“If there’s a living writer whose work makes me think of the great Raymond Chandler, it’s Jake Needham.”- James David Audlin, author of THE TRAIN
The first body is in Singapore, on a bed in … TRAIN
The first body is in Singapore, on a bed in an empty suite at the Marriott Hotel. The second is in Bangkok, at a seedy apartment near the American embassy. Both American women. Both viciously beaten, shot in the head, and lewdly displayed.
The FBI says it’s terrorism, but the whispers on the street tell a different story. They say a serial killer is stalking American women across Asia.
Singapore CID assigns the case to Inspector Samuel Tay. Tay is a little cranky, a little lonely, a little overweight, and he smokes way too much. A lot of people think he’s a lousy policeman, but absolutely everyone knows he’s one hell of a detective. That’s the reason such a sensitive case has to go to him, no matter how nervous it makes the higher-ups.
Then why is it, Tay soon begins to wonder, that nobody really seems to want him to find the women’s killer?
Not his bosses at CID. Not the FBI. And especially not the American ambassador.
Jake Needham’s THE AMBASSADOR’S WIFE, a #1 Amazon bestseller in both International Crime and Espionage Thrillers (August 20-23, 2019).

Highly introspective and tongue-tied, Singapore CID Inspector Samuel Tay is difficult to like or understand. How he became an Inspector without knowing well the society he lives in is puzzling. Yet, he is effective. He’s a bit like Mr. Magoo, and a fussy little man like Hercule Poirot. Yet, like Poirot, he is relentless in seeking truth, and …
I have never read any of his books before, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Couldn’t wait to but another of his!
Language was a real turn-off. Instead of adding to story line, repetitive foul language detracted greatly. This was such an unecessary element that I was finished with the book after a few chapters. I didn’t find lead character likeable as far as I read.
well written story, good character development, realistic plot.
Have read all Jake Needham books – never been to Singapore – he does a fantastic job in describing it !
A very good read, enjoyed the twist and turns.
Jake Needham is worth your time to try out. He’s one of those guys you discover and immediatly decide to read ALL his work. Yoi KNOW what I’m saying here. Grab any of his books and read the reviews that preface the book … You don’t have to take my word alone …. listen to what others are saying. Read one chapter. That’s all it takes !
I enjoyed the the character of Inspector Tay.
Quick and easy reading. Tough to put down.
