Judas was always unsuccessful in making his preacher father proud. When Webster Taylor found out that Judas and his girlfriend had had sex, he insisted they get married but at the last minute Judas got cold feet, left Laney at the altar and fled town. He regretted his actions but never tried to find his first love. Years later he returns to his hometown as sheriff only to discover there were things Laney never told him! Thought Laney was very forgiving – there was no grovelling by Judas! Seventeen year old J.D. is an interesting character.
Judas Taylor is the Sheriff of Sweetwater and he likes his job. Sweetwater is a relatively quiet town, usually. Judas was standing on the street handling a complaint about the goats on the roof of Levi’s diner when a purse snatcher runs past him and takes off in his squad car. He turns around to find the woman he jilted seventeen years ago. His day can’t get any worse, or can it?
Judas is basically a good guy. He carries a lot of guilt from his past. Laney hasn’t had an easy time, and carries her share of guilt and regret. She has come back to Sweetwater bringing her, and Judas’s, seventeen-year-old daughter (this is news to Judas). Jaydee has a punk appearance, a nasty attitude, and is pregnant. His day just got worse.
Well, there is never a dull moment in Sweetwater and certainly not with the Taylor Brothers. In this story, Judas and Laney struggle with bringing their part of the Taylor family together. The brothers are there to help, mostly. Jaydee resists their efforts with every fiber in her being. There is a lot going on, a wedding or two, a honeymoon, a car show, and a festival. It’s a page turner all the way to the end which is a hold-your-breath moment if ever there was one. Love the Characters. Great story!
I received a copy of this book from the author and am leaving my review voluntarily because I am really into this series! With that said, I must admit that brother #3, Judas, took a lot longer for me to warm up to because I found him to be rude, plus I have an aversion to characters who are smokers. Judas comes home to Sweetwater as the Sheriff, appointed by the County. This doesn’t sit well with his brother Levi, Mayor of Sweetwater, because they’ve had bad blood between them since they were teenagers, made even worse as adults since Judas was responsible for Levi spending time in prison for tax evasion. A stolen squad car winds up bringing him face-to-face with the woman he left at the altar 17 years ago, Laney McDermott, and her pregnant daughter, J.D. When Laney tells Judas the real reason she’s in town, he’s shocked to say the least. Judas never stopped loving her, but Laney has just turned his life upside down. J.D. made me want to slap her – she was a foul-mouthed, annoying, disrespectful teenager in need of a huge attitude adjustment. Thankfully, as the story progressed, Judas grew on me in spite of his flaws, Laney and J.D. became less annoying, and Judas and Laney became a fantastic couple. The Taylor family just keeps on growing thanks to understanding, perseverance, and love. On to the next book and brother.
Judging Judas
Elizabeth Rose
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I liked Judas and Laney’s story and Ms. Rose has captured the essence of life in small town America perfectly. People unfortunately in small towns, for the most part, particularly if they have known each other for a long time, formulate opinions about other people, sometimes erroneously and it was no different in this story. It would be very difficult for me if I was in Laney”s place to forgive a man that just walked away from a relationship much less being left at the altar. It would take a lot of work on hid part to rebuild the trust factor but I admired her for being able to do so. I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
Judas Taylor becomes the sheriff of the town where he grew up, Sweetwater Michigan.
When Judas was 17 years old, he left his girlfriend (Laney) standing alone at the alter on what was suppose to be their wedding day.
Now, years later Laney comes back to Sweetwater to find Judas and tell him that he has a daughter and he’s about to become a grandfather.
Will they try to make it work this time?
Judas who was the sheriff gets lots of surprises in this story! I loved how he got to deal with a teenage daughter that he didn’t know existed. Lots of fun as these brothers all come home and each story just seems to get better! Delaney was the girl he left at the alter without know that she was pregnant and was a great character too. J D who was his daughter was also well developed if not a lot of fun to read about. Lots of fun keeping up with this series.
From the awesome front cover to the last exciting page, this story does not disappoint. When you mix the sheriff of a small town with the lady he left at the alter 17 yrs ago, a teenage pregnant daughter he never knew about and a heart looking for what was missing, it make a terrific combination for a wonderful tale that will leave you breathless for more!
