A dark, twisted malevolent story of possession and love.
The alpha male Philip Murphy was powerful, dangerous, possessive and protective of the people he cared about. The story was raw captivating and sensual
This book was ok. Kind of crazy and unreal
This book was on sale at Amazon for 99 cents.
Philip Murphy is part of the Chicago underworld (except his exact position is not well described). Claire/Ella is kidnapped because of her father’s gambling debts. She is about to be sold when she seeks refuge with the mysterious Philip. The author sets up an attraction between the two but then the book jumps several years and Ella is in college. There is no description of how Phillip and Ella developed a relationship and why Phillip lets her go in the end.
Ella is in the process of finishing college when Phillip lands on her dorm doorstep one night broken and bleeding. She takes him in and they reconnect. Ella discovers that he’s discreetly been keeping her safe for years. But she’s in trouble now. Phillip takes her home with him and there is a drawn out story about trying to find out who is after her and how all the pieces fit together.
There was great chemistry between Phillip and Ella. I liked the overall direction of the book. It just seemed like details were spotty. If the author had spent more time building Phillip and Ella’s relationship when they met in the beginning, I think readers would connect more with their story.
Deep: A Billionaire Romance
Finding out she was adopted was bad enough, being kidnapped to pay for her “fathers” gambling debts was not what Ella (Claire) had ever planned for.
Sure she revolted a bit once she found out about the adoption and put together the reasons why she had never really been someone her adoptive parents were never proud of, but to have to pay for gambling debts by being kidnapped and being sold as a prostitute to repay that money? Why her and thank goodness that Stella helped get her away from that first night and the man her father owed that money to.
Philip Murphy owned Chicago, ok he owned Chicago’s seedy underground. Philip was the first person Ella meet after she and Stella went into hiding at Philip’s Chicago home. Where Ella learned a lot about owing for your keep and your protection.
Skye Warren again has given us an amazing story about the seedy, steamy world of Underground life. Philip Murphy has lived a rough life for a long time. It started before he turned 12 but from that time on he made a name for himself in the Chicago Underworld, a good name with some and a bad name with others, like law enforcement.
Philip also made a mistake; he was enchanted with Ella. From watching her mature from a distance to keeping in touch without even touching her Philip will protect her forever, but even more Philip needs her. He needs her to help heal him. He might not ever tell that to anyone but he does need her. Her good heart, her ability to see good and to be his, his possession, his prize, his heart.
Skye Warren has given us Philip a man, who cares deeply for family who will protect family with all he has and all he is. He comes across as brash, dangerous, large, overbearing and taciturn but if you get to know him, really know him you know that he does that because he cares, because he loves, because he needs to be loved.
Philip and Ella’s love story shows us that loving doesn’t ruin you, instead you are always with each other no matter where the other person is.
Deep by Skye Warren ***** Well done! Intense, complicated…
This story is gripping and I couldn’t put it down. It includes kidnapping and murder, obsession, control, suspense, erotic sex, dark love.. It’s complex without a clear line between good and bad. Maybe like real life… An intense fiction read for sure, and Skye Warren’s writing style did it justice. This is my first experience reading her books, and I will be reading more. Disclosure: I received this book from InstaFreebie and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
The story is violent and a thriller set in trbulent world of Chicago Underground . Claire is kidnapped and sold as a compensation for her fathers gambling debt and there she’s abused and imprisoned. Rescued by Shelly she is thrust into the protection of Philip. He keeps her safe and releases her. But he’s attracted to her so he stalks her, follows her and eventually gets attacked trying to protect her. Her life is in danger, her brother kidnapped, so he rescues her yet again. Here the plot thickens and the web that traps her , shows more hidden threads to what seems a simple kidnapping for ransom crime.
Will they find closure? Or their HEA?
This was the second book I read by Skye Warren (Yes I read the series out of order I’m a dork like that). This was a wonderful book I absolutely love Philip he is so dangerously sexy and I can’t get enough of him. Again I do not regret going to the dark side of romance Skye has so made the trip worth it.
