Dark and scary in the beginning. But, the love story behind it is worth the read!!
I read the blurb, I’m familiar with the author, and so I dove right in. I expected lots of darkness and depravity and, in the beginning, the author did not disappoint. It was graphic and disgusting, turning my stomach and keeping me glued to the pages. But then the intensity kind of fell off and I was left with a story that had more of a contemporary feel than a suspenseful one.
So let’s recap the story… Girl is out with her parents on a beautiful day, appreciating time spent with her family, and then everything turns scary. She winds up in the hospital, learns her parents are dead, her uncle gives her fake papers and sends her out of the country. She only knows that someone is after her, but not why. Seven years go by with her moving from small town to small town, without forming any attachments, and she starts feeling the itch to move again. Too late, she’s captured and tortured and about to die when she’s saved. Predator comes through, rescues the girl, kills her captors, and takes her to safety. Trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys isn’t easy when the girl is traumatized and scared, but he’s unwilling to let her go. While not really romantic, this story was still entertaining.
I’ve tried and tried and tried this author and I don’t have any plans of giving up. Her work always has a note that draws me in and I’m sure that won’t stop any time soon. So while this particular story didn’t completely blow me away, I’ll patiently wait for the one that will.
Wow, did Michelle Horst give me some feels on this one. Normally, I struggle with some of this kind of content that brings up personal triggers, but it was so honest and raw. It sweeps you along with the female character and her journey from the brink of insanity, where you wonder if she’ll survive. In swoops the most unlikely, yet one of the most endearing, and mysteriously hot male characters I read in a long time. You watch them struggle, prevail, and I ended up with a happy stomach full of butterflies at the end. Incredibly satisfying read for me, despite the agonizing start.

Cara had to leave South Africa after her parents suddenly death. A new identity Cassy Smith should keep her safe.
Damian isn’t sure what to expect when he’s hired to do a job but Cara definitely isn’t it.
The urgent need to protect her is full on and what he discovers is terrible.
Another brilliant book.
There is nothing worse than the feeling of being alone.
Having no one to speak to, to confide in.
Having no one to share your life with, share your emotions with.
The world can be a very cold, isolated, dark and unforgiving place when having to face it on your own.
It almost feels suffocating.
Especially when you’re only eighteen years old.
This is Caras story.
At eighteen, Cara is ready to set off to college like any other normal teenage girl. She has a wonderful life, loving parents. Her future is bright.
But Cara doesn’t know that monsters are lurking.
She doesn’t know that it’s her death they want.
An explosion will change everything.
Parents gone, she only has her Uncle left.
But she can’t stay.
She has to run.
New identity, new country, she has to make sure she is always one step ahead of them.
Seven years.
Seven years of running.
Seven years without friends.
Seven years without feeling, just simply living each day making sure you’re never found.
But after seven years, Caras time has just ran out.
They have found her.
It’s their turn now.
They will take her blood.
They will shatter her soul.
They will destroy her.
Not if he has anything to do with it.
He’s strong.
He’s cold and calculated.
He hunts his prey and kills with no remorse.
He saves people from the evils of the world.
His job.
To find a girl.
Her name Cara.
His name….Predator.
Welcome to Cara and Predators world.
A world where monsters exist.
A world where darkness seeps into your bones.
A world where strength and hope are the only things to hang on too.
A world where blood will be shed and souls completely destroyed.
A world where love is only a longing dream.
A world where two very broken souls will be united in the most horrific of circumstances.
Guys….Predator what can I say other than this book has left me with one serious book hangover.
Hooked from the dedication I was completely captivated, held hostage. I seriously couldn’t put it down.
It was raw, dark, extremely confronting, soul shattering, heart-breakingly beautiful.
To be honest it shattered me into a million pieces. So confronting at times it was hard to breathe.
So dark and raw it left me speechless.
So breathtakingly beautiful my heart melted.
So haunting there were moments it broke me.
Even after finishing I feel like I have a gaping hole in my chest….I honestly can’t explain it.
I wish I could rate this more than a 5 star, because believe me when I say Predator is absolute sheer brilliance and so much more. It’s a read not to be missed. It will leave you haunted….Just like me.
A HUGE 5 star read (but deserves 10 in my eyes)
Cara lost everything at a young age and must use a new identity to keep hidden from those who killed her parents. You watch as Cara fights with everything she has at times after all she goes through. You can feel what Cara goes through with both the abuse and learning to love and trust again. The chemistry between Cara and Damian is clearly just waiting to explode. Cara and Damian both have so much pain from there past and so many emotions to work through.
Although Cara puts in every effort to fight off her attackers, she can’t, then one night she is rescue by The Predator(Damian). Cara finds out that Damian was hired by her Uncle, but Damian isn’t quite sure of his motives in wanting Cara back.
Damian goes very slowly with Cara not wanting to scare her off, but, Cara’s insecurities from being attacked surface and she worries that she has ruined them. Damian then realises that he has never told Cara how he feels because he didn’t want to scare her. When Damian tells Cara “I live you”, Cara becomes confused until Damian explains you only have one life and she is he’s.
After not being able to listen to Cara tell him what happened to her, Damian wants revenge and Cara finds out the original reason Damian was sent to her. Again, leaving Cara confused.
I loved the ending of the book showing that with everything they both went through that they could still have that HEA, can’t wait to grab another book by this author.
This book was amazing Michelle Horst. I read it all in one go, couldn’t stop till the very last page…

Not knowing what her captives want and been subjected to the worst pain imaginable, Cara has given up hope and knows her time has come…
