This book is a work of art-love, lies, deceit, death and so much more. Just when you think you have it figured out another twist is thrown at you and it changes everything. Loved how this book came together and gave each character a chance to be the narrator (even though it was hard at times to keep it straight). Also loved how it brings the story to a full loop and some closure to the whole series. Can’t wait to see what is next for the Maddox brothers!
This book is the last in the Maddox Brothers’ series but is a stand-alone book. The first book, Beautiful Disaster, was great, so I picked up the next, featuring another brother, then the next and the rest in the series. Though A Beautiful Funeral was interesting, it was my least favorite of the whole series.
The five Maddox brothers and their families are facing a tense situation. Two of the brothers are in the FBI, and some seriously bad guys are after them and their families. This makes for suspense and high emotions throughout the book.
The family dynamics are complicated. Secrets were withheld, and this caused a lot of anger between the family members. They are forced to confront their issues because they are in close contact, hiding, while the FBI is trying to protect them from those who want to kill them. The relationship exploration is good if not sometimes based on petty reactions.
During this time, some new members of the family are born, and others die. The action is often fast-paced, and when it is not, the downtime is used to see the family work out their problems.
The best part of the story is the ending when readers get to see the brothers through the eyes of their father.
Though this is a good book, it is probably best read after the others in the series in order to gain the most depth from it.
Talk about rip your heart out! Ugh! I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much over a book as I did with this one. It was so so tough to keep it together. However, it was TOTALLY worth it. After having a serious cry and reflecting on everything these beautiful characters went through I was able to find peace with the last few pages. There was an almost cathartic rhythm in the end. I absolutely loved seeing what these characters grew into and I’m sad to see their stories end, but the ride was a gift. There is no other like Jamie McGuire, and I feel absolutely blessed to have found her.
This book of the series tore my heart out. It is so awesome tho. Especially the end when the father gave his thoughts. Jamie is such a detail person in this series. I have read them all more than a few times. I have to say that I will most likely read them again. They are my go to books when I cant find anything to read. I dont even have a favorite, I love all the characters. Well, maybe I really like Walking Disaster the best. There is just something about Travis that cracks me up!!!!
This entire series is AMAZING!
We fell in love with the Maddox clan, but what happens when lies, deceit, and evil come between them?
This book will have you in tears, but it’s worth the read!
OMG…this was a GREAT book…I read it in two days! This book takes you through every emotion imaginable…AWESOME job, Jamie! The entire series starting with Beautiful Disaster is a MUST READ!
This book though 🙁
*5 Stars*
Well. Where on earth do I start with this? I knew, I just KNEW, that with a title like that, this book was going to be intense. Boy was I right.
I was on edge and feeling angsty for the whole damn thing. I sped through this one, and just like all the other Maddox stories, I loved it. But this one made me suffer for it.
I was a blubbering mess by the end. Literally, I had tears streaming down my face. Yeah, thanks for that Jamie!
I loved how this book has everyone’s POV’s, it was great to have them all come together and see where they were at, all this time down the road. I love this family. This is one of my all time favourite series, and I know this was meant to be the end, but I want more. I will always want more of the Maddoxes.
The roller-coaster that this book takes you on, brings to a head issues from the previous books, but mainly the ones surrounding Travis and Thomas. I don’t want to go into detail for those who haven’t read this yet, but its a nice way to round things out and give some answers. I did feel that we missed out at the end with Olive, and things seemed to wrap up just a bit too fast, I would’ve liked it to carry on a bit longer, with a bit more depth or explanation, or something. It was a tad too sudden. Not really sure. I did really like the epilogue though. I thought that was a sweet way to round the book off.
That said though, there are still so many answers to things I want. There’s a big question mark for me about where the family goes from here, and where they all go as their own individual families too. I want to know who forgives each other and who doesn’t. I want to know if Cammi and Trent achieve the one thing they haven’t so far, but want so badly. What happened with Taylor and Falyn? I just want to know more. And, I just want more because I’m greedy like that when it comes to those Maddox boys.
All in all though, I really did love this book and if you’re a fan of the series I think you need to read it. I know my review sounds kind of conflicting, but I’m just trying to put into words how it made me feel. My overall thought for this book though is that its intense and I loved it.
Great story to complete the Maddox family series. Ties up what happened with the characters from the other books.
