Blake Caster has been in an emotionally abusive relationship with Justin for so long, she can’t tell what is normal anymore, and so she clings to the one thing that is solidly hers—her passion for extreme weather.
Three years into her Meteorology degree, Blake meets professional storm chaser, Dash Lexington, who is as gorgeous as he is daring. Instantly recognizing her passion and skills in … skills in analyzing weather data, he makes a spot for her on his tight-knit storm chasing team. Dash and Blake form a fast friendship and it forces her to realize just how toxic her relationship with Justin is. She can’t deny the lightning-worthy chemistry she has with Dash or how her heart stalls every time he gets too close to a tornado.
With each chase and the cherished moments with Dash, Blake discovers her own self-worth and gains the strength to end things with Justin for good. But he won’t go easily. As Blake tries to sever ties with one man, she fears she’ll lose the other to his dangerous obsession—and she doesn’t know if she’ll be enough to save him from the impending storm that could end them all.

She lost herself. She wasn’t the person she knew was there. She was just so tired. Everything that was her had been lost and consumed. It was easier to just play along. It took 8 years for her to wake up and all it took was awakening. He lite a fire in her core. Something she knew she couldn’t pursue but she also couldn’t turn it off. Day by day she realized things were shifting. He waited. He listened. He fell hard.
Her story isn’t one of the pretty ones. Unfortunately her story is so true for too many people. People lost in a relationship for all the wrong reasons. Before I sat down to write this review I read Edge of Recovery. It just confirmed this book and made me want to throat punch someone but made me love this author. This isn’t an author who feels the need to sex up her stories so get ready for some real grit, down and dirty. There is a hea but Blake will make you want to throw your kindle, give her a kick in the pants or do just like Dash. The things she endures in the name of love is sad and distorted but done from the heart. The way this author plays it all out will make you a fan. The angst isn’t overdone even though it’s there. The emotion and guilt, strength and character and finally her recovery. I love this author’s style and can’t wait to see where she takes us from here.
I think this could have been better. The writing about the relationship and romance parts I found to be written very immaturely. I felt like I was reading about a child trying to act grown up only to sound even more childish. However, the action in this book was very well written. I almost thought there were two different authors.
Unfortunately I don’t think I have the patiencince to continue this series.
I heard about Molly E Lee in a Facebook group for another author I read. And the description of this book sounded good. This is her first book ever! Well if this is what I am too expect from this author. I’m so happy to say I’ll be getting her books from now on.
Living in Oklahoma the last 7 years I know all about tornados and the warnings. This book captured me with the areas in Tulsa she located the book I live around all these ares she mentions so I felt like I had a connection with the characters instantly! Abusive relationship, tornados, making new friends, discovering yourself, new love, and danger this book had it all! Such a wonderful read!
I’m very impressed for this new up and coming author!
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s well written and I got pulled into the story from the beginning. I loved reading about Blake’s development within Justin’s relationship when she tried to get his strong hold on her to loosen up and that she stepped out of her shell to finally enjoy her life.
The three characters (Justin, Blake and Dash) were well created and felt so real to me.
The Story:
This story is told in the first person in Blake’s POV. Blake is a meteorologist student and in a long-term relationship with her first boyfriend. Justin and Blake know each other since they were kids and Justin hadn’t had it easy in life. His parents had left him behind at his aunt and uncle’s and even they had kicked him out after a while. Blake was all Justin had left and that’s one reason why Blake always chose Justin when she had to make a decision where he was involved because she felt responsible for him.
Justin drinks a lot and since there is a fine line between a fun Justin and a blow-up worthy Justin, he often tips over into being explosive. Blake always tries her best to control Justin’s outbursts though he blames her a lot for everything anyway. He loves to play video games with his friends and Blake can’t remember when the last time was that he surprised her or went with her to dinner or to the movies. He even seems to be forgetting her birthday in the last few years. Justin changed and Blake hopes that the Justin she fell in love with is still in there somewhere and that he would come back.
Though at university, Blake meets Dash, the guy who chases storms, and Blake starts to notice the differences in Dash and Justin. She feels so happy being friends with Dash and he shows her that she deserves better and that Justin’s behavior toward her is not the only way to treat a woman and a girlfriend.
My thoughts:
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I felt so sorry for Justin a lot of the time even after all he’d done to Blake. He is an alcoholic and has problems to control his anger. He badly needs help. He has no purpose in life and even his work gets on his nerves but it’s like he’s afraid of changes.
I didn’t really understand why Justin didn’t want to give Blake up because it seemed like he could easily have other girls and he seemed more annoyed by Blake’s attitude anyway.
It was so thrilling when Blake, Dash, John and Paul went for a storm chase the first time. I felt like watching the movie ‘twister’ all over again.
Dash is a sweet guy.
Ps.: I still have hope for Justin that he changes and everything turns out all right. I wish there is a HEA-story for him some day.
Those storm scenes were intense. Whoa. Storm chasers are something special I tell you. I wasn’t too keen on more than half the book with Blake and her ahole boyfriend. I think because Blake was such a doormat and it took until like 70% for her to wise up. But that’s just me. Overall I enjoyed the story, especially the storm parts. Great detail, felt like I was right up in there with Dash and Blake.
My heart is still racing from the thrill ride that the reading of this book was!
It was a bit hard to read certain parts because of my own history, but cathartic as well. This story takes you on a ride through an abusive relationship, to the realization that one deserves better and more, to finding better and more…all with a background of exciting and thrilling storm chases.
A lot of stories that focus on a girl with a guy who isn’t good for her, immediately go to finding that guy who IS good for her…while this story does go to that good guy…it first focuses on friendship and I think that is SO much more important in the recovery from a bad relationship…especially one that is controlling and seclusive. I like that the author focused on the main character finding a group of friends outside that relationship BEFORE going to here’s the conquering hero mode.
This was my first book by this author, but I’ll definitely be reading more!
