In this New York Times bestseller, a single father discovers the true nature of unconditional love when a new chance at happiness turns his world upside down. At 32, Russell Green has it all: a stunning wife, a lovable six year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive, and an expansive home in Charlotte. He is living the dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at … marriage to the bewitching Vivian is at the center of it. But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when every aspect of the life he has taken for granted is turned upside down.
In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or a wife, caring for his young daughter while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality. Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding — one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he’s ever imagined.
When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder. But with the loyal support of his parents, the wisdom of his older sister, Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love — that it is a treasure to be bestowed, not earned.

Not your typical Nicholas Sparks book. Like other reviewer mentioned it is more about a marriage failing than a love story. This was one of my least favorite Nicholas Sparks books.
Love everything Nicholas Sparks
was a great story – very touching
This is a great book…tear jerker so make sure you have your tissues. At the same time there is a character that you just want to slap some sense into. Warning there is a family history cancer story line so if you’ve ever had a close friend or family member battle cancer it will hit close to home. Another great Nicholas Sparks book!!
This is not the typical Nicholas Sparks book so if that’s what you’re hoping for, you will be disappointed. Instead of a romance, it is about a failing marriage. Although the build up to the divorce was too long, I did enjoy the characters.
I loved this book, but the ending upset me. I wanted to know how everything ended. The book ends abruptly and still asking questions
Was not the usual Nicklaus Sparks book. Did not like this book.
I usually love Nicholas Sparks books but this one was so boring the first half I almost stopped reading it as I felt the story was going nowhere! If you read the description it makes it sound like the wife dies (not the case) and it was like he was trying to beat it in to you that she was a nasty/selfish person.
Instead of quiting the book I decided to scan it to make it go faster which helped and I finally got to the better (not good) part of the story. Every chapter starts out with flashbacks which I felt was not needed as they did not add anything to the story. I did finish it but I would not recommend this book to anyone as I felt the story was kind of slapped together to give it an ending that was no where near as good as his other books I have read.
Good book
Actually was okay. A bit tedious & repetitious. I would not read again.
In my opinion it started off a little slow, but it turned into a really good book. The ending definitely had me on the edge of my seat.
Love this book – couldn’t wait to get back to it.
Loved this book. So sad I finished it and have already read all of Nicholas Sparks books. I have to wait until October 2018 for the next one.
Not my favorite N. Sparks book, but as usual a great read. This one I felt was different from all his others. I never knew quite what was going to happen. The wife Vivian was irritating most of the book and I wanted to shake her, but I also understand the need to be something other than just a wife and a mother.
It was ok. Somewhat interesting…definitely a quick read!
Not my favorite book by Nicholas Sparks but it does have a very touching and powerful message behind the book. I struggled with getting into the book but was determined to finish it and after several attempts at the book I finally was able to finish. It doesn’t have the same feeling and writing that his other books offer and I think this different style is why I struggled so much with this book.
As always Nicholas Sparks has nailed a hit! I though I had it firgured out and again he surprised me with a twist! Still greatest author EVER!!
