people walk in that had reeked of neediness. She was a tiny little thing, dressed simple with light blonde hair up in a ponytail, and had a look of vulnerably and desperation about her. Her companion was taller by at least a foot and a half, and his posture was slumped and his eyes downcast, and what caught Colt’s attention the most was that she seemed to be in charge. He kept telling himself not to get involved, but he really was a knight in shining armor, because that is exactly what he did.
That is how our reluctant hero becomes the champion to Verity Gwynn, and her special needs brother Ryan, on the worst day of her life, when they are evicted, must find jobs or risk being separated. Colt who thinks he is the furthest possible thing from a white knight in real life, comes to their rescue, and forever cements his place in Verity’s heart.
After you finish this wonderful story that I highly recommend you read, please take the time to read Katy’s “A Letter To My Readers” that is at the end of the book. This book is special to her and explains what all of us who know “special-needs” people already know.
Incredible
Katy has officially place herself in my “always buy” list. I will always purchase books this woman releases because they are beautifully written. She has a magical way with words and I believe her fairytales show this magic more than any of her other series. Which isn’t to say her other books aren’t amazing, because they are, they just don’t take on that magical note that these do.
Colton Lane is dark, sexy, brooding, and managing a disorder that has almost consumed him.
Verity Gwynn is a sweet, pretty, caring woman who takes care of her special needs brother.
These two collide at a career fair and the rest is history. Colton may have a bad-boy rep, but that doesn’t stop him from taking care of Verity and her brother. It doesn’t stop him from wanting to date the sweet, lovely Verity.
I don’t even have the words needed to describe how much I really liked this couple. The story is like every little girls’ fariytale come true. Colt is her knight in shining armor and Verity is the damsel in distress.
“We are a fucking fairy tale.
Read like a grade schooler wrote the story. I could not listen or read.
