In this steamy series opener from bestselling author Jamie K. Schmidt—whose writing has been called “hot and sexy, with just the right amount of emotional punch,” by Lauren Layne—a vigilante biker takes the power of love into his own hands. Lucy Simmons comes from a rough family, but she’s a damn good public defender. Even though she hates to see criminals walk due to sloppy police work, the … police work, the law’s there to make sure everyone gets a fair trial, and Lucy certainly doesn’t believe in the kind of justice meted out by the leather-clad ex-cop they call “Evil.” He’s stubborn, cynical, and out of control—but he plays her body like no man ever has. For once, both Lucy’s boss and her brother agree: The biker is trouble.
Evan Villiers took a sacred vow to let no killer, rapist, or pedophile go unpunished. When scumbags fall through the system, the Sentinels of Babylon clean up the garbage. Although the SOBs and their methods may not be to Lucy’s liking, the beautiful lawyer has become Evan’s light in the dark. But his next hit is Lucy’s own brother—a murderer who got off on a technicality. Now, with his loyalties split, Evan must turn his back on his sworn duties . . . or lose the woman who has claimed his reckless heart.

Hot, thrilling and I couldn’t put it down. Jamie Schmidt just draws you in and then sends you on a wild ride. It’s so intense that it will take a while to wrap your head around all the action. You won’t believe the ending!

Vigilante bikers? Yes, please!
Seeing justice carried out when the legal system fails is a fantasy I’ll freely admit to enjoying, especially when administered by an ex-cop who runs his own motorcycle club and lives by his own code of ethics. Evan lives up to his nickname by considering himself a necessary evil in the quest for justice in his corner of the world.
Lucy is a fearless public defender who hides her wild side under her prim-and-proper skirt. She’s 100% on the side of abiding by the law and letting the courts decide, until one of the cases that Evan takes on turns out to be very personal for her.
Despite their differences, these two have a strong connection that leads to a very satisfying HEA.
I really enjoyed the story, and loved all the characters involved. However, I was a little pulled out of the story by the frequent reuse of sentences, the grammar and spelling errors, and the overall clear need for a strong editor. If what I had read had been cleaned up first, it would have undoubtedly been a five-star read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
WOW! Just WOW! I think my heart is still racing from this book! I am completely satisfied after reading this book! It is A M A Z I N G! The characters were written with so much passion and audaciousness that you literally will fall for them! I did! Evan is not only is he rock-hard he is imperiously smart! He pushed all of my buttons and continued throughout the story to make me fall for him even more! By the time I finished this book he had me hook line and sinker! Lucy proved to me that not only is she cheeky but she is bloody adamant when she is in her element. Evan brings out the best in her. You could definitely feel the lust full haze he puts her in. Staunchly brilliant with the way Miss Schmidt conveys through her words! This book is a MUST read for fans of MCs and one that I HIGHLY recommend! Do not let this book slip through your fingers it is one you WILL WANT on your shelf!

An excellent MC romance filled with action, crime, danger, intrigue, betrayal, MC clubs, hot bad boy/girl alpha vigilantes, a little romance, hot steamy sexy scenes, love and a happy ever after. Very well written, diverse individual characters with amazingly strong chemistry and a high octane thrilling storyline. Jamie K. Schmidt has produced a fantastic book to start this series off and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

ONE HIGH OCTANE THRILL
Spontaneous combustion! Jamie hit the mark dead center with this remarkable thrill ride, delivering some small time justice, brutal lessons and relentless pursuits, sewing in some heavy duty heart, soul and finesse, holding you tight from the first sentence to the last word, flinging this bad boy to staggering heights. Chicanery and mayhem descend in a tempest of cunning manipulations and brutal tactics, blurred lines, broken barriers and crushed perimeters, limitations are heightened and explored, secrets confessed, revelations unmasked and promises made, exhibiting the separate struggles and challenging triumphs, exposing the impish quirks and defying bents, reaching deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of determination, exploding this baby to life spectacularly. Continence and dynamics in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so profoundly until everything else ceases to exist, blowing this gem into the eye of the storm launching it into a tailspin with mind-blowing results. The attraction and chemistry collides with such intensity, exposing boundless emotions and infinite affections, drawing our characters closer, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are complex, genuine and realistic with traits and qualities that balance and blend, with amazing depth and diversity with enough spice to add an extra kick to the mix. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions creating a colorful backdrop that so rich and lively as though you can just reach out and touch it. Remarkable job Jamie, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.
Evan “Evil” Villiers is an ex-cop turned bar owner and motorcycle club president. He and a few friends serve their own kind of justice to those who get away with breaking the law. .
Lucy Simmons, always believing the best in people is a public defender. She is strong, passionate in her beliefs and tough in a courtroom. She has two weaknesses: spiders and Evan.
Even though Evan and Lucy were often on different sides of a case, the attraction is there. They have crazy chemistry, which pulls them together.
I loved the whole premise of this story about a group out to serve justice. The whole motley group is just ripe for stories. They have no guilt in dispensing punishment.
The story moves pretty quickly and a mystery will have you trying to figure out the answer along with the characters. Could someone you love kill? In Lucy’s case she has two someones to worry about.
Necessary Evil is the first book I have read by Jamie K. Schmidt. The characters are gritty and make no apologies for who they are. The plot will draw you in but the characters will hold onto you.
Vigilante justice
Necessary Evil (Sons of Babylon MC Book 1) by Jamie K. Schmidt is a tension-filled, steamy hot MC romance. Full of good guys/gal who can be oh so very bad, and a good girl with a steel backbone. In this book, Evil (Evan) finally stakes his claim on Lucy. These two have danced around each other long enough and the timing is both perfect and awful.
The plot of this book sets up the series of this MC and creates plenty of suspense, throws danger in the heroine’s face and culminates in the good guys prevailing, love overcoming the odds.
Overall, a super steamy MC romance with a swoon-worthy alpha and his perfect match for his forever claim and their HEA.

Loved the Surprises!!
The Sentinels of Babylon MC is not your typical MC because of the men and woman who make up the core of the club. We have a cop as the Prez as well as a Green Beret and a CIA agent and their mission is to rid the world of slimy people who the “The Judge” deems as people who need to go because the law let their victims down. Evan the cop is now Evil the man who is part of this 1% SOB and would you believe his lust interest is in public defender, Lucy?!
This book was full of chemistry and the surprises that come have you re-reading just to make sure you read that right. I loved the story between Evil and Lucy and this group of vigilantes who are out to make things right for victims. I can’t wait to read Sentinel’s story next!!
Love or Duty?
“Necessary Evil” is Evan/Evil and Lucy’s story. Evan “Evil” Villier is a retired cop turned club owner and MC Pres. who follows the spirit of the law. Lucy is a public defender who follows the letter of the law. This intriguing tale is the first book in the “Sentinels of Babylon” series and it’s a powerhouse tale. Evil works on missions from an unknown source that seem to blur the lines of the law while trying to protect his city. This storyline is not straightforward, but curves with emotional drama, duty, action, and suspense. The plot is well-formed and original, this is not your usual biker tale. Evil and Lucy have a second chance at love, but it may be tainted by one of Evil’s missions and his devotion to duty. This is the exciting first installment in this new series. You need to get on board and start this series ASAP!

This is book one in The Son’s of Babylon MC Series and it is Lucy and Evan’s story. What a brilliant start to a new series by Jamie K Schmidt and it had lots of twists and turns along with great character’s and storyline and I couldn’t put it down and I had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next and I was not definitely disappointed as this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Jamie I Schmidt is a brilliant author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her and you will not be and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Loved the passion between Evan/Evil and Lucy; some hot times there. Enjoyed the bits of suspense and action to the story. I just didn’t care for the feel of the story. I was hoping the guys in the club would have more honor and be mostly good people, but they all were pretty much jerks. These people are ex cops/military type people, so I was expecting more, but they were just disgusting and immature. They have this vigilante thing going on, but it seems to me that they just mostly get drunk and party at their bar; sleeping with tons of random easy girls. Also, Evil asking Lucy to defend a drug mule prostitute was just so stupid when the girl chose that life. That girl has been given plenty of opportunity to live a better life, but has continued to choose the prostitution lifestyle; she wasn’t even grateful to Lucy for helping her. Evan wasn’t so bad, but I still don’t trust that he’ll be fully honest with Lucy. It also took him years to go after Lucy; I guess he finally got tired of banging all those randos, how sweet! Honestly, I wanted to feel like he wanted to be a better man for Lucy, but I just didn’t. There’s only 4 people in the club; 3 men and 1 woman. Sentinel and Warden are both disgusting men and they are sluts; they banged some random druggie woman at the same time, which is just so gross. Have some standards boys; I have no desire to read their books. Actually, the majority of the people in this book are loose and sleep around, which I suppose you get with an MC type story; I’m just going to stay away from MC’s books in the future. I’m tired of the whole skanky atmosphere at the clubs. I forget what the woman’s name was; she doesn’t seem to sleep around, but she’s not a nice person. I’ll probably just skip the rest of this series. The writing isn’t too bad, but the vibe to this series doesn’t suit me. I liked Lucy okay, but she’s too needy and doesn’t have common sense. Also, something odd was that Evil was a retired cop; there’s mention that he retired early with a full pension, but isn’t 62 the earliest you can retire? If he were injured during duty maybe, but that’s not mentioned, so is the character in his 60’s? If so, that’s just weird. It doesn’t seem like he’s that old, so that’s good. Maybe it’s a possibility to retire earlier; still weird though. I do like some of the ways the story branches off; some cool ideas there, I just didn’t care for most of the characters.
Two thumbs up and five stars for this book, but also a surprising smile of satisfaction. Why surprising, you ask? Because I’m not a fan of alpha guys. I never watch Sons of Anarchy, although I do love Wild Hogs.
I’m really glad I gave this book a chance, because the author knows how to deliver a fast paced story filled with grit, turmoil, scorching hot sex, and characters that draw you in.
Given the premise, I didn’t think she could pull it off…make me fall for a guy like Evan or that I’d like a woman, who would fall for him. But I was wrong. Evan is a tough, ex-cop who heads up a vigilante motorcycle club, but inside he’s loving, protective and has morals. As for Lucy, she’s smart, strong, she’s real and as loyal as one can get who leads her life not just with her heart, but her head (most of the time).
I won’t give you all the details (spoilers), but suffice it to say, the pages burn up with the chemistry between these two, throw in great secondary characters, and a fabulous plot and you’ve got book you won’t want to put down. Trust me, you’ll finish this story and go straight to Sentinel’s Kiss.
Evan aka Evil is a retired cop who has a past with the sassy public defender Lucy. They’ve been opponents working on different sides of the law and they have a history of off the charts chemistry. They’ve had a previous encounter that neither have forgotten and fate has brought them back together. The Sentinels of Babylon are masquerading as a motorcycle club, while in truth, they are vigilantes. A group made up of a retired cop, ex-CIA agent, former military and former prison guard. They all are dedicated to getting the criminals who beat the law and walk away from what the Sentinels feel should be their real justice. Lucy has suffered from the “innocent but convicted” burden when her father was sent to jail for a crime he did not commit.
Fate throws Lucy and Evan back together and their hidden feelings as well as the hot chemistry flare up. Evan wants her for more than just sex. Lucy wants Evan but she’s unsure if she can accept his vigilante role. Lucy is a strong heroine who has a smart, sassy mouth and can hold her own in the overloaded testosterone laden environment of working with law enforcement and the macho Sentinel guys. Lucy and Evan are both thrown into a situation where they both have to reevaluate their feelings, not only about their love but also their preconceived societal issues. Are they both willing to make changes in their lives to achieve their own happy forever life together. Read the book to see, you won’t be disappointed.
