The Porter Brother’s were raised to live and die by Three Rules
One, a Porter stands his ground
Two, a Porter leaves no enemy standing
Three…
Sutton Creech was a cheat and a liar. Tate Porter had found that out when he was eighteen, and he had no intention of letting her make a fool out of him again. He didn’t care how much pain he saw in her eyes or how old memories tugged at his … old memories tugged at his unforgiving heart until, the night a hidden secret is revealed and everything Tate had believed about their past is shattered, proving he had let the woman he loved get away.
Between trying to protect his family and running their pot growing business, Tate doesn’t have time to play the “Nice Guy”. He’d just have to remember the most important rule his father had given them: A Porter always keeps what’s his.

Jamie Begley has brought us back to the little town of Treepoint that we love by giving us the first of three Porter brother stories. The eldest, Tate, is about to come face to face with the past he’s tried time and again to forget, but can never quite let go of.
Summary:
Tate Porter doesn’t trust many people. In the last few years, his circle has expanded to a few, but mostly he only trusts his family. He learned early not to hand his trust out blindly, and sure as hell not to a woman. Only one woman has ever made a fool of him, and he’s not about to let it happen again. Luckily for him, he won’t have a choice when danger comes knocking and said woman lands back in his sights. It’s been a long time and lot’s of painful memories since Sutton Creech has been home, but she couldn’t ignore the call to her hometown of Treepoint any longer. At the young, naive age of seventeen, she ran from Tate and and her controlling parents, only to find a monster. Now she’s home, ready to right some wrongs from the past, and move on surviving one day at a time. Neither Tate norr Sutton plan on getting involved in any way with the other. But circumstances present where they are forced into close proximity. Both Tate and Sutton are surprised at the swift chemistry and overwhelming tension that still exists between them. Pride can be an insurmountable obstacle, just as hurt can linger long past it’s inception. Everything’s coming up from the past, and they are forced to face a few home truths. After what she’s been through, Sutton isn’t eager to open herself up or feel anything, especially after the first time around with Tate. Fortunately, Tate has realized the mistakes they’ve made and he’s determined to show Sutton the most important rule a Porter lives by: A Porter always keeps what’s his.
I have come to enjoy Jamie’s books quite a bit since reading Razer’s Ride, and Keeping What’s His was no different. Sutton was an enigma at the beginning. I didn’t quite know how to feel about her, but she soon proved to be the type of heroine I like to read. She had such a tragic history, I found myself needing a break a one point so I could cry my eyes out and then pull myself back together. She was so strong. She may have fallen down a time or two, but in the end she was standing and moving forward. Lord knows, I don’t think I’d be able to after experiencing what she did. Despite Sutton having led a privileged childhood, and seemed to be doing well for herself now, I didn’t catch even a hint of snob from her at all. She identified herself with the hillbillies and I’m sure that’s what I loved most about her. She did irritate me when it was revealed that she actually came back to Treepoint but never confronted Tate. She was mad at him for his reaction to her actions, but she never stopped to give him a chance. Tate was a surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect after seeing him clash with The Last Riders so many times before. I liked him, though. I loved his arrogance, and confident bearing, but mostly his devotion to keeping his family safe. It was sweet and showed just how far he’d go for those he loved. The fact that he took responsibility for his younger siblings at such a young age himself, only adds to the appeal. It aggravated me that he was too proud to show Sutton just how much he hurt, but he’s a man, so what can you expect? Still, it could have changed so much. I loved Tate and Sutton together. They were opposites in a lot of ways, but perfect for each other. Their scenes were hot and the sincerity of their feelings for each other touched my heart. They both suffered during the eighteen years they were apart, but in the end they found each other again, and could move forward to happy. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the book. The plot line was believable and somewhat of a mystery/murder. I think the Porters are a crazy clan, but loving and loyal, too. Greer is a bit selfish, but I think the right woman could turn him around (please be Holly). I’m looking forward to getting Dustin’s story. I’m curious who will win his heart after the whole Samantha debacle. It was also fantastic to see a bit of The Last Riders, and really want more of them (Train and Killyama to be more exact, lol). I love the entertainment, action, aura of badass, and sense of family I get from this group of characters, so I will definitely be reading more in the future. <3
I love Tate and Sutton’s relationship once she finally forgives him we realise there has been a few times when Sutton came back for Tate and then Tate went back for Sutton but they didn’t get each other and honestly how much they both had missed each other slightly. I love my babies together they are so cute and I love the chemistry between them.

What a great start to a new series! I really enjoyed Tate & Sutton’s second chance romance story!! It was emotional, it was funny, it made my heart smile & it made my heart break. It just felt so real & so right for them to reconnect & get that second chance at first love.
I LOVED the fact that Tate & Sutton were such an evenly matched couple. Usually in this genre, one of the main characters (generally, the guy) pulls more than their fair share of jerkface moves, making it easy to blame them for the relationship going sour. In this case, you can’t really play the blame game. They both had what I thought were valid reasons for doing the things they did (or didn’t do) & they both hurt as a result of them.
“They were old friends and sweethearts. They couldn’t get back what they had shared when they were younger. However, it was time for them to see if the adults they had become could make something more.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Tate… I LOVED getting into his head! He has been through so much; the loss of his parents & the guilt he felt after their death, having to be responsible for so much at a young age, the loss of his first & only love, the stress of having such a dangerous “job”… Not to mention someone trying to frame him for MURDER! He has an adorably rugged romantic side to him and it was sweet to see him show it with Sutton. Don’t worry, he’s not syrupy sweet, he’s protective & take charge too and it’s HOT!
Sutton aka Tate’s Sassy Pants… I hated the ultimatum that was given to her by her parents and truly wished there was a way she could’ve worked around it. I understand why she did what she did (because it was all for Tate & his family) but it killed me to see the hurt in Tate’s eyes when it happened. My heart ached so badly when we learned of what happened to her in her time away from Treepoint. The losses she suffered… No one should have to go through something like that and the fact that she was all alone when it happened left my stomach all twisted up in knots. It was kinda crazy to learn that she kept in touch with Treepoint while she was away. Contacting Diamond, secretly attending Cash & Rachel’s wedding, reading Treepoint’s local paper daily… Sutton never stopped caring for Tate and it showed through those actions. But… I wasn’t a fan of her claiming he didn’t fight for her. She left him & shouldn’t have automatically expected him to chase after her, especially given the circumstances.
Greer… I wanted to kick him in the nuts multiple times. Diane, really? WTF is he still doing with her? He did provide us with one of the best moments though- Rachel turning a paintball gun on him. It. Was. Awesome. And when Holly got in on the action? Priceless. I’m very curious to see if he & Holly get together down the line. Her true feelings broke through twice for him in this book & my heart is already breaking for her.
Dustin… We already knew the title of his book, Claiming His Enemy, and now it’s starting to make sense. We found out who the Porters #1 enemy is and they just so happen to have a daughter… Seems like a likely candidate for his woman, doesn’t it? But shoot… there goes my hope that Willa would play matchmaker between him & Ginny! And one more thing… What the heck was he doing going out on a date with Kaley?! How is she not in prison for the part she played in Razer, Beth & Lily’s kidnapping/abuse in Shade?
The action/bad guy part of the story was probably the weakest part for me (because it was kinda unbelievable) but I appreciated the fact that it was spread throughout the book instead of lasting only a couple of pages.
Other tasty tidbits-
*Cash & Rachel… EXTRA special news where my favorite couple is concerned! Thank you to pieces for this Jamie Begley!! #DreamsReallyDoComeTrue
*Jo… Looks like she’ll play a bigger role in her family business. Here’s hoping we get some more of her feisty attitude! #WatchYourBackCurtDawkins
*Lisa West (the foster parent in Lucky’s Choice) makes an appearance… #SecretsNeverStayHiddenWhenShadesAround
Looking forward to the next book in this trilogy but really… just looking forward to the next Jamie Begley book! Period. Hopefully, it’s Penni & Jackal’s!!
I have never been a Porter fan but this book has changed my mind.
Loved this book so much I breezed through it in a couple of hours.
They have a great family dynamic they maybe criminals but they have each other backs.
Cash was featured a lot which I love, he’s my second favourite after Shade.
Seriously how many times did Tate had to be told that Sutton didn’t cheat on him the circumstances were horrible but at least they find their way to each other in the end.
Loved it now I’m a fan of The Porters.
One gripe not enough Shade.
Where’s my Dom Dom???
