Avery Sparks is a master at controlling chaos—and she gets plenty of opportunities as fire chief and head of emergency management in her hometown of Chance, Nebraska. The only thing she can’t seem to control are her feelings when she’s around Jake Mitchell, the man who was her first everything the night of their high school graduation. But Jake was so quick to leave Chance—and Avery—behind that … Avery—behind that she swore she’d move on.
While Avery’s job is to minimize drama, Jake embraces the chaos of an emergency. After enlisting in the Army National Guard, Jake became a nationally recognized leader in disaster recovery. Yet a life on the road has left him restless. So when a class-four tornado wreaks havoc on Chance, he’s eager to return home—and to the woman never far from his mind.
Now, Avery and Jake must team up to help their hometown weather a siege of violent storms. But it’s clear to them both that nature isn’t the only force they’ll have to reckon with. Will Avery and Jake’s whirlwind love affair be an all-new disaster—or can they recover from their stormy past to build a future together?

First I have to say that while I loved this book, I’m not a fan of the cover. After reading the story, the two people on the cover look nothing like how I picture Avery and Jake in my head.
Now that’s out of the way, let’s get to the story itself. Its been a few years since I’ve read a book by this author, but I’m glad I picked up Twisted Up. Jake and Avery were both really likable. It was kind of a friends to lovers type of story, but with a little bit of a twist…and I’m not talking about the tornado that makes an appearance.
I tend to like books that have a very logical progression to them and this was exactly that type of book. The romance between these two happened naturally. It wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t without its road bumps. They both had their own obstacles to overcome. The ending was sweet and really quite perfect for them. I couldn’t wait to see them get their HEA.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sexy small town love story.
I absolutely LOVED this one! Avery is fire chief in small town Chance and while setting up for the high school reunion everyone is whispering to her about Jake coming back to town when there he is and she sets fire to the table cloth. Of course! When they go to get more streamers they are locked in the shed and a kiss and more later a F-4 tornado hits. What a way to start the book! This is a wonderful second chance romance and more. It goes back to first love and forgiveness and learning to trust again. I cannot say again how much I enjoyed this one and recommend it.
I can not say enough good things about this book. I loved the characters . I love that there was high powered females in this book. Not only with Avery but with Kit and Bree also. It was a great and inspirational story and I felt every bit of it.

A good story. There’s some feel good parts. And the ending was great. Enjoyed the readers performance. Overall a good book.
As fire chief and head of emergency management, Avery Sparks has become the master at handling anything that borders on chaotic… except her love life. Years ago on graduation night she indulged in a little one night hook-up with her friend Jake Mitchell, then he left without looking back. Avery on the other hand stayed behind, and has created a good life for herself, one she has no plans of changing, she has everything she could possibly want in Chance, Nebraska… well except maybe love. But the minute Jake returns home for their high school reunion, the sparks between them start to fly, and mother nature isn’t about to let these two off so easy this time!
Jake Mitchell loves what he does, being a leader in natural disaster recovery give him the opportunity to help people and gives him a sense of purpose like nothing else ever could. He likes that it allows him to travel, never really putting down roots anywhere, which totally feeds into his restless spirit. He doesn’t really do relationships, or love, mainly because he gave his heart away a long time ago, then made the mistake of walking away. Now for the first time in his life he is going to have to face that mistake when he returns home for his high school reunion, and what he finds waiting there for him, has him wanting things he thought he would… to stay!
This read was unlike anything I have read, I have to say it was quite refreshing to step out of my comfort zone and read something a little different for a change. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two their disastrous little adventure proved to be very entertaining, and gave me a serious case of the feels!! This was my first book from this author and I have to say it left a pretty good first impression. I highly recommend you give this one a try it is sure to tap into your emotions and leave you with a happy heart!!

*Reread this book a second time and I still love it. My previous review still stands. What a wonderful, feel good, fun and sexy story. A must read for anyone in the mood for a few smiles and tears. Edited 08/14/17*
Aww what a wonderful story! This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I am so happy that I have found a new author to add to my must read list. Erin Nicholas has written a story filled with such great characters and so much emotion that you might need some tissue reading Jake and Avery’s story. Jake, with his hero complex, and Avery, with her abandonment issues, makes for some funny moments and some very heart warming times as well. And let’s not forget about the naughty and sexy moments either. The chemistry between Avery and Jake were scorching hot and I enjoyed every single moment of their love story. I also loved the small town life portrayed in this story. How everyone is always helping out and coming together to overcome disasters and make their town a better place to live. I loved that! I can’t wait to read more!
My first book by Erin and this was the book that made me fall in love with the romance she wrote about and steaminess she described about her characters relationships.
This was an amazing book to another amazing series by Erin Nicholas. I can’t wait for book 2. I loved the Sapphire Falls series, and this series is just as amazing. If you haven’t read anything by Erin Nicholas I strongly suggest that you do.
What a great start to a new series! Twisted Up is set in tornado country in Chance, Nebraska. Chance is a town that seems to always get hit & sustain damage from tornados. This book was emotionally charged & intense from the very beginning. Jake is a natural disaster recovery specialist sent to review town procedures & see if they would work in other locations. Avery is the fire captain responsible for a lot of those procedures & the girl Jake let down in high school. The chemistry is still there & intense between them but Avery is determined not to give in to it. There’s history there that Jake just can’t understand & something is wrong in the town but he can’t put his finger on what it is. Jake & Avery have bickering & avoidance down to a science but can they deal with being in close contact? There are several things that are going on with the supporting characters that add to the intensity. The readers emotions are engaged from the start & the plot doesn’t let you go until the very end. Erin Nicholas has brought her descriptive narrative style to create another intense series. This book has it all – scenes that make you ache, cry, laugh & think. I can’t wait for the next book!
