Great beginning to a new series. This paranormal read is not like others I have read. There were times that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to finish reading it bc it was hard to follow at times but I am so glad I finsihed it and I am looking forward to reading the next.
So, Aaron is a new author for me, but having read the blurb I was most intrigued, especially since he won the 2017 International Vampire Film and Arts Festival Golden Stake Award for this book! I’m just sorry it’s taken me this long to read this!!
This is the first book in the Undeadly Secrets series, and I must say I really enjoyed it. To me it’s not a romance read, it is most definitely a suspense read with a touch of horror in there. Aaron does a good job with the world building with various chapters travelling back in time to explain just what has happened in the past. I also love the fact that this is set in Australia, puts a whole different feel on the story!!
Alex and Lauren are best friends and roommates. Alex has a long term boyfriend, Matt, and they are frequently together as a 3. Lauren is obsessed with a night club owner, Dante, but he shows absolutely no interest in Lauren, but gets on fabulously with Alex, who is equally enthralled with him, despite being with Matt, she sees Dante as just a good friend. Both Matt and Lauren are not impressed with this, in fact Lauren hooks up with a guy called Ryan in an attempt to make Dante jealous. Lauren ends up going back to Ryan’s flat and can’t seem to remember just what happened through the night with Ryan, but it seems he has video evidence!
Dante turns out to be a 250 yr old vampire, but stands out in his views from the rest of the vampires and the Royals that rule the vampire world, in the fact that he does not view the humans as just food for slaughter. He believes in the old world ways and treats the humans with respect and has a donor who he feeds from. He does not bow down to the Royal rulers or obey their laws really.
Things turn quite nasty as Ryan is not what he seems. You get to find out just why Dante is so interested in Alex, she is not really a stranger! You get some good background on his donor, Michelle, and understand just how close their relationship is, but not in a human romance term, but as donor and vampire.
This was a great start to the series for me, with lots of background info and world setting. Looking forward to reading more in this series!
amazing read and love that it’s about my home town, can’t wait to get the rest of the series
It’s a good book just a few small issues for me. The story and plot are wonderful ideas and created well.
The story is very realistic like I could put my friends in place of characters based on attitude descriptions. I love how the author made them this way!
Speechless! Let me start by saying I do not read vampire or werewolf books. Night Walker was a book club read and I decided to step outside the circle and give it a go. In all honesty I was hesitant and I procrastinated, on day one I read the prologue, picked the book up the next day read chapter one. The following day I told myself to get a grip and give it the chance it deserved. Surprisingly I finished the book in one sitting. I will go on to read the series but I need to take some time out first.
Mr Speer wove a wonderful story, he began by recapping the convicts landings in Botany Bay, Australia which was pure brilliance in itself. When we are fast forwarded to present, the scene was set making it feel realistic. I don’t want to spoil the story in anyway but what I will say is that it is based around three humans who call themselves the Three Musketeers and the Sydney vampire community. Things are not always as they seem, with many unexpected twists and turns. Numerous interwoven webs amongst the characters, not to mention that there is a little dissension within the vampire kingdom that makes for very intriguing reading.
OMG I totally loved this book and want to read more about this story. This was a really great book. Great job to the author and keep up the great writing.
I’ve been hearing what a great book Night Walker is for over a year now and finally settled down to read. I get it now. I love the storyline. The concept of humans and vampires working together has me ready to dive into the next book in this series.
Mr. Speer’s character’s are well written with just enough background to keep me guessing and wanting know to more.
The story flows perfectly, keeping me, the non-PNR reader, entranced.
Aaron Speer’s vampires aren’t the over the top, fantasy world type. They live among us but have a deep history. There are good and evil vampires, as conflict is what we need to keep turning the pages. And that is exactly what I did. I stayed up all night turning the pages, then one-clicked book 2.
Red Recommended Book and Author
Wow what a amazing read that i felling in love with this book. What a refreshing new vampire story. That i read in one setting. This is going to have you on the edge of your seat read. I will be reading this book series.
This book leaves me intrigued with Aaron L. Speer! The way the creative mind works is amazing and this story was filled with so much to keep you on the edge of your seat!
I thought the characters were impressive(even the ones I didn’t like) and that it had a few plots within the main plot that lead you to wanting more ASAP!
Brilliant!
This is my first time in reading this author with it being great to still discover new ones. Who doesn’t like to unravel secrets? In this they come out to play even with the main character taking you on into this one-Alex. Also not all paranormal has nicey nice in it with this being the one that is like that. The world that comes revealed is dark and dangerous with us getting pulled to the edge as this goes on. The changes that will go on in this one is what will keep you to the pages.
This was so cleverly written, taking us back 100’s of years before to help us get a clear picture on the history that made up this incredible story. I loved the characters and the storyline that drew me in, making this a page turning read. Are diving straight into book 2…. Loved it
Wow! Just wow! It’s safe to say I didn’t know what to expect going into this book as I have never read a book in this genre before. This is a new to me author too…….so a double hitter. And what a hit!
From the first page he drew me in,weaving a back story of how the convicts (vampires) from England landed in Botany Bay (this fed my inner history geek, after visiting Fremantle prison in WA), no pun intended and I digress!
I seriously could not put this down and the twists and turns left me with whiplash! I was literally on the edge of my seat as I made my way through the book, trying to figure out how this was going to go.
I have popped my PNR cherry! I am off to one click the other books in this series! Oh yes! It didn’t just end there, how it ended?! Well you need to read it to find out!
A modern take on a classic vampire tale. Good paranormal read. Paranormal books are one of my favorite genres and the book feel a little short. This story was well written and well paced. In the beginning it was a bit confusing since they main characters aren’t really introduced. I love the main characters because their friendship seems relatable. Alex and Matt’s relationship and struggles felt the most real. Dante grabs your attention right away with his mysterious ways. The only part that i did not care for was the extra minor scenes. The story jumps from the main characters to other characters that have certain interactions with vampires. I get that this was to show you what was happening around our main characters but would have preferred this mini scenes were just kept has the news reports and nothing more. Overall this was a good story, I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I’m curious on what happens next and looking forward to the next book.
I am new to this author’s books and actually started with his most recent book which I LOVED! Imagine my eagerness then to read his take on the paranormal lives and…not living. This book just lacked real emotion and any serious plot twists until the end. I don’t understand as the other book was so powerfully written. It’s as if two different people wrote them. Maybe he just feels more strongly for the newer subject matter. I would happily give the next book in that series a try. This series though…is dead to me.
