A wonderful read!
When he’s bride runs off with her fiancé on his wedding day, they are left to pick up the broken pieces of each other…
Oh wow..I really enjoyed this love story with a bit of a twist on how it started and developed. Through heartache and pain, they found found else – something much better.
I loved watching these characters going from friends to lovers. I loved their interactions with each other, how they started and how they ended (though I honestly don’t know how I feel about the last couple of chapters – a bit disappointed but not that disappointed to give it four stars).
Full of heartbreak, laughter, art, family, friends and love.
Perfect for readers of contemporary romances.
Ugh, I freaking love Eli sfm. It’s true, this is one of those times when I love the hero more than I love the heroine. Nothing wrong with her-in fact Gwen is pretty amazing too. I just really, really love Eli more. I really think he’s one of those guys who will be an everything kind of guy. He’s most def an everything to me. He may be grumpy and arse-ish, a walking and breathing nightmare to interns, and shady as a friend, but he’s the bomb as a son, brother and of course as a lover. Gwen’s the luckiest. Though I can’t say I’m not disappointed at Gwen before the epilogue, I can’t say I like what she’s done either. She’s just super duper lucky because Eli has been remarkably patient and understanding, loving her enough to not stop her for what she thought she wanted to do. And maybe it’s ok if she feels selfish, wants to be selfish, for wanting the guy for herself alone. Buuut, just saying Eli’s actually a closet saint. God, just thinking about it, I wanted to hit Hannah and Sebastian myself.
I loved Eli and Gwen! They had great banter. I didn’t even care that Eli was an asshole in the beginning. One the outside he had this hard a-hole shell, but on the inside, he was all caring and stuff. It just took a wee bit for it to come out. Loved the epilogue, I thought it wrapped everything up nicely.
J. J. McAvoy always has been a guarantee to me for reading a freaking great book with lots of twists and a plot that leaves you breathless. And That Thing Between Eli & Gwen doesn’t fall out of these categories. But, and again, McAvoy never disappoints to deliver awesome-as-hell stories. It is what it is! A undoubted fact.
That Thing Between Eli & Gwen is a standalone story which you’d wish to be a part of a series or something because you can’t get enough.
Its founding idea is simply amazing and an one whose similar I have never got to read before. Which makes it even more special to me. From the first time I read the blurb, I knew instantly that I’m gonna more than love this book. Just imagining how this story would unfold, gave me chills all over my body. And, honestly, I got a BULL’S EYE!.
The fun that I had during the first part of the book while Eli & Gwen are going around and around each other can’t be counted. I laughed my ass off so much in some situations they got themselves into. Their interactions after the disaster in Eli’s wedding, were plain gems. I had a grin constantly attached to my face while reading them. As they got closer, these interactions were getting on DEEP emotion field, which made me, in return, all mushy inside. And DAMN if both Eli and Gwen hasn’t got the dating, the love and the deep game in a whole new level! Together they were creating real magic and an fantastic spell I didn’t want to get out from.
“You are a vixen… my vixen.”
I was feeling in a portion what the characters were feeling because McAvoy has a habit to do that to me; to make me feel what her characters are. It’s some times overwhelmingly amazing! Eli & Gwen went through so so much during the 278 addicting pages of the book. Every strong emotion there is on this planet, they felt it to its core; sadness, joy, love, contentment, whole, heartbreak, pain, shock etc. But they made them come out of them even stronger and more in love than ever.
J. J. McAvoy is one of the authors whose work spellbounds me even before I read the actual stories. She also one of the few authors I have blind faith on since no matter the blurb of , the book, just because it’s written by her pen, makes it a MUST READ for me. It may all this sounds a bit extravagant, but it’s really not. It’s my truth when it comes to McAvoy’s books. I really can’t wait to read the rest of her work. And I wonder what the future holds from her pen……. :p
This is the second book I’ve read by J.J. McAvoy and just like that first book (Black Rainbow), I absolutely adored this one. There is just something about her writing that brings the characters to life and makes you wish that you were living the story with them.
Creating memorable characters is McAvoy’s biggest strength, I think. They are so realistic that when you’re reading, it reads like a movie. I hope that makes sense … it just plays out so realistically in your head that you quickly forget you’re reading and not experiencing it in real life. Gwen was a bit of a spitfire … she’s spunky and sassy and definitely marches to the beat of her own drummer. She’s, in a word, captivating. And Eli is a hard-assed doctor who is used to getting his own way, he’s super focused and a little jaded. These two mix like oil and water at first. It was almost as if there was this unspoken contest between them to prove that they are hurting more than the other. And boy, did they have me grinning like a damn idiot at their antics when trying to make the others life as miserable as possible. I found both of these characters fascinating and absolutely mesmerizing. I couldn’t put this book down because I just never got enough of either of them.
There were quite a few things going on within the story but I never felt bogged down. That’s not always the case with a book that is busy. That Thing Between Eli & Gwen just flowed seamlessly between plot points and you never had a chance to blink an eye or catch your breath before something else was going on. It was fabulous!
I have so much more to say but I don’t want to ruin it for you. Just rest assured that when (not if) you pick this book up, you’ll not want to put it down and then you’re going to go look for another book by McAvoy to read. I suggest Black Rainbow, of course. This has been one of the best books that I’ve read this year and I know that I’ll read it again when I need a dose of humor and romance. Another great job by McAvoy and I can’t wait to see what is next!
