#1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr brings together a poignant novel with a rich tapestry of characters. A moving story that will leave the reader laughing and crying, as two friends confront their pasts and move towards their futures. In the aftermath of her financier husband’s suicide, Emma Shay Compton’s dream life is shattered. Richard Compton stole his clients’ life savings to … life savings to fund a lavish life in New York City and, although she was never involved in the business, Emma bears the burden of her husband’s crimes. She is left with nothing. Only one friend stands by her, a friend she’s known since high school, who encourages her to come home to Sonoma County. But starting over isn’t easy, and Sonoma is full of unhappy memories, too. And people she’d rather not face, especially Riley Kerrigan. Riley and Emma were like sisters–until Riley betrayed Emma, ending their friendship. Emma left town, planning to never look back. Now, trying to stand on her own two feet, Emma can’t escape her husband’s reputation and is forced to turn to the last person she thought she’d ever ask for help–her former best friend. It’s an uneasy reunion as both women face the mistakes they’ve made over the years. Only if they find a way to forgive each other–and themselves–can each of them find the life she wants.

Trust, lies, love, deceit and moving forward in life!
This book is about friends and family. Riley Kerrigan’s family didn’t have much but what they did have was priceless. You knew you were loved. Emma Shay’s family was shattered when her mom died. Nothing was the same. Yet because of school these two girls became best friends. Betrayal split them apart. Now Emma has come home. She is battered and bruised and just trying to put her life back together. Will the forces that brought her low, allow her to pick herself up and move on? What role will the Kerrigan’s play? Mother June, son Adam and Riley. What of her step-mother and step-sisters? It is about two friends who have learned to fight for what they want. Loved the ending!
Nice love story. I really enjoyed the characters. A terrible marriage and a scandal bring Emma back to her hometown to start over. After some bumps in the road, she is able to find love and a job. Things have a way of working out for everyone which is the way it should be!
“The Life She Wants” is a feel-good women’s fiction novel. The story is complex, although in some ways predictable, but reading it is like having a cozy tea with a long-lost friend on a Sunday afternoon. If you like Robin Carr, this is a fine addition to your library.
Awesome!!!!
In the first place I Love Robyn Carr! I have every book she has ever written and she NEVER Disappoints. I was privileged to meet her at our local Library Gala and my daughter and I both told her to write more books about the Virgin River series. She has such a way with the rhythm of the words she writes , it sucks you right in, and before you know it , the book is finished.
This book is essentially a romance story, or rather a couple intertwined romance stories. It was fine but I am not a romance reader, not as a basis for the story and it did not have enough beyond that for me. I was skimming ahead and still keeping up with the story. Just not my thing…
I always enjoy Robin Carr’s book. This one doesn’t disappoint.
When Emma Shay Compton’s life is turned upside down after her husband’s arrest, trial, and eventual suicide, she returns to her hometown broke, both financially and emotionally. Starting over, she finds that her life is still in the trial limelight, making it more difficult than she thought because some people feel Emma is just as much to blame. Emma’s former best friend, Riley, is now a successful business owner. When Emma goes to Riley for a job, Riley ensures Emma that she will be her boss, but they were no longer friends. Riley’s brother, Adam, is more than happy to help Emma, along with her other best friend, to ensure Emma feels welcome back to town. A well-written story is about family, friends, forgiveness of themselves and each other, reunions, and love.
