Detective Cashel ‘Cash’ Godfrey is big, tattooed and angry so people typically keep their distance. He’s fresh out of the police academy, however, no one is looking to partner with the six foot four beast with a huge chip on his shoulder and an inability to trust. When Cash scans the … orientation room he wasn’t expecting to find sexy hazel eyes locked onto him. Eyes of the handsome Detective Leonidis ‘Leo’ Day.
Leo is charming, witty, hilariously sarcastic and the only one that can make Cash smile. He’s proud, out and one bad-ass detective.
Together Cash and Leo become the most revered and successful narcotics detectives Atlanta’s ever seen. Able to communicate and understand each other, without even having to voice it, they quickly climb up the promotional ranks.
When Cash saves Leo’s life in a raid that turns deadly, Leo begins to see something in the big man that no one else does…something special. But Leo fears he’ll never break through the impenetrable wall that protects Cash’s heart.
Nothing Special takes the reader through various emotions throughout the richly fulfilling plot that’s full of erotic gay romance, heartache, passion, trials and tribulations, police action scenes, and an intriguing twist that comes to an amazing ending that’s impossible to see coming.

Great characters, an engaging story, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of sex.
I really enjoyed the build up of Leo (Day) and Cash’s (God) partnership. The instant connection on their first day as rookies and the strength of their friendship over the years. Then their friendship turning from romantic and sexual to love and lovers.
The friendship they develop within the joy and the family drama help give depth to the story.
Overall, it kept my attention and the narration was well done. I know a lot of friends I will recommend this story to. But for me it had way too much sex. At least more than I wanted to listen to.
My first AE Via listen! Holy hotness. This is the steamiest MM I have ever read. And Aiden Snow – a must read/listen for any fans of MM.
I’ve read this author before. This is a mm contemporary story set in the USA. Police detectives Day aka Leonids Day and God aka Cashel Godfrey are the main characters. Told from duel POVs Day helps God find his purpose for life. I’ll read more from this author and this series.
Since you can’t enter an MM book forum without being drowned by gushes of A.E. Via praise, I decided to take a chance and bought the Nothing Special box-set (books 1-5).
But I’m sad to say this purchase was a complete dud. And the series is – unfortunately – quite aptly named. There’s truly nothing special about these stories.
The guys in these books are such over the top manly-men it’s just plain silly. All that’s missing is some shirt-less chest pounding and Tarzan-esque jungle-yodeling to complete the ridiculousness that are these characters. All the macho posturing and inane dialogue feels like a comedy of sorts. The kind where you need a pillow to hide behind because of all the second-hand embarrassment.
But the characters aren’t even the worst part in my opinion. This is supposed to be a detective series. All the guys are in law enforcement, some way or another. And all their interactions, and lives, center around their work and their various cases. However, it’s obvious that Via doesn’t know the first thing about police work. And this is most definitely one of my pet peeves. Authors writing about stuff they don’t know. Thinking they don’t need to do any proper research because they think they can make it credible by being vague and half-assing everything. But their ignorance shines through. Every single time. And what makes it even worse is that it’s not just one book, no, this is an entire series.
An I just can’t understand how anyone can give these books 5 stars…

Fierce as lions
Wow, God and Day make a formidable and sexy team. “You’ve given me purpose, sweetheart; purpose to live. You saved me and I’ll love you and only you forever for it.” I loved how they seamlessly communicated, their energy, their unbreakable bond and how they’re not afraid to go for what they know is right even when they don’t agree. Full of surprises, action, and great love, this book will keep you entertained late into the night.
Well what helped me finish the book is reading the sharing scene prior to the MC’s getting together. It let me see it objectively. But, still it made no sense to me. I did not like it, and to me it did not follow the story at all. While they did talk about it right before it happened, I did not believe it. Also, I did think that the way the reconciliation with Gen and his mom was believable. I mean if I found out the horrible things my son/brother endured and then just took the hatred after the incident, then I would forgive and regret pretty hard. And God wanted nothing more than to have them in his life. So, overall, ya I did not really like this book. I like them as a couple, but ya the sharing turned me off completely and then even reading it out of sequence did not stop that. While this was a miss for me, I look forward to reading more of A.E. Via’s work. Also, Aiden Snow…that man could narrate the obituaries and I would listen.
I totally admit to binging this series and coming back and writing the reviews after listening to books 1-6 in just a few weeks. I apologize if anything gets mixed up between books as many of the characters are in all of them to differing degrees.
This is a little bit of a slow burn as Via introduces us to the characters, their histories, the department, and the time before Officers Cashel “God” Godfrey & Leonidas Day transition from friends to lovers. While I was a little impatient to get to the relationship – I definitely enjoyed the world building.
Honestly, Day steals the show with his wit and vulnerable emotions. In some respects it’s true to Cashel’s reserved personality that he’s somewhat in the background – but I also think the anticlimactic resolution of his family conflict contributed to this as well. Overall, I loved their friendship and blossoming romantic relationship.
I struggled a little bit with God almost always being called God. I know it’s his nickname – but it was awkward in a lot of places and sometimes just felt like set-up for jokes. I felt like Day calling him Cash or Cashel seemed more personal to their relationship.
You can’t help but adore all the characters who are each intriguing in their own way. I was especially fond of Ro & Johnson, so much so that I kind of wish that they got their own book or novella. However, they get a lot of “page time” over the series, so it works out.
Aiden Snow definitely brings this book (and the whole series) to the next level. He does an amazing job of giving all the characters their own unique voice, tone, & personality. Eargasms galore!
Overall, a good listen and I was definitely invested in all the characters and wanting to listen to their stories.
Slightly Spoiler-ish FYI: There’s a scene, really it takes up at least a whole chapter, that details a foursome involving God, Day, Ro, & Johnson. It didn’t really bother me other than it sort of came out of nowhere and was at the very beginning of both individual couples’ relationships which made me question where Via was going with things. However, it’s something they do as an “addition” to their couple-relationships – it’s not a foursome/poly/open relationship. (sorry if that’s muddier rather than helpful)
Loved this book. Read in a day and continued onto the next book in the series. A week later I had read them all and starting to reread now. The characters are fantastic…funny, loving, and tough.

Oh, my word! Such alpha passion!
Now I’d say this is a seriously hot book, with tension, care, love, sass, and humor. I love God and Day and really enjoyed their story (I’ve read the rest of the series before this one. I know crazy right!)
I liked the power dynamics and care between these two. Were introduced to them briefly in the prologue as ‘rookies’, they fall in love over the four-plus years they’ve worked together, then we’re brought back into the story as they finally realize they love each other and start a passion-filled relationship. I loved the give and take between theses to and their care for each other is always present. I love God’s overwhelming presence and Day’s quick wit and humor. I loved how close they grew and how God’s story was told and how he healing with the help of Day!
The couple play scenes (a foursome) was hot, hot, hot! Oh my, pages set on fire.
I will say I feel the series has improved as it’s gone on and I don’t necessarily feel this was as good as I had hoped, but God and Day are the foundation and I love the whole team they are yet to assemble. It’s weird reviewing in reverse but I still love God and Day as characters and they all just get better in time!

This book was a bit of a wild ride. There was constant banter between pretty much all of the characters and just enough drama to keep things interesting. I enjoyed the dynamic between God and Day. Their friendship just seemed easy; it was clear that even from the beginning they understood each other really well. I do wish we could have seen more of the building of their working relationship and their friendship. We meet them both briefly, the same time they meet each other, and then there is a time jump. I wanted to see them grow a little bit into the guys we met in that first chapter because their chemistry was entertaining.
We saw everything in this book, from family drama, gun fights with criminals, sexy times with more than just the two MCs and some cheesy lines from both MCs. It was a bit of an over-the-top story but I was still into it.
There were a few things in the book that were a bit distracting. It seemed like both MCs had multiple names that they went by. It was a bit much for one MC to go from Godfrey to God to Cash (very briefly) to God again, especially as the blurb refers to him as Cash. I also felt like God and Day were a bit on the d-bag side. Some of the things they said made me want to smack them! However, there were many other things in the book that showed they were good guys but I think their egos need a bit of a downsize.

I loved this book. Absolutely freaking loved it.
My absolute favourite of this author’s work! God and Day have been my absolute favourite couple since the beginning with this book and still are after six books. Do not waste time getting to know all the men of the Atlanta PD!
