5 COUNTRY stars for Hitman and Songbird’ story! Let the magic of the music seduce your soul.
Dear Lord! This book made me remember why I love reading. Can’t Walk Away by Sandy James is so captivating. From the first pages I was deeply attached to the story. The author delivers a wonderful contemporary romance. The plot is beautifully addictive and refreshing. I must say that the author did a goodly and amazing job. Books like this shall be written more often.
The main characters are well developed. The heroine has some trust issues but deep inside her lies a warrior lady. She has dreams like any other women. Singing is her life as is her little daughter. Savannah is so talented. Will she be able to handle both of her worlds: being a single mom and becoming a country singer? She knows what she wants. There will be a time when she will stop being a scared kitten to become a lioness ready to fight for her baby, to fight for her broken dreams and to follow her heart.
Not only Savannah has trust issues, Brad Maxwell has them too. His past force him to stop writing songs until he meets Savannah, his muse, his songbird. He has an air of bad boy but he is a good one. At first I tough he didn’t know what he really wants but as the story goes on he develops feelings that were unfamiliar for him. But let be honest who doesn’t like a guy who is capable to express his feelings through songs? Max is a poet and his heart is as big as the sun and more. He is loyal and possessive.
“You’re the one I thought I’d never find. What do I have to do to make you mine.”
The chemistry between Savannah and Brad is intense. They tried to control the high attraction for their sakes but as soon as they touch each other, they lose it all. He is her boss. She works for him. Her voice will inspire him to star writing again. A poet in the shadows has finally seen the light. Falling will not be easy for them to handle because both have too much to lose, too much to work on. However their hearts will lead the way.
Savannah and Brad are simply perfect for each other. They have a sweet and tremendous love. Who wants a knight in shining armour when you can have a sexy poet who can seduce you with words? Brad is the kind of man who falls in love once and stays loyal to you. But not everything is sweet and pink. They will make some mistakes but together will work out. They will learn to trust and to love freely, to listen and to ask before doing anything. I enjoy the evolution of them as a couple. I predict they will share a delicious and steamy love.
This is the first time I read something from Sandy James. She is new to me. Her writing was tidy and nifty: a pretty combination for a good book. I do really need to read more about these wonderful characters. Maybe sweet Ethan and protective Russ deserve their own book too. Prepare yourself for a warm and intoxicating reading. Let Hitman seduce you with his words. Let the magic of the music entice your senses. Nashville Dreams Series promise to be one of the best series I’ve read.
“The Hitman was back, and his new songbird clearly belonged to him.”

Brad “Hitman” Maxwell had it all… a promising music career, the fame all that head to Nashville hope to find, and then in an blink of an eye it was gone. Now he has settled for a much more subdued lifestyle, spending his nights behind the bar slinging drinks, instead of being on the stage entertaining the crowd. It’s not exactly the life he thought he wind up having, but it is what is, and he is doing his best to embrace it… but then a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel wanders into his world and things suddenly start to look up!
Savannah Wolf has dreamed of being a star in Nashville since she was a little girl, but life didn’t go quite like she planned all those years ago. Now she is more concerned with providing her daughter with the best life possible, and it’s admittedly been tough handling it all on her own, but she cherishes every moment of it. Then an opportunity of a lifetime comes along when she is offered an opportunity to stand on the stage at Words & Music bar and sing to it’s patrons. She knows it’s going to be tough juggling everything, but she really wants to give it a try… finally deciding it’s now or never!
Can’t Walk Away is an endearing story that is sure to tug on the hearts of readers and leave them beaming! This first time read was quite an enjoyable one for me, it gave me the feels, made my heart happy, and had me feeling the the heat more than a few times!! I always love stories centered around single parents, the innocence that comes through, seeing families being formed, and them finding a happily ever after they deserve… and I have to say this one held it’s own amongst my list of favorites. I think it is safe to say that Ms. James new Nashville Dreams series is going to be a hit with readers, it definitely has me singing her praises!! Highly recommend!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
3.5 stars– CAN’T WALK AWAY is the first installment in Sandy James’ contemporary, adult NASHVILLE DREAMS romance series focusing on three friends who own and operate Words and Music-a bar in Nashville, Tennessee: Brad Maxwell, Ethan Walker and Russell Green. This is songwriter Brad ‘Hitman’ Maxwell, and waitress/singer Savannah Wolf’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Brad and Savannah) CAN’T WALK AWAY focuses on the building relationship between Brad Maxwell and Savannah Wolf. Savannah is a twenty-six year old single mother; a singer whose earlier musical career was jettisoned by her former manager, boyfriend, the father of her five year old daughter Caroline, and the man who has destroyed our heroine’s trust with other men Michael Hart. Brad Maxwell, is a struggling song writer, a once popular and chart topping writer who lost his muse when the woman he once loved and lost betrayed his trust and the bonds of their marriage. Hearing Savannah Wolf sing was like a beacon to Brad Maxwell- the call of a long, lost urge to pick up a pen and begin writing anew. What ensues is the quick building love between Brad and Savannah, and the potential fall out when issues of trust make for too many hurdles between our story line couple.
Brad Maxwell’s attraction to Savannah is one of insta-lust/love. He is determined to make Savannah a star but our heroine wants only to earn enough money to buy a house and pay the bills. As Savannah’s star begins to rise, her mounting fame and the paparazzi begin to build walls between our leading couple.
The relationship between Savannah and Brad begins as a business arrangement. Brad makes Savannah the headliner at Words and Music but our heroine struggles with the notoriety as her popularity begins to soar. Brad and Savannah both have issues of trust, and in this, the little secrets and bumps in the road are blown out of proportion throughout the story; they both continue to compare one another to their previous relationship disasters. I struggled with their exaggerated reactions to the ‘small things’, as well as a perceived lack of chemistry between our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Brad’s friends and business partners- musician Ethan Walker, and Russell Green; Savannah’s over-protective parents Paul and Mary Wolf, and Savannah’s daughter Caroline, as well as Words and Music stage manager Randy. The requisite evil comes in the guise of Savannah’s ex-manager and boyfriend Michael Hart. I am looking forward to Ethan and Russell’s story line.
CAN’T WALK AWAY is a story of second chances, of sorts, for two people who loved and lost, and suffered the humiliation of betrayal in return. The premise is engaging and enjoyable; the romance is seductive; the characters struggled with issues of trust. CAN’T WALK AWAY is a charming and pleasant story line.
