New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella! It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl. Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max … in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.
They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

So so sweet and sexy! A fitting story for two side characters introduced in the previous book, The Trouble with Mistletoe. Rory and Max has fascinated fans of the series since they kind of teased readers on their back story and this short holiday novella did just that. A nice cozy and sexy read! I’m sure these two will be making another appearance in the next book, as adorable side kicks!
I’m so enjoying this Heartbreaker Bay series. Just finished this novella which warmed my heart. It was fun to see Rory and Max get together after reading about how he brings Carl in for grooming all the time at Willa’s shop. It was interesting to see that they had a backstory from growing up. Great story about love, family and second chances.
Everything I like in a book. The characters are great, have fun and the story is a fun escape for a couple of hours.
Max is driving home to Tahoe for Christmas. He isn’t thrilled that he got shamed into taking Rory with him. She is his enemy. She destroyed his life in high school. He avoids her. And now he will be stuck with her for four hours in the cab of his truck.
Rory hasn’t been home in more than six years. She isn’t looking forward to the holiday. She really isn’t happy that she will be driving with Rory. He was her secret crush in high school. When she became a runaway she left he and everything else behind, all accept her crush on Max.
Four hours on I-80 and I-5 have never been so dramatic. Silence filled the cab for good portions of the trip. They needed to talk but situations kept getting in the way. Heavy snow creates challenges and then a Highway closure forces them to talk. Rory shows she isn’t what Max expected.
Discovery is a new beginning. Confessions of high school open doors for a better future. Admissions of love bring home of forever.
This is a SHORT NOVELLA. It is the story of Rory Andrews and Max Stranton.
Rory is trying desperately to get home her family. She hasn’t been home or seen them in years. It is Christmas Eve and her ONLY ride to Lake Tahoe comes by way of Max Stranton. Max is annoying, handsome, and has a big goofy dog named Carl.
Rory is out of options, but being stuck in a truck with Max sounds like a horrible fate… She has had a big crush on Max since they were in high school. She knows he is attracted to her, but they have a history that didn’t end well. Can they take a long trip in a massive snowstorm and ignore their chemistry? Maybe one snowy night will be all it takes to bring them together.
LOVED this short story. I really loved the antics of Max’s dog, Carl. I am glad that Rory agreed to accept the ride with Max so they could finally have a conversation about what happened years ago.
This little novella is so fun – romantic, sexy, full of twists and turns. Characters you love and root for. Just what I needed at this crazy time! Awesome!
The Heartbreaker Bay series has been my holiday jam this year and I’ve been completely and thoroughly entertained. One Snowy Night is really a novella that you can easily read in an afternoon or between all the shopping and wrapping you’re probably doing. Max and Rory went to high school together until Rory took off one night. She has no idea the devastation she left behind. Max’s life was ruined, or so he thought at the time. But was it really? Fast forward to San Fransisco where the two run into one another again and sparks begin to fly. Add in a drive back to their hometown in the middle of a winter storm in the high Sierras and you get a quick and entertaining story about two peripheral characters in this feel-good series.
One Snowy Night is an outstanding holiday romance by Jill Shalvis. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Shalvis has produced a book that is well-written and populated with fantastic, lovable characters. Rory has promised to be home for Christmas. Max is going to the same area and Rory’s boss asked him to give Rory a ride home. Max and Rory’s story is loaded with drama, laugh out loud humor and spice. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to my next book by Jill Shalvis. One Snowy Night is book 2.5 of the Heartbreaker Bay Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This was another great book in this series. It was great to see both of these characters get their much deserved happily ever after. I definitely recommend this book, this wonderful series and this author.
