Welcome to Palm State University, FL. Reading this book definitely took me back to my time at college. Not that I attended school in warm, sunny FL, but the memories of making new friends, rushing my sorority, attending classes, parties, mistakes made, things learned, basically everything that encompassed that time in my life as a young adult.
PSU is brought to you in episodes, like a television show, where POV’s shift throughout each episode at different a point in time of the semester. Rush begins following seven college students; Bear, Jess, Adam, Cassie, Skyler, Ashlei, and Erin, whom are all at different grade levels, but are all involved in greek life.
Each student has a different storyline, but they all intersect through friendship, love, or greek membership. This entire premise is very engaging to read, as it keeps the pages turning. It has light angst, some bed hopping, but it is very upfront – the characters are up front so there are no hurt feelings about one night stands and such, but this is also college and kids also do dumb things, this is the brilliance of any show that keeps us watching or in this instance, reading. This is only book one and filled with only six episodes with more to come in the next books.
This book is written as if it was a reality tv show, short episode stories about friends at college, having all the fun, partying like crazy and finding the next. Full of drama and multiple POV seven characters. Having all of them makes you to really get to know each one of them. I enjoyed this first season.
This is EXACTLY what Kandi Steiner says it is.
It’s your favorite 2000s/2010s kinda drama – think Gossip Girl, the drama of Vampire Diaries – in book form. I’m drawn in, but the second I stop, I question everyone, much like how I would binge those shows.
Dive into all the college age fun, but don’t expect one neat story from start to finish, that is not the goal here. Instead, meet SEVEN main characters, whose stories get told throughout this whole series. You’ll see cute sisterly bonds develop, hot hook ups, catty, annoying drama that always accompanies new adults thinking they are the most mature thing ever, you’ll question these character and your desire to know more about them and yet you’ll want to read it super quick and get to the next book. It’s a phenomenon that I’ve truly never read before.
3.5 stars
This is Book 1 of 6 in the Palm South University Series. It is filled with drama, lies, sex, new beginnings, newfound friendship, and loss of others. It has been described as “a mix of Greek meets Gossip Girl with a dash of Friends.” This is very accurate. The story involves seven college students as they maneuver unrequited love, teacher/student romance, the tangles of “no strings” relationships, love triangles and more. This is basically the introduction of the characters and where it all begins and develops. You have to pay close attention because there are 7 characters to keep up with, and it is a lot. You get the usual debauchery and drama involved in college shenanigans. There are many humorous situations that will have you laughing out loud. There are great characters in this book. You get invested in their stories. I loved the feeling of sisterhood, brotherhood, and friendship. I was a little skeptical initially because it starts off slow but it definitely picks up towards the middle/end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
Wow. I don‘t really know what to say. This book is addicting as hell.
I wasn‘t really sure about it at first but damn I fell in love with the characters and their storys so quick.
My favorite has to be Cassie! I don‘t know why but I just love her and I hate that her story in the first season turned out like that. Also Ashlei‘s story was a rollercoaster and I can‘t wait to find out more.
All characters have their own unique problems and you just get sucked into their life and you need to know more about each and everyone of them.
This book really feels like a tv show. I can only imagine how great of a show it would be if it got made into a real show!
Can‘t wait to read season 2!

Wow, Kandi Steiner made me want to go back years and join a sorority. I felt immersed into these characters’ lives. Normally, I don’t enjoy a book with a lot of different characters but somehow Kandi Steiner delivered these stories wonderfully and without confusion. There were different characters that I gravitated to but I enjoyed all of them. The feeling of friendship was something I craved throughout this book. I’m looking forward to the rest of books in the series.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started easing this series. I’ve heard a lot about it. There is so much drama, already, right from the start. But I can definitely see some potential in this series and why everyone likes it, so I’m going to keep reading.
4.5 Stars!
Rush! Well what a complete RUSH it was reading this addictive book.
It’s like nothing I’ve ever read before.
It follows the lives for several college students and their all consuming experiences. The drama, secrets and twists and turns – GAH!
I didn’t think I’d be able to keep track of all the characters, but I’m so invested.
Very fun and addictive storytelling. Can’t wait to sink my teeth into the next one.
Rush (Palm South University #1) by Kandi Steiner is a new adult romance serial told from the first person POV of seven characters. Written in the style of a TV college drama show, the book is broken up into six episodes with each episode containing scenes from various character viewpoints.
In this book, we meet our seven protagonists: Cassie, Bear, Erin, Ashlei, Adam, Jess, and Skyler. It’s the first semester of college and they are all different ages and in different stages of their education. The one thing that everyone has in common is participation in Greek life. We are introduced to the characters as they navigate the craziness of college life in South Florida including sex, booze, drugs, friendship, and betrayal.
As a serial, this book is mainly an in-depth introduction to the characters, setting things up to continue in the next book. It was a fun read.
Have you ever picked up a book and immediately knew that it wasn’t for you? I am ashamed to say that I put this book on my imaginary “Nope.” shelf a few years ago. Anything that promises me to read like a TV drama makes me want to seek professional help. I have seen The OC and I do not want to read that in book form. Drama. Lies. Sex. Uh, no thank you.
Everything changed when I realized that this is written by the lovely Kandi Steiner. She has written two books that have really had an impact on me. They were instant favorites. I mean, I don’t think she can write a bad story. It’s not possible. Because of that reason, I removed this from my “Nope.” shelf and added it to my TBR. I had been waiting for the right time to jump into this series and bringing in the new year with Kandi just felt right.
Welcome to Palm South University.
In this season, we follow around seven PSU students – from upperclassmen to freshmen. We get to see the newbies struggle through rush week and watch the Bigs pick a Little. The real drama, however, starts when we learn that everyone has secrets. Someone is smitten with their Big’s boyfriend. Someone is realizing she has feelings for her sorority sister. Someone is hooking up with her professor’s GA. Someone is challenging his fraternity’s president. They are quickly learning that lying and pretending isn’t easy. The truth is starting to come out and everyone has something to lose.
5 ADDICTING STARS!
I devoured this book in one sitting. It has been a few days since I finished it and I’m already dying to get my hands on season two. However, I hear that there is a book that this series branched off from, so I may read that first. All I know is that I made the right decision to read this series. And to think that I almost never picked it up… Lesson learned.

READ THIS BOOK. DO IT NOW.
Just had to get that off my chest.
Palm South University was not at all the book I thought it was going to be. I’ll be honest; I expected it to be a sort of guilty pleasure read, filled with the college life drama you kind of hate to love but can’t look away from. What I found instead was depth, honesty, and an excellent portrayal of what it means to find and define yourself as you take your first steps into being an adult.
I loved how many different types of personalities were represented in the book, and how believable and unique each character’s back story and situations were. I found myself racing through the book so I could jump back into each narrative, and there wasn’t a single moment where the story didn’t have me completely engaged. Friendship also plays a huge role in the book, and as someone who previously knew very little about sorority life, PSU really changed my views on it and on what positive things it can bring about. I loved seeing the women of the story support each other.
What impressed me most of all about the book, and what has me wishing I had the chance to deliver Kandi Steiner the huge and incredibly grateful thank you she deserves, was its featuring a believable and relatable bisexual character. It’s so rare to see bi women represented in any sort of fiction at all, and to come across one that had the same thoughts, doubts and struggles as I did was unbelievably meaningful to me and I can’t thank the author enough for that.
Season two has been bumped straight to the top of my reading list and I can’t wait to read more!
