Interesting concept. a half wolf that has been gifted the alpha mantle instead of growing into it. Fen is a great character that is very caring about her pack but not very forgiving of herself. Hunter is a larger than life character in his uber alpha status, but we really don’t get much information about him in this installment. I hope that we learn more about him in the future. There was a sex scene that I was not expecting. Overall, the story was very interesting and ended such that I would like to see were it goes from here.
Half Wolf is Aimee Easterling’s 1st novel in her new Alpha Underground Series. Having been kicked out of Wolfie and Terra’s pack by the Tribunal uber-alpha, Fen and her small entourage spend their time wandering the outback territory searching for a place to call their own. But now, young, female “halfies” are going missing and/or are being butchered by someone hoping to clean up the bloodlines. Fen and one of her pack mates are halfies and proud of it. Fen is tking this personally and decides to investigate. Can Fen figure it out in time, or will her snooping deliver a prime alpha halfie princess right into the hands of the enemy?
This is definitely a sit on the edge of your seat read. The storyline is fast-paced and well written, filled will unique werewolf lore, danger, political intigue and determination. The characters are well developed and egaging. It’s always enjoyable to see players return from previous series. As for this seres, can’t wait to read book 2!
Let’s start off by saying I love paranormals. Wolf shifters are my fav! So I was looking forward to this story. It starts off confusing and slow. After a few chapters it all starts coming together and making sense. Then it turn into a fabulous story. There is intrigue, drama, mates, seduction, a few snarky girls as well as a stalker.
This is my first book by this author. This is the first book in a series. This can be read as a stand alone. This is my first book by this author. I also listened to this on audio and Angel Clark did a good job with the narration.
This is a unique story about a half wolf, non-alpha, alpha. Fen is only half-wolf & her wolf part is extremely meek. She runs in to Hunter & he ends up visiting her pack who accepts those considered less for whatever reason. He gets her “kicked” out of her pack & her alpha gives her a part of his alpha power & gives her a few from the pack to go with her. On the run from Hunter, who she considers her stalker, they end up in his sites again at a shifter bar. He’s trying to protect them from a group intent on sacrificing those who are half wolf for their power. The only one who believes they can trust him is Fen. How do you protect your pack when your wolf is so meek?
This is a unique story as the main pack is filled with a bunch of teenage outcasts. The characters are well written & developed. Story visualization of what’s happening & the surroundings are easily pictured & you get wrapped up in the story.
Promising start to a fun new series…
This story was so much fun. It will grab your attention from the very beginning and take you on a fast-paced adventure following a newly appointed pack leader, Fen, who is struggling with her new position leading a small pack of diverse and interesting shifters. As if that wouldn’t cause enough stress, she is forced into a position of playing the part of a brave warrior who must save two young female shifters from a gruesome fate despite having a rather submissive and timid wolf as her alter ego. There is no shortage of challenges for Fen to overcome and the journey was filled with action, adventure, passion, betrayal, humor, and an entire spectrum of emotions that made the story engaging and difficult to put down. I like to read along in a book while listening to the audio version so that is what I did with this story. I felt the narrator of the audio version could have done better with the tempo of the reading (she was very slow, especially at the beginning) and I did not agree with some of her choices of inflection which I felt made certain sentences awkward, but none of these issues were enough to ruin the experience for me. She did give distinctive intonations and accents to the various characters to help distinguish them and I always appreciate narrators making that kind of effort. As with so many shifter stories, there are some rather steamy scenes. There is also some violence, but it is not described in graphic detail. Overall, a wonderful start to a series that promises to captivate and entertain. If you have read the Wolf Rampant series, you should enjoy how beautifully the author ties this first installment into the other series. If you haven’t read it, however, I don’t see any reason why you can’t fully enjoy this story because the author carefully crafts passages with enough information to inform the reader of past significant events without getting mired in unnecessary detail that might detract from the current story. Looking forward to more from this series.
This story is very weak as is the Alpha. I liked bits and pieces but on the whole it’s not good.
I liked Fen and was curious about her since she was first introduced to me in the Wolf Rampant series. So I was happy to learn she had her own story.
This segment of Fen’s journey is an interesting one.
Fen starts off as a character that is unsure of herself and her abilities.
As her story progresses the reader gets little glimpses of how strong and intelligent Fen could be.
One of the things I liked about Fen was her courage. I liked how even though she may have been filled with fear she stepped up and fought for those she loves and herself.
I feel as Fen grows and comes more into her own that she might actually become quite an amazing kick butt character.
This part of her journey ends with Fen making some difficult choices and preparing to face emotions she’s been holding deep inside. Maybe she might even find some answers.
I look forward to finding out what the future has in store for Fen and seeing how her character develops.(3.5)

I’ve been a Fen fan since the start and wanted to know more about her. I got a lot more of her in this book. I was shaking my head since the start of the story. I really wanted Fen to be able to reach out and listen to other wolves and not dismiss them. I wanted her to be more aware. However, I guess that is part of the story, where we know better than the heroine in the story. We’re the ones yelling, don’t go in there, etc. Fen got to do a bit of stretching herself and learning about what it is to be alpha. Her packmates got to learn what it is to be a pack. I’m glad this is only the beginning of Fen’s story.
Angel Clark did a good job voicing Fen and giving the timid voice to as well as boisterous voices to the other packmates. The flow was pretty good with a lot of internal voicing for Fen. There were the blank spot pausing, but I did not find them overwhelming nor annoying. The story overall was a good listen.
Fen and Hunter first met when she was in Alpha Wolfie’s pack and she was out on pack land and saw hunter and thought that he was trying to find a pack but what she didn’t know was that he was there for her and he was trying to get her to go where she could become the person he knew she could be she was happy where she was he let her drag him back to her pack and when he talked to the alpha she found herself kicked right out of the pack and told she couldn’t return so several other members went with her with Wolfie’s good wishes along with some of his power as she was their alpha now for some reason she didn’t trust her wolf and she couldn’t do a lot of the things the blooded wolves could and she had to depend on her second Glen and Ginger and they were just going from place to place but they needed money and Ginger was a very sexual person who didn’t have one ounce of modesty so she was up on a table stripping in a room full of blooded wolves who were about to howl their approval. Just when things got a little hairy in walks the one man that she hadn’t expected to see so soon but Hunter Greene he came to rescue her but she couldn’t understand why but after they barely got away and had decided to team up with another wolf who happen to assist also but they didn’t know him at allnhe said his name was Quill he claimed that he didn’t have any pack and that he wanted to run with them so they voted him and voted Hunter out but Hunter had already told them that Fen was his mate that didn’t sit well with several of the pack members Lia was the one who didn’t want Hunter to leave but she did want Quill too, she didn’t like him and didn’t want him near her if she could help it things happen that made you wonder what they were all thinking when things happened. This is more Fen’s story because she is a half wolf but Hunter is an enforcer who works for the Tribunal Council and he is hunting for the SSS who is going around killing half wolves and removing their hearts. There is another girl who has just gone missing and they plan to check with her family to see if they could get some information to help find her she and Lia are about the same age and as she and Fen are the two half wolves in their group Hunter will make sure she is safe as well as Lia who adores Hunter even though Fen is convinced that she can take care of her and her pack without his help he is not so sure until Lia is kidnapped Hunter turns back up and Ginger blames Lia’s kidnapping on Hunter.Things are definitely not what they seem in this story. Pretty good story. The next book continues Fen’s story. I gave 5*’s on the kindle ebook that I purchased 2016. I also purchased this audible 2018. I cannot give the audible the same rating I gave it 3*’s. I thought listening would make you feel like you were there but the reader just read no real emphasis on what was happening.
I found the first installment in the Alpha Underground series to be entertaining, however, I found myself wanting something more. Although the characters were interesting, I wanted more depth to them and to their interactions. I believe they all had the potential to be complex characters, but instead fell flat to me. I wanted to know more about Fen’s pack mates and why they would want to leave the safety of an established pack to follow Fen into outpack territory.
Additionally, I was seriously rooting for Fen. I believed that she would come into her own and find her strength as a leader. Instead I was disappointed in her development. I know that she is young and cannot possibly know everything about leading a pack, but I at least expected more from her. I did not really feel like she ever took the time to get to know her pack members and form connections with them. She had zero idea that Ginger even had a crush on her. Not only did she not form connections with her pack mates, but she never formed a connection with her actual legitimate mate, Hunter.
The interactions between Fen and Hunter were few and far between, yet she would drool over him and throw herself at him as soon as he would decide to come into the picture. I needed a lot more to that little relationship. It just seemed extremely rushed and a bit lacking to me. Overall, Fenn’s decisions always seemed somewhat rushed to me, and I greatly questioned her decision making skills. She trusted the first person that seemed to help her, and allowed him into the pack despite Lia having apprehensions about him. This was just shady to me. I know you need help, but you don’t want to compromise any of your pack mates feelings of safety. Even knowing how Lia felt about him, she wouldn’t limit their interactions together. This was very odd to me.
Although I did have quite a few hangups with certain parts of the story and the characters, I did find the book to be entertaining. I believe that the book did have a lot of potential, and I only hope that as the series continues, more growth and depth is instilled in the characters.
Not only is the poor woman a half-shifter trying her best to keep her small pack together (a pack she’s unqualified to lead if we’re looking strictly at how powerful one’s wolf is), she also has a strong alpha dogging her footsteps and a group of killers out looking specifically for someone like her. It’s not a great position to be in, but Fen manages.Hunter Green is a uber-alpha strong, handsome, and can stopped wolves in their tracks with just a look and he’d tracked his little “lost wolf” .
Fen has to grow and accept her wolf for the sake of her pack and herself. After being thrown out her pack for being a Halfie she runs into the enforcer responsible. He tries to help her keep herself and her pack safe from the SSS who kill halfie for their power.
I fell in love with Fen in the Wolf Rampant Series. I hated when she had to leave her pack and am excited to read about her conflict filled life that always gets her
stuck in deadly situation. This kind of conflict early on always has a way of making me settle down with a book, hold my breath, and read on to find out what happens next. Fen is flawed in all the right ways to keep you worried about her and strong and smart in all the ways that make you cheer her on, worry for her, and hope for the best in the end.
