When foul-mouthed, tattooed, vegan Marie Diaz-Austin accepted a summer internship on a ranch north of Santa Barbara to work with underprivileged and special needs kids she was expecting hard work. She wasn’t expecting the gorgeous, but conservative rancher, Will Thrash who wants nothing to do with left-wing hippies like her.
While they both may be stubborn when it comes to climate change, … change, they’re much less rigid about considering a summer fling. Although they hate each other’s politics, they can’t deny their immediate and growing attraction to each other. But when the stakes are raised and they’re forced to make a choice what will give? Their principles or themselves?

Opposites can make perfect partners
Marie is a vegan liberal and Will is a red meat eating conservative but they discover they have more in common than they thought. He’s a tall, sexy, smart, cowboy. Marie never knew she could be so attracted to a Republican. She’s a tattooed, crazy hair color, sassy, sexy soon to be therepist. Will never thought he’d fall for a Democrat. These two are fantastic! Will is dreamy! We also get to see Amelia and Ryan again!!
What can I say. Reading a book by Leslie McAdam is more than just a casual read. It is a full sensory experience. Her books are full of imagery and she sets the scene like no other. The Stars in the Sky is no exception. Set in the gorgeous rolling hills of California’s Central Coast, We meet Marie and Will. Marie is a liberal, hippie vegan who is strong, self assured and clings hard to her core beliefs. Will is a fourth generation rancher who is is a staunch Republican, sexy and stubborn as hell. On the surface these two couldn’t be more different. But when together the sparks fly and their chemistry is into the stratosphere. Leslie does a fantastic job of intermixing laughter, sexuality and emotion in her reads. Her beautiful, heartfelt words took me on the best kind of journey. 5 Stars!
When opposites attract
This story – wow It’s one of those romance novels that is so much more than a story about two people falling in love … and these are fast becoming my favourite type of romances. The Stars in the Sky gives us two polar opposites in Marie – the Democrat, vegan, environmentally friendly, tattooed woman – and Will – the Republican, ranch owner who loves his meat, his wranglers and his cowboy hat. But what makes these two different is also what makes them so damn good together and watching them fall in love was a pleasure.
Despite the story being solely from Marie’s POV, Will is a strong, dominating character who we still manage to learn so much about. And what we do discover adds him to my list of ideal book boyfriends and I now know why so many readers swoon over this cowboy. Sure he can be an a**hole (both his and Marie’s words!) but it’s the depth lying underneath that tough exterior which Marie – and all of us readers – fall for. And when you see just how he affects the strong-willed, stubborn Marie and manages to crack into her closed off heart, you know you’ve found one hell of a man.
Leslie McAdam does an incredible job of intertwining into the story quite opposing politics views without advocating for one or the other. And this is the first romance novel I’ve read that has done such a fantastic job of this. There’s no political agenda here, just a story about understanding and respecting the views of those you love. And I absolutely adored seeing both Marie and Will make compromises in their beliefs – and yep, I even enjoyed the arguments too because angry, make up sex is hot!!!!!!
This series is shaping up to be one of my favourites. And I can’t wait to read the next book with Amelia’s workaholic colleague Jake about to get taught a lesson in loosening up.

Conflicting ideologies make for strange bed fellows.
Can a staunch republican and an idealistic democrat find love? Or is political disaster in the making?
Marie Diaz-Austin accepts and internship on a ranch that will test her liberal resolve. It all begins with a shower encounter. One quick wet run in with Will Thrash, ranch owner, and a superficial, judgmental comment leads to a political relationship wrench.
Marie is a devout liberal and can’t move past her beliefs. Will is staunch in his beliefs but doesn’t let it get in the way of his heart. Will grew on me quickly. Even though his Alpha responses are quick and bullish, he’s willing to bend even if he doesn’t agree. In trying to compromise with Marie he even takes one for the conservative team, all he was miss was a pair of Birkenstocks. Marie struggles opening up her heart, her past continues to influence her present. I found myself easily relating to Marie. She’s so focused on her causes that she’s blinded by political affiliations. Will doesn’t split hairs, he wants Marie and lets her know. Can Marie move past her grudges and find true love?
I really enjoyed this story, I couldn’t get enough of Marie and Will. I loved that they had strong beliefs and didn’t change what they believed but they adjusted to each other. Compromise is what makes a relationship work and Leslie McAdam’s taught us how to make it work. On a side note, Will is absolutely lust worthy. His Alpha hit the mark and the cowboy persona shot him off he charts.
I need a Will. He’s all about showing instead of telling and he’s so swoony sweet. I hate it when I’m jealous of a fictional character!
