The story was really well written and once I started to read it I couldn’t stop reading it. It absolutely captivates the reader into this novel which is both fictional and religious.
H.W. Vivian’s writing is extraordinary. I love the detail she put in this book. Science fiction/fantasy/dystopia is one of my favorite subjects to read about. Thanks H.W. Vivian for a great new read.
War of Rain is post apocalyptic story of fifteen years of old girl called Miri, who lives in the desert village called Boreala. Her tribe are Rain gatherers who each day travel to the mountain to collect Rain, which is solid form of pure water which only melts when someone is praying it. Her tribe is peace loving, mostly humble people.
Near them lives others that are called Barbarians, because they are usually heavily scarred murderers. One day while Miri is returning from collecting Rain with others from her tribe they are attacked by the barbarians. She tried to protect one of the older women and accidently kills the one who is leading them, but she is scarred while she did so. After their return back to their village, one of the people were with them collecting Rain tells everyone how she killed one of the barbarians, which causes huge uproar with everyone and soon they are attacked by the barbarians again and they demand them to give the person who killed one of them. The villagers give her up to them to avoid the war between their villages. They give her to them and their leader, who is actually the brother of the barbarian she killed makes her to start searching Rain from their side.
While she is doing so and trying to keep herself alive from the huge bird she meets one of the barbarians, who had been left to the desert because he didn’t want to take a life from the innocent. Together they make a plan to get back to Miri’s village. While they make their escape back to Boreala, she kills the leader and some other barbarians.
Once they arrive back to her village, the leaders of the Barbarians come again, taking Miri with them to the mountain where she always collects Rain, they make her a demands that if she wants to save her village she needs to find Kalono, who is God of Rain in two days and ask him an invention that can bring both peace and war.
While she is searching she meets the inventors, people who live deep inside the mountain and she lives some time with them learning everything from simple writing to the history and origin of the mankind.
To me this story was story of growing up and searching for higher cause. There were ups and downs the heroine had to face before the end. The story was really well written and once I started to read it I couldn’t stop reading it before I had finished it. I could imagine how everything looked from the descriptions from the areas and how everything was happening. Each character that was introduced was interesting and made me want to learn more about them. Only thing I would have liked to see was more romance, but that is just my opinion.
