Matt Barns is on a mission. The goal of this mission? Find a mate before his broken bear drives him into madness. He knows exactly what he’s looking for, but when his bear finally settles for a mate, she dumps his world upside down. She’s funny, sure, but other than that, she’s not his type in any way. Or so he thought, because Willa is breaking down his walls and opening his eyes to a new life … life he thought he might never find.
Willamena Madden: smart-mouthed, fun-loving, loyal-to-a-fault, proud nerd and fragile human. She’s also somehow become the potential mate to a grizzly shifter. A shifter? She feels sorry for the critters and wishes humans would leave them alone, but Matt is proving he doesn’t need her pity. He’s a sexy, scarred up, growly beast-man, and she’s thinking he could be the one to finally take her V-card. But Matt’s hot and cold, and one of her friends is after a bucket-list werebear diddle with the man Willa’s falling for. And if that isn’t stressful enough, Matt’s Gray Back Crew is a loosely knit community of maniacs.
Matt feels important, but Willa has never been in more danger. If she can’t find a way to survive his people, she’ll have to go back to her safe life without her Gray Back Bad Bear.

This was the first book I ever read my T.S. Joyce and I’m so glad that I took a chance. I loved this book. It was entertaining and enjoyable although the stuff that was on Matt’s Facebook page made me go eww. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Willa was a wonderful nerd and not afraid to tell people how it is. Matt was a werebear (bear shifter) on the hunt for a mate, but also a manho while he was looking. When Willa and Matt meet their banter cracks me up. The friendzone was great. I loved how Matt helped Willa to have a great vacation by telling her places to visit. Their romance wasn’t what I’d call traditional, but it seemed like a lot of fun. There were a lot of feels with this story. I loved the way the story ended. I recommend reading this book.
This was an interesting take on shifters.
Matt is a bear shifter who is part of a crew of broken bears. They formed their own crew because they couldn’t fit in with others. All Matt wants to do is find his mate but yet in the meantime, he is just having fun with the ladies. That’s until me meets Willa.
Willa is a little out there where she doesn’t fit in with her friends. She even wonders why they are still friends. She is a little sassy, and mean in the beginning but she is just hurt.
The part that I found interesting in this book that is different then most shifter books was that for about half of the book, Matt wants to hang out with Willa but nothing is mentioned about mates or this uncontrollable urge to mate with her. You almost wonder if its there. Not saying this is a bad thing, just a different take.
Her first Bear shifter book and all the rest…. I read it all day and night until I was done. My first Shifter experience, written the way I am and speak (well, ok I don’t curse as much as the boys do) and think, and some of the dumb things I do too! I bet I read the whole thing with my mouth hanging open! And the addiction was born! Thanks for being a generous author and putting your books on KU so many readers can afford to read and buy your books!
This was the first book I read in the Damon’s Mountains series. Even though there were books that came before it I wasn’t lost. But it made me go back and read all of them. Great series!
This was an awesome book. Bad Ass Girl bear. Can’t wait for the next one.
I know I should have started at the beginning of TS Joyce’s amazing shifters series… but I found this one by accident, bought it, ripped through it like the pages were on fire, and then went straight for the next book. It was fabulous! The werebears, the ladies, freaking Nards! I loved this book! — Alice Bello is the author of The Ferro Mountains shifters series, Min’s Vampire and the Lucy Hart, DeathDealer Novels.
