The honeymoon’s not over yet! Kim and Brien’s excellent adventure at the swanky Sanctuary Resort & Spa continues when an unwelcome visitor drops in on New Year’s Eve. An elusive marine GPS device found and lost again, unleashes another wave of murder and mayhem in Corsario Cove! What is it about that thing? Stooges, Krugerrands, twitchy detectives, and monks—oh my! Will it be a Gnarly New … Year for Kim and Brien?

Kim and Brien were given a wedding gift from their friend Jessica to a really exclusive resort. I did read the first in this series, Cowabunga Christmas, (see my review here) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well the second in this series is kind of a continuation of the first–only this time it isn’t Santa who got killed-actually quite a few end up being murdered–but at least a surfer friend of theirs shows up at their hotel suite–beaten up but alive.
Although still on their Honeymoon–and it was almost New Year’s Eve–they decide to find out what is really happening and more important why.
I loved this novel as much as I did the first–it will keep you guessing–and laughing on occasion!
Gidget and Moondoggie are…OOPS! I mean Kim and Brien are back! Mick comes staggering back into their lives and the criminals are right behind him. Detective Mitchum is as grumpy as ever but at least this time he takes them seriously. After having their Christmas disrupted, Kim and Brien are now getting their Gnarly New Year off to a bad start. That’s when the fun begins!
I love this series! Both books are good, clean cozy mysteries. They are well-written and highly-enjoyable. There are enough twists and turns to keep things interesting as Kim, Brien, and Mick hunt for the secret treasure. The humor is evident in so many ways–some subtle, some slapstick. I truly enjoy the way Anna Celeste Burke writes a story and recommend all her books.
Gnarly New Year is the second book in Anna Celeste Burke’s Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery series. It is well written, the characters are relatable, it moves at a steady pace, with humor and lots of twists and turns, and kept my attention from beginning to end. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick, easy read. This is a clean cozy mystery featuring no gratuitous sex, violence, or foul language. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Kim and Brien are still on their honeymoon at the Sanctuary Resort and Spa in Corsario Cove in Southern California. They’ve been enjoying a wonderful week following their Christmas adventures, enjoying each other’s company, great food, spa visits, relaxing, surfing, and looking forward to the New Year’s festivities planned by the resort. There are some unresolved issues from the mayhem that interrupted the beginning of their honeymoon, but Kim and Brien agreed to leave it alone, and let Detective Mitchum handle the investigation. Unfortunately, their plan fails when a drunk and beaten Mick, dressed in a Santa suit, shows up at their hotel room after being missing since Christmas day. Once they get him cleaned up and some coffee and food into him, they agree to not call the authorities and listen to his story. Mick’s story begins with him and a local business owner being kidnapped by men looking for Owen’s missing GPS device (one of the loose ends following Owen’s murder). While Mick tells his story, Kim and Brien independently decide to contact Detective Mitchum and it’s a good thing they did because bodies start showing up. The seemingly mismatched newlyweds try to stay out of the investigation but find themselves drawn in by dead bodies, kidnappings, trying to discover the identity of the investor who is behind the smuggling ring, and modern day pirate’s gold.
