I enjoyed the seaside setting of this book and the options that gave the author for venues for “adventure.” The community around the pancake house also made for good storylines.
Loved this little mystery and kept changing who the culprit was until the very last!
Well written and enjoyable.
It was an easy read and I really enjoyed the book.
I liked it; a lot!
The Crêpes of Wrath is heart-wrenching first book in a new series by Sarah Fox. Marley McKinney comes back to Wildwood Cove, a place she spent a lot of time at during her youth, to help out her cousin, Jimmy. He’s been hospitalized and requested her help running his restaurant, The Flip Side Pancake House. So, she learns the ropes and holds down the fort until Jimmy is released from the hospital. When that day comes, tragedy befalls the family as Jimmy is found dead. Shortly thereafter, Marley finds stolen items in Jimmy’s garage – items from a ring of thefts that have been plaguing the area.
Marley refuses to believe that Jimmy is part of the theft ring but his murder and then her finding the stolen items has cast a dark shadow on his name. She spends some of her down time trying to figure out why he was killed and why there were stolen goods on his property. This, in turn, puts her in the cross-hairs of the murderer.
While I enjoyed the the story in The Crêpes of Wrath I had a hard time with some of the technicalities. Marley has no problem taking evidence and in front of a relative of a police officer no less. She found blood on the front porch AFTER Jimmy’s body was found – why wasn’t that told to the police immediately?! I just shook my head at all of the blunders Marley committed. I know that cozy mystery heroines tend to be a bit flaky sometimes, but there are just some glaring issues in this book.
The novel was fast paced and flowed well. The character development and world building was done well. I felt like I knew the town and the people but the descriptions weren’t flowery or over exaggerated. The mystery itself was crafted well – our heroine was just kind of dumb in certain situations. I was engaged in the novel regardless of the things I didn’t like. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
I love this series, it’s set in the pacific North West, the characters are very well developed and very likable. I’ve read all of books in this series and I’ve not been disappointed.
I love the setting. The chatacters were pretty stock cozy characters.
An easy read!
