Fleeing the English army that murdered her family before her eyes, Anna Braxton rescues two young women, kidnapped by a barbaric Highland clan only to find herself unjustly imprisoned by the clan she aided. Disgusted by her treatment, she counters their belated offer of friendship with anger and distrust. But she does not count on the unexpected effect the laird’s son has on her heart.
Duncan … heart.
Duncan MacGregor does not understand his da’s command to imprison the young woman who saved his sister’s life. He is more than intrigued with Anna’s skill with a bow and sword—in fact, he is fascinated by everything about her, in spite of her lack of feminine wiles. Straightforward and with a deep-seated sense of honor, Anna Braxton disrupts his entire notion of a suitable woman.
Trained as a warrior and unwilling to be any man’s chattel, Anna shuns the idea of marriage—until Duncan coaxes her into a world of acceptance and passion she never knew existed. He wants her as his wife. She will agree, but only on her own terms—conditions Duncan is not sure he can accept.

A thoroughly entertaining story of a strong woman with English and Scottish blood and many talents that save her and sometimes cause her grief. Anna Braxton loses everything and must flee from her home. I enjoyed her story very much and look forward to more from Cathy MacRae.
I loved this book! I particularly loved the heroine and envied her strength, felt compassion in the tragic beginning and wish we all had elements of her upbringing. Love a story about a strong (literally) woman and how she can influence others.
This novel is very entertaining! The hero is basically the same as all the historic highland characters, big, strong, fearless and protective towards those he loves. The heroine is very refreshing, loving and kind, but as lethal a fighter as fiction will allow. I had so much fun reading, “Highland Escape”, and recommend it to anyone who likes to read about injustices righted and love achieved.
Read it twice!! I want to grow up and be her
I do believe I have found my most favorite heroine ever! Loved the kick-butt, take no prisoners Anna, I just wish we could have seen more of an “alpha” in Duncan as well. I do believe he was able to show his strengths in the way he held himself back and let her handle her own problems/defense without forcing her to allow him to protect her every time. I do home we see more of these 2 in the future as well as the wolf pup, I can just imagine what kind of protection Anna would be capable of with him!
It was great from the very first page. The characters were so real. Nice to see a female as a strong role model. Absolutely loved it!
I could not put it down. Was very riveting.
As with any author (authors) I like, I’ve read every last one of Cathy MacRae’s books. This was the first book in this series and it is wonderful. Non-stop action vies with a terrific romantic tale between a fierce Highland warrior and a very capable young woman. I loved the book when I first read it a fair number of years back and I still do. Good job, Cathy and DD!
This is my first read by Cathy MacRae and definitely not the last! The book started with a gripping and emotional scene that instantly pinned me to continue reading on until the end. Extraordinarily written storyline of a woman warrior who relies on her advanced martial and ancient arts training in combat and the healing arts to survive after losing her family and home to an evil man who wants her for himself. Well defined characters and a storyline full of adventure, suspense, plots, twists, and turns that keep you reading to see what happens next. I absolutely loved the different storyline, characters and the intricate fighting scenes especially where she taught the rude hulking warriors that you should be careful what you say to women because you never know when you pick on one who can take you down and hand you back your own a*s! I recommend this book to everyone.
